No, I haven’t taken up sewing. (Not yet anyway.) These adorable little buttons are all candy.
And, umm… they are like handmade.
Not by me, but remember my crazy talented, cupcake fanatic friend, Julie?
She made them for a friend’s baby shower using a fab tutorial from Bake it Pretty.
They are just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
The tutorial even includes a pdf for the labels so you can print them out at home and make your own packaging.
Julie made yellow, pink, green, orange and blue buttons with colored candy melts.
Just melt the candy and pour into a button mold. Let them dry and pop them right out.
Place them in small plastic bags and attach the labels. Just fold them in half and staple them together.
Or, if you’re crazy like Julie, then you make the labels work with your own wooden custom candy button display that your awesomely talented husband built for you.
Yeah, I’m sucking up in case he reads this and wants to make one for me, too.
So, instead of folding the labels in half, you can fold them in thirds. Two-thirds in front and one-third in the back so you have enough room to use a hole punch on the labels without messing up the graphics. And then just use a little double-sided tape to attach the labels to the bags.
Easy and like I said… cute as a button.
Julie also made these onesie sugar cookies for the shower. I’m gonna work on her to get this recipe because they were really good.

I enjoy baking any type of treats. If they happen to end up looking pretty that is just a little extra treat for everyone. I try but things don’t always turn out as cute as I would like. (Those are the ones that my family get to eat..so it all works out!)
I’m still practicing making things look pretty…but baking is just “it” for me. It relaxes, refreshes & energizes me all at the same time. Couldn’t live without it!

I think just a few months ago I would have said making them pretty, because that was BEFORE I’d been successful at making treats without the help of a box or premade mix. I think making them pretty, now. My mom took cake decorating classes over 30 years ago, and now I’m working on my icing skills to follow the tradition.

Hello Bakerella! well it is very hard to decide but, I do like more to make it pretty… and you of cousre along with alot of other talented ladys out there , are a big inspiration.
I love making them look pretty the most, but of course you have to go through the fun of baking them first before you can make them that way!
The whole reason I started baking was because I loved to make beautiful things. I like the ability to make something pretty out of scraps. It just helps that most of these things are chocolaty, sugary, and otherwise yummy! =]

I feel so busy all the time that I barely have time to bake sweets, but I would LOVE to make them pretty. As it is, I consider it an accomplishment if there aren’t big chunks of cake in the frosting for my cakes, and my cookies are reasonably close in size. With the proper inspiration, though… :)

Depends on how quickly I think it will be eaten up. If it’s going to sit on the table for a bit I will make it pretty, otherwise I don’t worry about it too much.

The most I have to make anything pretty is stencils and I’ve only used powdered sugar with the Happy Birthday stencil on one cake. So I would have to say baking b/c obviously I’m not very good (yet) at making anything pretty. *smile.

A question about the buttons. How big are the molds? I host a gingerbread man decorating party every year, and these would be a WONDERFUL addition to our decoration selection, if they’re small enough. My full-size gingerbread man cutter is about 6 inches tall.

I always try to find treats to bake that are impressive to look at… I browse my credible sources for recipes, so I’m usually pretty sure they’ll taste great, too! Of course.. if I happen to be decorating and it’s not going so well, I always fall back on “it doesn’t matter what they look like as long as they taste good!” :D

Making them pretty hands down. I always spend countless hours online for the perfect inspiration. Then there is the buying of all the goodies I need. And of course the actual process of creating it, which also includes the frustrations of when things don’t go right, etc. But it’s worth it!
