Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Untitled-5

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

Enter for a chance to win this Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchenaid!

  • Just leave a comment on this post here on the website and answer the following question.
  • If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose? And not just cookie or cupcake, etc. – but what kind if you can? I’m very curious.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  1. OK, THIS is a tough question! Sheesh! I think I would have to pick Frozen Yogurt (with topping of course). It’s a lighter dessert and then with the toppings I can make it as sinful, or as healthy as I want. :)

  2. Oh wow. I’d probably have to go with cheesecake. Plain, creamy, homemade cheesecake. No fancy toppings or anything either.

  3. If i could eat one kind of dessert every day it would be my yummy vegan muffins they change up each time I make them depending on what fruit I have around. We really love banana!!!!

  4. Mint choocolate chip ice cream With a little drizzle of chocolate syrup to top it off.

  5. I would eat a white cake with buttercream icing every day! So simple and delish! I love love love that color of KA. I would redo my whole kitchen to match it!!!

  6. I would love to eat strawberry shortcake or the reeses cake from your blog, or mint chocolate cookie ice cream or well you get the picturre, I love sweets!
    ~Teddie

  7. One dessert for the rest of my life? Hmmm….given that I am known for my cakes and cupcakes, I think that’s what most people would expect me to say. But give me a nice warm, chewy chocolate chip cookie and a tall glass of milk and I’m good!!

  8. I would have to say Dufflet’s triple chocolate mousse cake:) YUMMY!!! ? the Crystal Blue Kitchenaid mixer!!!

  9. Classic vanilla bean creme brûlée! I could eat it three meals a day! Yum.

  10. Plain old strawberries!! Yeah, I am a nut. Don’t get me wrong, I love my sweets but I really could pass on most of them. Put some chips or bread in front of me and that would be a different story!

  11. The one dessert I would eat for the rest of my life would be the Chinese Wedding cake that my mom and myself make! A sponge type cake with a pineapple filling and real whipped cream on the top and sides. It’s so light that I could eat it for my three meals a day and my dessert!! Thank you for the chance to win this amazing color mixer!! :)

  12. I debated this one for a bit. In the end I have to go with cheesecake!

  13. The desert that I would pick to eat for the rest of my life would be Emirile Lagasse’s Tiramisu. I had to think hard because to narrow it down to one desert eliminates homemade chocolate chip cookies which I love, Tiramisu brownies, white chocolate cheesecake, Ben and Jerry’s chocolate therapy, but the espresso soaked goodness that is tiramisu wins out with the creamy marscapone egg cream that melts with the Vahlrona cocoa powder on top melts my heart as well. Yup tiramisu definately is the one;)

  14. I think my favorite dessert would be homemade coconut cake. There is the cake part that is good, then the frosting part that is good and the coconut especially if it’s toasted. It’s like three desserts in one.

  15. Holy goodness, that is just the prettiest kitchen appliance I have ever seen! Favorite Dessert? I think I’d have to stick with my Double Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. They are chocolate (‘nough said), oatmeal (which is a texture/ingredient I will never get enough of) and cocoa (which is good for you, right?). Thanks!

  16. I would eat my own ice cream cake. Brownie bottom, layer of peanut butter, vanilla ice cream with broken pieces of crispy crunch chocolate bar. Then final drizzles of chocolate and peanut butter. *drools*

  17. It would have to be cheesecake. Just about any kind of cheesecake really as long as it is cheesecake. I am just drooling all over that photo of the Kithcenaid Mixer. It is on my list of “Wish I could have but could never afford” stuff. I would be making bread and cheesecakes all day long!

  18. Peanut butter fudge! Hands down, didn’t even have to think about it. :)

  19. If I had to only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, I’d make it strawberry cheesecake! kiss

  20. If I could only eat one dessert, it would be my mom’s cherry cheesecake – hands down, no question. It’s an easy three ingredient, no bake cheesecake but it is SO delicious! I requested it throughout my childhood/teen years for every birthday, and for homecomings throughout my uni years. Heck, I still ask for it when mom says she will be hosting Christmas, Easter, whatever, haha. I plan on making this simple but satisfying recipe for my son when he’s old enough. Thanks mom!

  24. I think I would have to pick warm chocolate chip cookies, and yes they would always have to be warm.

  25. If I could only pick one dessert to eat for the rest of my days, it’d have to be my grandma’s “bugeyes.” It’s like a traditional buckeye, only, much MUCH bigger. She uses crunchy peanut butter and adds in rice krispies. They practically melt in your mouth, I haven’t ever had anything quite like it :)

  26. butterscotch pudding!!!

  27. I am simple. Chocolate cake no icing!

  34. Carrot Cake! But it’d have to be the best carrot cake ever made.

  35. chocolate peanut butter cake!

  36. It would be yellow cake with vanilla buttercream frosting! Extra frosting!

  37. Hmm..it would have to be cheesecake…can I pick multiple flavors?? :)

  38. Oatmeal cookies

  39. I would have to say a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing…

  50. My pick would be warm brownies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream–yum!! Thanks for the giveaway!!

  51. Simple – Dense, layered chocolate cake with fudge frosting with a large glass of ice cold milk on the side!

  52. If I could only have one dessert it would be Birthday cake with out a doubt. It would be a white cake with white birthday frosting and pretty frosting roses. I love pictures of birthday cakes too.

  53. Mint chocolate cupcakes. Or really anything with mint and chocolate, it could be just ice cream for all I care!

  54. chocolate dipped macaroons! delicious!

  55. hmm.. what an insanely difficult question!

I’d probably say super chewy fudge brownies – the edge/corner pieces.. with some vanilla ice cream. Mmmm.

  56. Strawberries or cherries!

  57. This is a tough one as i love Chocolate and lemon both so much. There are not really any desserts that combine those lovely flavors. So either moist chocolate cake or lovely lemon cheesecake. If I had to choose one, the chocolate cake probably.

  176. My husband and daughter both said ice cream without hesitation. I, on the other hand, don’t think it is possibly to choose just one! Lol

  177. Wow…just one? A pina colada cupcake topped with a whipped cream frosting, a pineapple slice and a cherry!

  178. most definitely it would be thick, rich New York style cheesecake! Plain….the added toppings are ok, but they really just take away from the deliciousness of the cheesecake alone. Mmmm, cheesecake!

  179. Only one dessert?! I think it would have to be a chocolate chip cookie with dark chocolate chunks and walnuts.

  180. I would eat homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! I can justify that as a vegetable!

  181. Hmmm….1 dessert would have to be pumpkin cheesecake. The reason why is because it combines 2 of my favorite flavors into 1 dessert!

  182. Rasberry and chocolate mousse with a piece of chocolate cake!!

  183. Chocolate & peanut butter ice cream

  184. One treat? I would have to go with the traditional chocolate chip cookie… with milk of course :)

  185. Dear Bakerella,
You are awesome. I’m pretty awesome too, I just don’t have a blog. My friends recommend I start a cooking and quilting blog, but that might consume me more than cooking or quilting! I tell you what would be awesome though- a beautiful blue kitchenaid in my kitchen!
My favorite dessert would have to be pie, and if I had to choose just one kind it would probably be strawberry-rhubarb. Thanks!

  186. Wow! only one sweet?? Thats a hard one!! If I could only every have one sweet for the rest of my life it would be…cinnamon buns! They are so ooy and gooy and who can resist the smell of cinnamon in the oven!

  187. A simple piece of really good chocolate. :)

  188. My granny’s recipe for sour cream cut out cookies. Not just because they taste so good but for the time and love that you put into making them.

  189. Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream….mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  190. I would choose oatmeal raisin cookies and not the hard, crispy kind but the soft, thick kind with extra raisins and lots of spice. That mixer is so pretty and I would LOVE to see it in my kitchen…..

  191. Chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting. And CAKE, not a cupcake…the ratio of cake to frosting is never right with a cupcake, as cute as they are.

  192. I’d have to forever choose between peanut butter and chocolate or mint and chocolate, and that’s like Sophie’s Choice for a fat kid.

Wow. I guess I’d have to choose Thin Mint cookies, but I would look longingly at those oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and think about what might have been.

  193. One dessert for the rest of my life i would probably have to say a classic marble cupcake with some buttercream icing simple yet never a let down. :)

  194. If I had to choose one dessert for the rest of my life it would have to be a blackberry wine cake with a chocolate mousse topping.

Glad you enjoy your fun filled meeting at Disney!

  195. It would have to be a dark, rich chocolate mud cake with a chocolate ganache. Could happily eat that every day.

  196. I make the most delicious whipping cream pound cake, and that is what I would choose. It gets better and better the longer it sits around. (If it lasts that long, that is!)

  197. Definitely vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup! Simple, but sooo good when it starts to melt a little bit and you mix it all together and it becomes like a thick milk shake! Yummy!

  198. Flourless chocolate cake from Ruth’s Criss!

  199. Plain cheesecake on a graham cracker crust

  200. Chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes dipped in ganache
