Happy Sunday! And Happy Father’s Day, too! I’m giving away something sweet to celebrate summer and of course ice cream.
You know, I think I could eat ice cream every day. It’s always my favorite go-to treat when I travel… but I never really get ice cream at restaurants. That just seems boring. Probably because it’s not as fun as going into a scoop shop and looking all the pretty creamy colors. And I always prefer eating ice cream out of a cup. I don’t like to eat it out of a cone because I’m way messy. So if I do get it in a cone, it’s just so I can snap a picture of it. Then I turn it upside down and dump it in a cup and eat it with a spoon – or better yet – I like to break up the waffle cone (never a sugar cone) and use it to scoop out the ice cream. I may be weird.
Okay, back to the giveaway.

Rocky road ice cream is a chocolate flavored ice cream. Though there are variations on the flavor, it is traditionally composed of chocolate ice cream, nuts, and marshmallows. According to one source, the flavor was created in March 1929 by William Dreyer in Oakland, California when he cut up walnuts and marshmallows with his wife’s sewing scissors and added them to his chocolate ice cream in a manner that reflected his partner Joseph Edy’s chocolate candy creation incorporating walnuts and marshmallow pieces. Later, the walnuts would be replaced by pieces of toasted almond. After the Wall Street Crash of 1929, Dreyer and Edy gave the flavor its current name “to give folks something to smile about in the midst of the Great Depression”. Alternatively, Fentons Creamery in Oakland claims that William Dreyer based his recipe on a Rocky Road-style ice cream flavor invented by his friend, Fentons’ George Farren, who blended his own Rocky Road-style candy bar into ice cream; however, Dreyer substituted almonds for walnuts.
The original Rocky Road ice cream used chocolate ice cream with no chocolate chip pieces. Today, Rocky Road can be obtained based on vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips, marshmallows and almonds. and this my favorite ice cream of all!!!!!!!

There’s an amazing ice cream at the Penn State Creamery- Autumn Harvest or something to those effects. It has small chunks of apple in it and a berry swirl. It doesn’t sound as appealing as it tastes and it has to be had in a waffle cone to get the pie crust-like flavor to the mix.

Cinnamon is my very favorite ice cream flavor in the world! But it has to be a good strong cinnamon and not some wimpy little wanna-be! My favorite way to enjoy it is in a chocolate shake or a hot fudge sundae. Cinnamon and chocolate are AWESOME together!!!!

I like Jeni’s Salty Caramel, it’s a classic. When we moved to Ohio Jeni’s soon became one of my favorite parts of living here. I’m glad to see her yummy flavors are all over the country now!

I love homemade Cherry Ameretto in a bowl. It tastes very similar to Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia. The alcohol makes it a little on the soft side, which I like, but it will freeze.

There’s an ice cream shop in my hometown that makes the best cinnamon ice cream, and I crave it every summer. I love it in a waffle cone.
I like to grab a carton of sugar free vanilla ice cream and microwave it for 20 seconds to soften it up. Then I squirt in some sugar free chocolate syrup and add some sugar free Cool-Whip, then it’s on!
I love cookie dough ice cream. Pralines and cream is also an amazing treat. Also, it’s got to be in a bowl. Always.
