Dining Out Dessert

Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce

Here’s a little something I think you guys will like. It’s a Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce. I don’t know what made me think about this dessert, because I’ve only had it once. It was several years ago… maybe even eight. I was eating out at Applebee’s with my family and we decided to get dessert. Now, I eat out kind of often, but desserts are usually saved for celebrations. Birthdays and such. And, when I do get one, it’s usually the most chocolate thing on the menu and it never contains nuts. But on that day, it wasn’t my celebration. It was my uncle’s and I agreed to split this non-chocolate, nut-filled dessert – the whole while thinking about how much better the chocolate would be. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. This might have even been the best thing I had ever tasted. (up until that point, anyway.)

So, if you’ve never been to Applebee’s and you’ve never tasted the Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce, that’s okay. Because, you’re in luck. I found a recipe from The Secret Recipe Blog that’s as close to the original as I remember it.

I promise you’ll like it.

Here’s the recipe.

Here are the ingredients for the blondies.

Blondie Ingredients

Mix it all up…

Blondie Batter

And, spread it all out in a greased and floured 8 or 9 inch square pan. (I used the 8 inch)

When the blondies are almost done, mix up your maple butter sauce. Here’s what you’ll need.

Maple Butter Sauce Ingredients

When the brownies are done, cool for a few minutes. Cut and serve while they are still warm.

Walnut Blondies

Put one, or two, or six on a plate. Pile on some vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the warm maple butter sauce over everything. Top with any extra walnuts.

Maple Butter Sauce

OMG!!!!!

Now, if you don’t have any ice cream in the house, don’t let that stop you from making this.

Actually, if one were to make just the blondies and the maple butter sauce, one might even want to cut up small pieces of the blondie and use the maple butter sauce as a dip. One might even end up dunking the whole thing in the sauce and getting maple butter all over their fingers that they then had to force themselves to lick off. However, I don’t know anyone like that.

Again, here’s the recipe.

And, now for a giveaway…

Dish on your favorite dining out dessert.
Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, Chili’s molten chocolate cake,
McDonald’s fried pies (hey, anything goes)

  • Leave a comment on this post with your favorite dining out dessert and you could win a $50 American Express gift card. Use it for dinner, dessert or whatever.
  • Make sure to leave a way for me to contact you if you win.
  • Deadline to enter is Tuesday, March 3rd at midnight.
  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening on this post.

Good Luck!

And, check back later this week. I have some really fun news to announce. It’s pretty exciting!

Time’s up! I’m starting to think this giveaway was a bad idea because now I have a craving for all kinds of desserts. I need to find a BJs, a Claim Jumpers and a Cheddars near me. And, I’m definitely going to have to try the banana spring rolls from P.F. Changs. Actually, I think I’ll do a dessert tasting there because they received a lot of shout outs. And, next time I go to the Cheesecake Factory, I’ll twist my arm and try the Carrot Cake. Thanks for all the great suggestions…I think.
Okay, let’s see who’s going to buy me dinner. JJ. The winner from the 1,732 super-delicious comments is jori-o! YAY jori-o!

Congrats and I hope you do something fun with the $50.

I have to give it up for a local dig- if you’re ever Raleigh, NC (or Myrtle Beach, SC- there’s one there too) you absolutely HAVE to come to Goodberry’s Frozen Custard for a Carolina Concrete- chocolate, vanilla, or the flavor of the day, mix-ins, etc, and for fun, when they hand it to you, they first hold it completely upside down. Its been around for 20-some years and its THE BEST!!! no matter what flavor you get!

I even made a deal with my husband, who is a college student working at a restaurant near TCF, that if he makes a certain amount of money on a shift, that he’ll bring me a slice of that stuff home! Good thing the goal is pretty high so I don’t get it too often! :) So delicious… every bite!

Oh, man, dessert is my favourite part of dining in fancy restaurants. So decadent! I have so many favourites. The exquisite honey vanilla creme brulee from a funny little place called Neil’s that no longer exists (alas!). The amazing fresh raspberry tart I had recently at a very swish restaurant called Number 8. a delightful handmade lemon meringue pie from a local patisserie that comes with a whole raspberry secretly set into the centre of the lemon curd!

I love trying out new desserts (I’m more adventurous with them than with main course foods) and I especially like restaurants that offer a dessert tasting platter, so you don’t have to choose just one :D

That last photo, dripping butter maple dip, GOODNESS!
My favorite dessert was at Longhorn Steakhouse and was there for just a limited time. Everytime we go there, I tell them to bring it back–usually our servers have no idea what I’m even talking about–it was their version of a molten lava chocolate cake and there’s never before or since been one like it. My husband and I LOVE it!
