Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

Enter for a chance to win this Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchenaid!

  • If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose? And not just cookie or cupcake, etc. – but what kind if you can? I’m very curious.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  3. Hmmmm….. tough choice. It would either be chocolate chip cookies or mint chocolate chip ice cream. How about mint chocolate chip ice cream in a chocolate chip cookie sandwich? That would have to be it! It’s a good thing we don’t have to choose in real life!

  4. OMG just ONE?!? ok… Either peach pie or Cherry pie… Shocking, but I could give up chocolate forever, but I can never live without pie.

  20. if i could eat only one dessert for the rest of forever, it would be red velvet cake balls. the red velvet reminds me of a friend/coworker who died a few years ago from cancer. she insisted that we have red velvet cake when we celebrated her life. i’m choosing the cake balls over cake/cupcakes (your red velvet cake recipe is to die for, by the way. i made it a while back. beyond delicious, and a huge hit with my guy) because i feel like i’m eating less with the balls vs a piece of cake. in reality, i’m probably eating more at a time, but that’s ok. totally legit to fool myself – that’s gotta save a few calories, right?? :)

  21. Such a tough question! I might have to say ice cream/frozen yogurt! I love mint chocolate chip- or chocolate vanilla swirl. Delicious! (blue is my favorite color, by the way!)

  27. Chocolate Mousse

  28. I have to go with chocolate. I know it’s vague, but I’ll take whatever I can get! I mean…..if it’s the only sweet that I can ever eat….it’s just got to be chocolate! Choc chips, shavings, bar, sauce…I don’t care what form it is!!!

  29. I would have to say a vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting (because I LOVE this classic) with a chocolate ganache or mouse filling in the center for the times I crave chocolate. :) The best things all rolled into one small delicious cuteness.

  30. Red velvet cupcakes stuffed with Nutella! :)

  31. Brownies! And I would take the batter or cooked :)

  32. I would pick red velvet cake, but it has to have cream cheese icing!

  34. If I had to choose just one I’d choose cherry cheesecake.

  35. I would have to say Kuih Talam – its a 2-layer steamed Malaysian dessert made with rice flour and mung bean flour, flavored and colored green with the juice from screwpine leaves for the bottom layer. The top layer is made with rice flour and coconut milk. The bottom layer is cooked in a double boiler till a custard consistency then steamed. The top layer goes through the same process then added to bottom layer and steamed till firm. Its so yummy. Check it out here http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=218791788203847&set=a.218784544871238.53780.218540081562351&type=3&theater

  38. I would eat homemade Reese’s!!! I love chocolate and peanut butter, and the homemade ones are so yummy!!!!

  39. If I could eat one dessert for the rest of my life it would have to be the cheesecake bars you posted a recipe on topped with the chocolate ganache! Those are my favorite and seem to be everyone’s when I make it for others. Thank you so much for the giveaway!

  40. Sweet potato pie :)

  41. That’s easy!!! A local chef here makes a vanilla bean cake (he soaks the beans in rum and adds that goodness to the cake) that is moist and amazing. Topped with thick buttercream frosting…and if you’re feeling like splurging, fondant!!! YUM.

  42. I love yellow or white cake with chocolate icing….SO MUCH! And that Crystal Blue is super cool – I’m completely digging the retro vibe!

  48. Definitely, chocolate chip peanut butter cookies–it’s an obsession! and fabulously gluten-free!

  49. WOW i never thought that question would be so hard!!! If i could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of my life, I would choose… cheesecake brownies. there are so many different sweets i love, but i don’t think i could go without chocolate ;-)

  50. I could eat creme de menthe brownies everyday. In the summer, I put them in the freezer and eat them like ice cream sandwiches. Definitely my choice. And if I win the mixer, I am giving it to my sister so she can start making treats for me instead of me always mailing them to her.

  51. frozen yogurt! Do I have to get specific and just pick one flavor and one topping too? If I do, then cookies and creme flavor with rainbow cookies as the topping. NOM NOM NOM.

  52. Definitely Salted Caramel Mocha Cupcakes. I discovered a recipe for them last year and made them several times. Every time I made them they didn’t last very long…YUMMY!!!!

  53. I would say turtle cheesecake would have to be my choice. Man, this is a tough question!

  54. Only one dessert?!!!!
It would have to be a traditional English Cream Tea!
Light English Scones, Strawberry Jam and Devon or Cornish Clotted Cream.
Sitting outside on a gently warm, sunny day or in front of a roaring fire when it’s cold outside, it’s just magical <3

  55. Chocolate chip cookies!

  56. That’s a hard question! I guess I would have to say mint chocolate chip ice cream. :)

  57. Only 1??? The decadent dessert would be a dense, gooey brownie. The healthier dessert would be my homemade angelfood cake with fresh berries. Need a good mixer for all those egg whites!

  80. Berries – strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries – Soo yum and loaded with antioxidants!

  82. Reese Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake or Blueberry cheesecake. Any kind of cheesecake for that matter!

  83. I would have to say my go-to Chocolate chip cookies–with peanut butter and oatmeal. I usually only end up making about 3/4 or the recipe because the dough is so darn good!

  113. Warm chocolate chip cookies!

  114. Just one dessert?! What a tough decision! If I was forced to make a decision though, I think I would go with a simple, but yummy, red velvet cupcake with a big vat of any kind of frosting to with it. But I don’t want the icing spread on to the cupcake, I will just dip it into the vat of frosting! Then lick the bowl afterwards, of course.

  115. Definitely a slice of still warm mixed berry pie with scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!!!

  155. I honestly don’t know how I could choose one thing. I would be so sad for all of the other things I’d be giving up!
Maybe Ben & Jerry’s “Everything But The” ice cream… it kind of has it all… except fruit, but then, I suppose I could still eat real fruit.

  156. Blsvk bottom cuipcakes!

  157. Definitely, a real Polish cheesecake, especially the one of my grandmother.

  158. My favorite would be my Grandmother’s recipe that she called Boiled Cookies.

  160. This mixer is beautiful! The dessert I would pick would be a good old chocolate chip cookie! Classic! :)

  161. Wow I have never really taken the chance to sit down and think about desserts dissappearing! How terrible would that be! So if I HAD to pick one dessert that I would miss the most (because I love them all) I would have to say it would be cake. How sad would it be to never be able to eat another birthday cake, wedding cake, baby shower cake etc. Not only are cakes delicious but they also bring excitement and entertainment to just about every occasion! My favorite flavor of cake of course would be a red velvet cake!

  162. You all look like you had a blast. I just started subscribing last week to your site. I love to bake and experiment with cooking. I wish I had the courage to start up a blog!

  178. One type of dessert…..for the rest of my life?? It would definitely have to be chocolate. Texas sheet cake…rich chocolate cake with a fudgey pecan icing. Not sure why we call it TEXAS sheet cake, that’s what my Mom called it and that’s what it has always been!
