Dining Out Dessert

Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce

Here’s a little something I think you guys will like. It’s a Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce. I don’t know what made me think about this dessert, because I’ve only had it once. It was several years ago… maybe even eight. I was eating out at Applebee’s with my family and we decided to get dessert. Now, I eat out kind of often, but desserts are usually saved for celebrations. Birthdays and such. And, when I do get one, it’s usually the most chocolate thing on the menu and it never contains nuts. But on that day, it wasn’t my celebration. It was my uncle’s and I agreed to split this non-chocolate, nut-filled dessert – the whole while thinking about how much better the chocolate would be. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. This might have even been the best thing I had ever tasted. (up until that point, anyway.)

So, if you’ve never been to Applebee’s and you’ve never tasted the Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce, that’s okay. Because, you’re in luck. I found a recipe from The Secret Recipe Blog that’s as close to the original as I remember it.

I promise you’ll like it.

Here’s the recipe.

Here are the ingredients for the blondies.

Blondie Ingredients

Mix it all up…

Blondie Batter

And, spread it all out in a greased and floured 8 or 9 inch square pan. (I used the 8 inch)

When the blondies are almost done, mix up your maple butter sauce. Here’s what you’ll need.

Maple Butter Sauce Ingredients

When the brownies are done, cool for a few minutes. Cut and serve while they are still warm.

Walnut Blondies

Put one, or two, or six on a plate. Pile on some vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the warm maple butter sauce over everything. Top with any extra walnuts.

Maple Butter Sauce

OMG!!!!!

Now, if you don’t have any ice cream in the house, don’t let that stop you from making this.

Actually, if one were to make just the blondies and the maple butter sauce, one might even want to cut up small pieces of the blondie and use the maple butter sauce as a dip. One might even end up dunking the whole thing in the sauce and getting maple butter all over their fingers that they then had to force themselves to lick off. However, I don’t know anyone like that.

Again, here’s the recipe.

And, now for a giveaway…

Dish on your favorite dining out dessert.
Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, Chili’s molten chocolate cake,
McDonald’s fried pies (hey, anything goes)

  • Leave a comment on this post with your favorite dining out dessert and you could win a $50 American Express gift card. Use it for dinner, dessert or whatever.
  • Make sure to leave a way for me to contact you if you win.
  • Deadline to enter is Tuesday, March 3rd at midnight.
  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening on this post.

Good Luck!

And, check back later this week. I have some really fun news to announce. It’s pretty exciting!

Time’s up! I’m starting to think this giveaway was a bad idea because now I have a craving for all kinds of desserts. I need to find a BJs, a Claim Jumpers and a Cheddars near me. And, I’m definitely going to have to try the banana spring rolls from P.F. Changs. Actually, I think I’ll do a dessert tasting there because they received a lot of shout outs. And, next time I go to the Cheesecake Factory, I’ll twist my arm and try the Carrot Cake. Thanks for all the great suggestions…I think.
Okay, let’s see who’s going to buy me dinner. JJ. The winner from the 1,732 super-delicious comments is jori-o! YAY jori-o!

Congrats and I hope you do something fun with the $50.

Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion (Newport Beach, CA) has the BEST Chocolate Souffle. You have to make sure you order it at the beginning of the meal. They serve it with a Whipped Cream (we have to get it with Vanilla Bean ice cream because my husband is allergic to alcohol and the cream has some sort of liquor in it). It is AMAZING!

My most memorable dessert was at a little restaurant here in Phoenix called “Convivo’s”. My sister had a surprise 40th party there for me a few years ago, and was friends with the Chef. Special for me he made a rustic apple tart with the most fabulous flaky pate brise, with homemade caramel sauce drizzled on top, which was then sprinkled with Gorgonzola cheese. It was an absolutely to die for combination that I have never forgotten. I am craving it SO badly now! ednascafe at gmail dot com

You are so right about AppleBee’s Blondies. They have been a fave of mine and my husbands for a long long time.
As far as my favorite Dine Out Dessert goes…that is a tough one. It would be a toss up between the caramel pie at O’Charley’s and the Tiramisu at Olive Garden. Those are my two faves that I can think of right now.

My favorite dessert is unfortunately an extinct one (as far as I know that is). When I was young, my family would eat out at a place called Georgio’s in Hutchinson, Kansas. They had the best Italian Cream cake (I think this was the name). It was some sort of white cake with walnuts and an absolutely fabulous frosting. I’ve never found anything like it again, but everytime we went there, we’d ask to see the desserts all the while knowing I’d pick the Italian cake. I’m 22 now, and I think I might have been 10 the last time I had it…sigh…

The best dessert I’ve ever paid for is the Pizza Cookie at a Phoenix restaurant called Oregano’s.

It’s so good that it’s the ONLY dessert on the menu at all 8 locations!

Here’s how it’s described on the menu: “A 1/2 pound of Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, or Peanut Butter Chocolate cookie dough, slightly baked in a 6-inch pizza pan then topped with 3 scoops of vanilla bean ice cream.”

And that’s exactly it. Heated just enough so that it no longer tastes raw, but still gooey enough to slip right off your spoon! I’m salivating just thinking about it!

I’ve had desserts like it in Seattle, Dallas and Los Angeles, and none of them were even NEARLY as good!

And man, do I love contests!

This is pretty unoriginal, but I love the chocolate molten cake from Chili’s! MMM, I could go for some of that now. :)

If we get dessert at a restaurant the one I crave is the one just gave us the recipe for… LOVE that maple butter… if I am just grabbing a quick dessert I love Loard’s lemon chiffon ice cream, creamy, not too tart… seriously to die for, and if it is served with my grandma-in-laws homemade madelaines then all the better.

My all time favorite dine-out dessert is Sidney’s Sinful Sundae from Outback Steakhouse. This thing is by far the most delectable slice of heaven I’ve ever had while dining out. Depending on how much of a regular you are at a certain store, they’ll pile on a few extra strawberries. Ice cream, toasted coconut, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and fresh strawberry(ies)…you just can’t beat that in the hot Arizona summers.
