Hello again

I can’t believe I’m writing another post without a single picture in it, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you how completely overwhelmed I’ve been reading all your prayers and beautiful words of encouragement. It’s taken me a few days but I have read them all … all 4,400+ of them. Wow!!! I’ve smiled and cried and felt so lucky to have this blog that connects us all. Thank you.

While reading, I was moved by so many of you that share similar stories. And even more overwhelmed by offers to be tested to see if you could be a kidney donor for me. That is so amazing. I don’t even know how to process it yet. Asking that of anyone is something that does not come naturally to me. It’s very difficult to even accept that gift from my mom if she turns out to be able to donate. And hopefully she will. But your offers are so special and kind and generous of heart that I had to make sure you all knew that I did read them and whether or not I could ask that of anyone, I wanted you all to know how honored I am.

There were an overwhelming number of comments from people that know someone with kidney failure or on dialysis or with a transplant or even their second or third transplant. Too, too many. My love goes out to all of you and your family and friends as well. It’s a tough thing.

March is National Kidney Month and I believe April is National Donate Life Month. With everything going on with me lately, I find it hard not to mention that. Please take a minute to think about organ donation. So many people are on waiting lists and will be for a long time.

Okay, the good news is I came home from the hospital Tuesday night after 18 days. Finally. Yay! I’ll be on a different journey for a while, but one that I’ve been on before. Dialysis. I won’t go into all the details, but basically I will get four-hour treatments, three days a week. Kind of a bummer. But hopefully it won’t be for too long.

I also wanted to let you know that I still plan on posting as I go through everything. I want to keep things as close to normal as possible. It may not be on a schedule, but it will be when I can. And of course … cute.

P.S. – I want to say hi to all the first time commenters. Hi there! Big hugs. I’m so happy to hear from all of you.

And now I’m off to read 18 days of emails that I wasn’t able to check while I was in the hospital. Help.

P.S.S. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  2. u r truly an amazing woman, even with all ur going thru your still giving. God bless u. i’ll be praying for u

  3. I have been on a little blog break, and am just catching up! I am so sorry to hear the news, but I am definitely praying for you!

  4. Thinking of you with love and prayers, you brave, beautiful, talented woman! I am very familiar with kidneys and all that can go wrong. My best friend donated her kidney to one of her best friends in 2010. I was diagnosed last year with chronic kidney disease (currently at 42% function). Your strength and grace radiate, and I am hoping your journey is as smooth and easy as these things can be. You’re amazing. OXO

  5. What a trial by fire you’re experiencing! I was amazed by the time it took to process eligibility as a donor. I was tested frequently for various things from February to August the year I donated (09). It has to be agonizing for both you and your Mom. I would hope knowing the “tech support” from all your fans is uplifting.
In a side note, my daughter has discovered your cake pops and is having a ball creating some different ones. My next ‘gift’ to her will be your book.
Again, my prayers and thoughts are with you in this revisited journey you are on.

  6. I love your cake pops. I have never tasted one and tonight I made some for the first time following your instructions. Are they supposed to taste like cookie dough, raw. Did I do something wrong, maybe too much frosting, I only used 3/4 of the can of frosting to one box of cake mix.

  7. Very late to this post and you (hopefully) probably know about this, but if you haven’t already, look into applying for End Stage Renal Disease Medicare through Social Security. You may be eligible if you are on dialysis and awaiting a transplant.

Best wishes for a speedy and healthy recovery

  8. So happy that you are back home. Looking forward to many more posts from you.

    Take care.

  9. Hello, O MY CUPCAKES!!!!!

I live in Flagstaff, Az., at 7,000 ft. When we get a new craze it has already been out for over two years.
I found you around a yr. ago, and have shared all of the wonderful, delightful adventures in awesome baked goods.
I was at Starbuck’s yesterday, and guess what is in their pastry case? Yes, your cake pops, and was it a wonder to see. They also have whoopie pies, which my friends and family devour every time I make them.

I am making whoopie pies for my daughter’s bake sale. Thanks, and all of our prayers, love, blessings, and healing we are constantly sending your way.
    thanks, kerbe, redraven

  12. I haven’t been on your site for awhile but thought I’d check and see what’s new for Easter, instead I read about what you’ve been going through. I am sorry you’ve got to go through this but I wish you and your Mom both the very best. Your positive attitude will serve you well! My 13 year old daughter gave me your book for Christmas and we will be making you Chickie pops for our Easter gathering. God’s blessings on you and your family!

  13. Hope all is well for you.

  14. Hi there! I’m just going through the post and saw this one and it brought me to tears. I’m new to the Pop World and have been inspired to get back on track with my creativity because of your book. I was in BJ’s Wholesale about a month ago and was just praying to God that morning to help me get my passion back of creating and baking, low and behold I stubled on your book because my husband wanted me to look at something for our son. When I turned and looked down at the book table, there it was, looking at me your book. I’m so inspired and in awe of your creativity and those of others here on your site that have shared. I’m so glad that my prayers have been answered and I wish you many blessings and strength as you get well.

    God Bles you!!

  20. I just wanted to write and tell you to hang in there. I had my second kidney transplant almost three years ago. My mom donated the first time and my boyfriend donated the second kidney. It is really frightening to lose a kidney, but I know you will recover and get another transplant. Much love to you and please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time if you have questions about transplant related issues (I had high antibodies and had to have months of treatment before the 2nd transplant) or for any other reason. I hope all goes well!

  48. I worked as a dialysis social worker for 5 long years, and I wish you all the best in your journey. I am sure that you will bring lots of love and smiles to you unit and that your social worker will LOVE having someone like you (upbeat, good social supports, etc) on board. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

  49. My brother is currently going through the process and should have his transplant in April. Luckily my brothers are twins and my other brother has 2 fully function healthy kidneys and can give one. I was tested as a donor and was a match as well, which is good to know since in all likelyhood he will need another transplant in about 20 years. I know how hard this process is during the wait and see stage, so my prayers are with you and your family!

I wish you all the best and I hope you find a donor soon. Hang in there and know that you are surrounded by love, even if it’s just through cyberspace!

  53. Hooray for being home, finally!! (…it really does make a difference.) I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. In the words of my father, ‘this too shall pass…” And it will, with your new kidney, as soon as it finds its way to you. I can only imagine that your kidney’s previous owner would have been happy knowing that they contributed to such a wonderful and loving soul. Sending hugs to greet you on your journey.

  54. Hope you’re feeling well today!

  55. Still thinking of you and praying you get healing and a kidney soon. Praying you feel the love of Jesus and the peace only he can give in a situation like this. Blessings to you. Making cake pops for a bake sale! Lots of love coming your way.

I think that I have some problems in my life regarding health issues, but reading or hearing stories like yours helps me realize that I’m lucky. You have been such an inspiration to me! My mom and I are constantly checking your blog for updates. I love reading about all the interesting things you come up with. You’ve inspired me to bake. I love to do it! My friends always love when I bake. Just today I brought in Snickerdoodle Duos and people inhaled them! I love seeing people’s faces light up!
Thanks for reading this! I hope you get better soon and I wish I could get the opportunity to meet you someday!
    Thanks,
    Allie

  57. Wishing you the best…hugs!

  59. Big Big hug and i hope your mother matches.

  60. So much love and hugs for your family… I hope you get a donor soon, I’m on the donor registry so hopefully I’ll get a call…

  61. My nanny is on dialysis just like you are…she just started with us at the beginning of the month, but now I feel bad…I know next to nothing about what’s going on with her, why she has kidney trouble, I know she had a stroke, but what I can do for her…I was about to say “even though” I don’t know her very well…but she is so good with my son. You’ve motivated me to somehow show her I care, without seeming nosy. I hope there’s something I can do for her.

  62. Best wishes on your journey! I love your site and lurk often…you are so creative and have such delicious recipes! My husband and I have a very personal experience with kidney donation…you are in our thoughts and prayers!

  63. I was in such a shock to read about you, but I’m happy for you that you left the hospital. Sending you lots of love and prayers from Israel!!!

  64. Some happy thoughts to make you smile, even if you’re not feeling better yet:

I just got your book for my birthday and I am totally excited about trying cake balls/pops again now that I’ve read your wonderful instructions. The first time I tried, I glossed over it on the website and I did about 14 things wrong so they were the ugliest cake balls you have ever seen but really, really tasty!

I’ve currently got plots to take cupcake bites to a potluck at church sometime soon. I’m pretty excited.

Also, cupcake pops AT STARBUCKS! They only have three flavors – we tried rocky road and tiramisu because they were out of [pink!] birthday cake – but, still, so entertaining. The cake consistency is kind of different and they’re somehow even sweeter than when you make them at home but you get to take them home in a cute box and everything.

In the meantime, I hope you’re feeling better. We’re praying for you.

  65. YAY! For your homecoming, Prayers from my Church Valley Praise in Harlingen, TX

  66. I think a batch of CELEBRATORY cake pops are in order!

  68. Praying for you!!! You bring so much joy to our lives through your blog… I hope we can do the same for you now!

  69. I’m glad you’re home, and hope you’ll have a safe recovery. *hugs*

  70. Still sending you tons of good vibes each day! And I hope you’re keeping your face toward the sun… if you’re toward the sun, you can’t see any shadows that may be out there.

I just want to tell you that you are such an inspiration to me. Your genius has unearthed my desire to make cake pops for everyone I know. I’ve got you to thank… so, thank you. :) Sending a gentle, but meaningful squeeze, even though I don’t know you in person. Hope you accept virtual hugs!

Take care and keep in mind that you’ve got an army of people praying for you out here.

I admit, I’m a first time commenter AND first time ever commenting on a blog i follow =) I found about what you’re going through via the Starbucks website through outraged fans of yours. As alot of you know, Starbucks is now selling cake pops, and so are a thousand of us out there…as i made my first ever cake pops batch, my friend texts me saying she saw cake pops in Starbucks. I was bummed…THEN I wanted to find out why the heck are they selling cake pops!?! I went to their website and saw the “story” and how it’s a trend on blogs like YOU…they even misspelled your blog! LOL
I don’t know what to say, i dislike negative words (even though i’m secretly screaming in my head)…but kudos to them, they are making YOU more famous =)

I super wish you well and stay strong! You are blessed with all these people cheering you on…including me!

You know the saying that God won’t give you more than you can handle…well…I am sure, at this point you are thinking “Okay, Lord, I am not THAT strong!!!” I’ve been in that position thinking…”Okay…enough already!” But, you know, it is true. He IS there to lean on and will bring you through this. Praying that everything goes well for you and your Mom. God Bless You!

  134. Just letting you know that I’m thinking of you and hoping your mom is a match. I donated a kidney to my mom just 2 1/2 years ago. Unfortunately after about a year and half the kidney started to reject. She’s back on dialysis. I’m sad about the rejection but happy I was able to give my mom a year of freedom and the gift of life.

  135. Lots of love and hugs and prayers for you, Angie!!! You’ll be back on your feet in no time. Thanks for the love and joy and sweetness (quite literally) that you bring to others. My hips aren’t thanking you, however. They have to do lots of cardio to keep up with the goodies I make from this site. ;-)

    Hugs,

    Diane

Just wanted you to know that I’m adding you to my daily prayer list, and will be praying that dialysis goes very well and that a donor kidney will come along at the right time! Take care, stay strong and know God has more BIG PLANS for you!! I enjoy your site, and my girls and I are now addicted to making cake balls. Will have to read more to learn your tips and secrets in hope that our creativity will help us do more than the basics. Take care – God Bless!
