Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue
This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show…
and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.
I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.
Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.
And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.
The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.
On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!
We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.
We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.
It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.
If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.
We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.
I focused on dessert of course.
Lunch gave us all more time to talk.
Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.
And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.
Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.
And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.
On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.
See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.
This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.
But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.
I enjoyed this weekend so much.
Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.
Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.
I’m having an amazing giveaway today.
If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.
Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.
Want to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!
oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.
Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.
I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.
Okay, ready for the winner?
It’s comment #6224 – Leann
Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.
And big thanks to Kitchenaid for supplying the mixer in this beautiful blue.
What a fun event! I wished I was there! Thanks for sharing all these beautiful pictures with us. :) This is such a gorgeous giveaway!!! I would love to win this…it’ll probably shows up in my dreams tonight! LOL….If I could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of my life, it would be chocolate. Bitter-sweet or dark chocolate.

I choose Florida Banana Pie. It’s a slice of heaven that’s the perfect combination of sweet, salty, creamy, and crunchy. Billowy banana creme quivers atop a belt of peanut butter and powdered sugar while your fork pierces through the buttery and flaky crust below. The PB base simply melts into the crust and begs of you to ask the cook for the recipe..
This is NOT an easy question!!! But after much deliberation I have decided on my oatmeal dark chocolate chip and Craisin cookies! Soooo delicious…and I like to pretend they’re pretty good for you! :)
I hope to be the lucky winner, but if not I will still be happy because someone will get to jave it thanks.to youe wonderful
My all favorite is carrot cake witth cream cheese frosting…and now making them into cake pops is the best idea ever!!!!!
I just saw you on Lauren’s Latest before I came here! Looks like you guys had a ball! If I had to choose just one specific dessert, it would be white wedding cake.
Triple chocolate ice cream without a doubt.
Definitely spice cake with cream cheese frosting!
plain o dark choc ice cream! :)
(love choc and ice cream- this would be a good combi if i can only choose one)
Wow…this one is so easy. I have been reading your blog for years. I’ve made the cake pops, cupcakes and cakes in your great recipies. I even have your cake pop book and bought an extra to give away, but hands down your red velvet recipie is the best. I would eat red velvet cupcakes. I had gastric bypass 4 years ago and can only eat small amounts of sugar at a time, so that has made me extremely picky about what sweets I will eat. I have tried, no kidding, at least 10 different recipies (Martha’s included) and yours is the best. Its too funny though, that after reading your blog for so long, I noticed last December we had the same name!
One sweet or dessert, for the rest of my life?!
Raspberry cheesecake with a slivered almond-caramel-topping (like on German beesting cake). Because frozen raspberries are available year round, and they’d still work in this cake. Frozen strawberries are a mushy nightmare, so strawberry cheesecake is out of question :(
I would take a german cale we call it käsesahne torte ( cheese whip cream cake ) so yummy an on top a lot whip cream with strawberries on it =) that’s my favorite dessert
I hope to be the lucky winner, but if not I will still be happy because someone will get to have it thanks to your wonderful giveaway.
My all favorite is carrot cake with cream cheese frosting…and now making them into cake pops is the best idea ever!!!!!
Japanese zebra cheesecake. So light and delicious. A little time consuming to make but so worth it.
Pistachio Gelato. Goodness, I miss that stuff since I’ve had to go on a dairy-free diet!! I love how creamy and green it is!! :D
This mixer is so beautiful…
black forest cake!!
Since I haven’t yet discovered (after MANY years of trying) the perfect chocolate cake recipe, I think I’d have to go for apple pie with a slice of aged cheddar on the side. (Apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze!)
Thanks Bakerella… I’ve enjoyed your blog and book for a while now.
For me, it would be Tiramisu, mmmmm I could seriously live on nothing but Tiramisu and be happy( not so healthy probably, but my tastebuds would be perfectly happy! Lol)
The new blue IS amazing! I have been lusting for a kitchen aide mixer, and now seeing this color, even more so! Thanks for the chance to win one!!!
Jillain
I would have to pick chocolate chip cookies-there’s something comforting about the warm gooey melting chocolate that makes me feel like I’m 5 years old and the only worry on my mind is how much milk we have in the fridge.
Triple Salted Caramel Cupcakes! It’s all about the frosting :-)
I would definitely go with something with fresh fruit. Strawberry shortcake would do it.
Hmmm that’s a hard one? I would have to say New York cheesecake with strawberry toppings! Yum :)
What a great conference and opportunity! The food must have been unbelievable. If I could eat one dessert for the rest of my life it would probably be the lilikoi chiffon cake made here in Hawaii at a saimin (ramen noodle) stand. It’s homemade and is so light and tangy. The recipe hasn’t changed in over 60 years. I absolutely love it.
Hmmm, that is tough. My first thought is Coconut Cream Pie
That blue is such a gorgeous colour.
It was really hard for me to decide between really fudgy brownies, oatmeal choc chip cookies, and black forest cake, but the cake has it, I think. Chocolate and cherries is such a perfect combination, I would be very happy with being ‘stuck’ with it for the rest of my life (and hey, it’s got fruit in it so it’s totally healthy, yes?).
The halva cake in Bleecker Bakery in Jerusalem. I drool.
If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life… That is a toss up between double stuffed Oreos, peanut m&m’s or Creme brûlée. Hmmm I guess it would have to be the Creme brûlée. Yep that’s the one. With all it’s burnt sugary goodness on top of it.
If I had to pick JUST one it would have to be the very simple, very classic, very scrummy delight that is homemade flapjack!! Must dash now tho as now I’ve thought about ’em, I’ve hit to make ’em!!!
A beautiful Belgium Teacake with it’s delicious lemon curd filling – can’t beat it !
It would definitely be coffee ice cream. I love it plain, with chocolate sauce or a frappe!
Thanks for this giveaway! I saw the blue in your previous post and it caught my eye as well. Gorgeous!
I would have to say either chocolate chip cookies or a traditional cheesecake…although it’s a tough decision either way. Thankfully one we don’t actually have to make!
My aunt’s chocolate chunk cookies!
Delicious!
Tiramisu with ice cream! So good!
White chocolate raspberry cheesecake with chocolate crust…yummmm!!! My favorite!! :))
I definitely need a crystal blue kitchenaid mixer!
I would have to say Dark chocolate GELATO!!!!!!!!!! Every spoon i take makes me do a little happy dance!!! Its sooooo delicious!! I love it especially after dinner even on a stuffed tummy! If there was adark chocolate gelato filling cakepop, oh my! it would be heaven!
If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose?
I would choose cheesecake stuffed strawberries because they are very easy to make, it consists of one of my favorite fruits, and chocolate. Who doesn’t love chocolate? I could eat those for the rest of my life.
Butter Pecan Ice Cream :)
Gosh, this is really a hard choice! I’m going to have to go with chocolate chip cookies, because there are so many different ways once can make them and I don’t think I could ever get tired of them :)
Thanks for a chance to win!
I would have my mom’s sour cream cookies. Such fond memories of baking them at Christmas time and they are so good.
Creme Brulee- It’s a secret rule that if you go to a restaurant and Creme Brulee is on the menu, you have to order it, even if you’re counting calories!
A thin, chewy, chocolate chip cookie! Yummm! :)
I could eat the rest of my life my mom’s almond cake recipe <3. Just delicious and lovely like her!
Good luck everyone.
My favorite is carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
OMG! just one???? hmmmmm…. it will probably Vanilla Ice cream..coz i could put any fruit, cookies, or waffer that i want :)
thanks for giving me a chance to win that very beautiful kitchenaid artisan stand mixer that im dreaming of… and its blue!!! woooooot…wooooottt ;) love it…..
oo I’d be happy with lemon tarts..creamy, lemony zing..must bake NOW:)
I would pick brownies, but they must be chewy and have chocolate chunks in them. Icing is optional.
It’s very hard to choose! But I think I would love to eat for the rest of my life cheesecake with maracuja sauce. In my country, Romania, it’s not to easy to find maracuja. But I’m in love with it and I just die to eat it with a delicious cheesecake.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this wonderful Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer! I just love KitchenAid!
Cristina
It would have to be banana pudding. Just love it to death!
Oooh!! Okay, It would have to be a Brownie Affogato… brownie on the bottom, then a scoop of cappuccino gelato, home made whipped cream, caramel drizzle and a shot of hot espresso over the top!!! Ahhhh..I am now drooling over my key board!
I would choose my mother poundcake.. simple cake yet made with lots of love.. that what make the cake special..
Im residing in Singapore and I do not know if I qualify for this contest. But I’ll like to leave comment here too and if I’m chosen, I’ll be most grateful!
My favourites of all deserts is rich Choc macadamia nut brownies with a scoop of vanilla pod ice cream. Not just any brownie but gooey and chocolatey brownie on the inside and crisp on the outside. There are too many versions of brownie nowadays. Even a choc cake texture to some is classified as brownie? Where’s the standard? I need great standard brownies with real vanilla pod ice cream! It’ll be the last I want to eat!
I bake, I cook, I create things but I don’t have a blog! Seeing you food bloggers inspired me to finally start my own blog but I guess I have to purchase a camera first :)
Cookies. I can live without cakes and pies but defo need my cookies!
If I could only eat one type of dessert, I would have to say a Creme Brulee.
The basic variety just have everything you could ask for in a dessert: Flavor, the velvety texture of the creme and the texture contrast in the sugar.
One of the good things about a Creme Brulee is also that you can vary the flavors in any kind of way and be extremely creative about the contrast in flavors between the creme and the sugar :-)
If I could only eat one kind of cookie for the rest of my life it would have to be my mothers Kärleksmums. I don´t what they´re called in english but you can translate it like this, Loveyum. =)
They look like this and are delicious!
http://www.arla.se/default____17653.aspx?recipeid=22553
If I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life it would have to be my sugar cookies- the ones I make that have cream cheese and powdered sugar in the cookie dough – they are soft and super delicious!
Hawaii’s very popular candy bars, Good News! The chocolate, nuts, nougat and caramel is perfect goodness!
Do M&M’s count…?? Oh well, give a try. But it would have to be brownies…..Yep, I’d have to say Brownies….
If I could only eat one kind dessert for the rest of my life, it would be revel bars.yum!
My favorite is a white bakery cake with roses. I couldn’t wait for my birthday just because I knew I was getting one.
My pick for the one dessert that I’d gladly eat for the rest of my life would be yellow butter cake with my dad’s peanut butter/coffee/chocolate frosting. Oh, my. I may need to make one of these this week now that I mention it…
Brownie of course with walnuts, I love it with vanilla ice cream and cream…
definately white chocolate and bluberry cheesecake! xx
Wow. Had to think about that for a long time! But it would be creme brulee. Hands down! :-)
chocolate chip cookies. the new york times recipe. i could eat one (or two or three) everyday and never get tired of them.
If I could only choose one dessert….(thank goodness this is hypothetically speaking! ) I’d have to choose cheesecake. Plain cheesecake. Creamy plain cheesecake. Incredibly delicious plain cheese cake. Just talking about it now makes me want to get up and make one for the family…and it’s 3am!!!
Hey.. that’s a very unfair (and tough) question you are asking… What is YOUR answer? :P
Right now if you ask me, my answer would be Tiramisu dessert, the kind served in a cup that is ooey and gooey.. But then again, ask me tomorrow and the answer may be different!
If I could chose just a single desert it would have to be something that contains milk chocolate and peanut butter.
I also really like cream cheese so if there would be a way to add the cream cheese that would be excellent!
Thanks for the opportunity to win the mixer!
warm chocolate mud cake with choco ganache and double vanilla ice cream. Definitely!
I think the best dessert for the rest of my life would have to be Creme Brulee. It´s soooo good!
I think the KA would be perfect in mye kitchen :)
White chocolate raspberry cheesecake with a chocolate crust!! Yummmm!! :)) My favorite!!
I would pick the Hungarian Aranygaluska… nothing beats that. I would not mind eating them below those palm trees right now… sigh.
That’s a tough one, but I would have to say doughnuts, but I couldn’t tell you an exact flavor, Bavarian cream, nutty Pershing, lemon filled….
PW Best chocolate cake, filled with Tasty kitchen’s best frosting ( the one made with rue), and frosted with your Buttercream. It’s honestly the best cake evah!
I would eat Red Velvet cheesecake! It has just the right amount of red velvet cake and just enough cheecake to balance out every single dellicious bite!!
WOW. That has to be the prettiest darn mixer I have ever seen! I’d have to say my great grandma’s choc chip cookies! They are gobsmackingly good!
I would just say chocolate because really anything chocolate satisfies me completely. =) But if I had to be specific I’d say a chocolate chip walnut brownie with homemade vanilla bean ice cream and just a little fudge on top!
I would definitely have to go with chocolate covered gummy bears. They are my all time fav!
I would have to choose my Aunt Shirley’s Sugar Cookies with buttercream frosting. It’s been a secret family recipe for decades, and is held near and dear to my heart. I have yet to try a sugar cookie that is just as puffy, light, lightly sweet, and addicting! And, I love how it is the BEST cookie recipe for cookie cutter cookies!!
Pancakes topped with cookies and cream-ice cream from haagen dazs and strawberries for breakfast- because the best way to start a day is dessert :-)
As I’ve been studying abroad in Paris this semester, I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Suisse pasteries (it’s a similar dough to cinnamon buns, but they are long and filled with custard and chocolate chips).
If I could eat one dessert for the rest of my life it would be a chocolate lava cake sitting upon a vanilla sauce with strawberries on top.
I never thought I would ever, ever, pick a non chocolate dessert, but I just did!!! Sorry brownies, chocochip pies and molten lava cakes…
My one pick would be the lavender infused creme brûlée (unfortunately not available anymore:((( )
Definitely lemon cake with cream cheese frosting :). Oh & by the way – This mixer is the perfect color for my kitchen :)
That’s tough! If I could only have one dessert, I would have to choose a creamy TIRAMISU!
Without a doubt… CHEESECAKE.
just one week ago it was my birthday and my made vanilla cupcakes with white chocolate and on top a “speculaas” (it’s something Dutch. that’s something like gingerbread) buttercreme and melted chocolat on top.
it was heavenlicioussss, I could eat it everyday
Oh my… Really hard to imagine to limit myself when it comes to the sweet stuff but I’m a simple gal and will be happy to settle with peanutbutter cups f-o-r-e-v-e-r!!!
pancakes topped with haagen dazs’ cookies and cream ice cream and strawberries
Carmel Pecan Cheesecake, made with the help of this beautiful blue Kitchenaid!!!!
i would love chocolate brownie with CHOCOLATE LAVA and vanilla ice cream on top! <3
Petit gateau with vanilla ice cream ;)
creme brulee’!!!
A good chocolatey brownie…with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on the side!
I would have classic new York cheesecake, I’m a plain Jane type of girl when it comes to desserts. Hehe
cheesecake, plain cheesecake, it doesn’t even have to have a topping, I love it, I eat it very slow, small fork bite at a time, I LOVE cheesecake, PS: my best friend HATES cheesecake and yes, we’re still the best of friends, we agree to disagree :-)
I could honestly live the rest of my life on passionfruit and milk chocolate macarons alone. Maybe even marry them. Just maybe.
Wow, tought question; I love so many desserts, that it would be hard to choose one, but I think I would pick my homemade Rum Cake. hmmmm, makes me hungry just thinking about it…
I thought I knew what my answer would be, but then reading some of the other comments made me change my mind – about 100 times!! But I’ll stick with my original – red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing!
I would pick hot chocolate soufflé, still runny inside!
