Joy with friends and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Wendy, Bridget and Amy

I was in Columbus, Ohio last weekend visiting with some sweet friends that I’ve met through blogging… Wendy of Wenderly, Bridget of Bake at 350, and Amy of She Wears Many Hats. Hi guys! I mean girls.

Wendy lives in Ohio and invited us to spend a few days at her cabin in the woods. Has anyone seen that movie? And yes, I totally spent the weekend suggesting scary movie situations to them. What if this – and what if that. But mostly scaring myself. I definitely watch way too many SyFy Sunday movies. If you watch that channel, you know the ones I mean.

Anyway, we kicked off our fun cabining weekend with a straight from the airport pitstop for lunch and then Jeni’s ice cream. Yay!

Jeni's Ice Cream

Jeni’s is based in Ohio and I’ve been wanting to visit one of her scoop shops for some time now.

Jeni's Signature Flavors

She has some incredible flavors. Or should I say splendid.

Yogurt

And yogurt too.

I love all the chalk writing and window words. So cute.

Jeni's Ice Cream

The inside of the store is perfect with the ceiling strung in little lights and paper garland.

Jeni's Ice Cream

You can buy ice cream by the scoop and by the pint. Whoohoo!

So many flavors. Signature and seasonal ones too.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Like this one for flu season. Influenza sorbet.

Soothing for the sickly. Made with cayenne pepper, ginger, bourbon, honey, orange and lemon juices.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Handwritten! Love it and love how the same flavors are written by different people. What a fun way to add that personal touch.

And now I have a strange desire get a job handwriting ice cream labels. I wonder if I could add hearts and smiley faces.

By the way, if you’re in Ohio, stop what you are doing right now and run and get some of that Maple Walnut ice cream. It’s fantastic. I think that container on the top right is actually mocking me right now with all of its maple amazingness. I even tried to order some more today online, but that flavor is seasonal and isn’t shipping. Wipes tear. So get it in stores while you can.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Sweet friends, ice cream and a great start to our winter weekend away.

You know what, you can also make your own Jeni’s ice cream. Check out her book: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home.
Jeni's Ice Cream

The staff at Jeni’s was great. Super patient. They didn’t even mind the 571 samples we asked for. But I think that’s pretty smart of them, because then we ended up ordering 571 scoops to enjoy. You know … just to be absolutely sure they were good. : )

Jeni's Ice Cream

Okay not really 571 scoops, but several. Here’s a few of the flavors we all sampled.

Eaten

Enjoyed and instagrammed. It’s a mandatory food blogging thing … to share when something is so so good.

Jeni's Ice Cream

My favorites right now: Dark Chocolate (of course) and that Maple Walnut. Goodness. Very goodness!

Amy, Wendy & Bridget

While we were laughing and sampling, we had a fun surprise. Jeni stopped in the location we were at. With several stores, we certainly weren’t expecting that. Wendy had met her before so she introduced us.

Me and Jeni

Hi Jeni! Your ice cream makes my tummy happy.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Such a great smile. It’s nice to see when people are doing something they love.

Visit Jeni’s Ice Cream for online ordering, scoop shop locations and where to buy by the pint in other states.

  1. So much about ice cream, even with this freeze coming on. My favorite frozen treat hands down is a chocolate milk shake made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup.

  2. LOVE ice cream and can’t wait to try Jeni’s the next time I visit my brother in Ohio. My go to flavor is usually vanilla or mint chocolate chip–but that may change when I try some of Jeni’s!

  3. I am all about ice cream!! Can be regular or soft serve…Love it all!

  4. Ice cream, all the way! Usually something with fresh fruit and cheesecake!

  5. Ice cream! It’s 8:15 a.m. and my mouth is now watering for ice cream. Sooo many beautiful pics or tempting flavors. Yum! This is going to be a long day.

  21. I didn’t even look to see how to enter, I’m just so freakin’ thrilled to see you beautiful women together in one of my favorite places… and can I just say that Jeni’s hair… damn it looks good! There is a place to get it locally in Boston, but it’s one of those special treats kinda things. I also have the book, though I have only read through it and haven’t cooked from it yet. I think that has to change ASAP.

  25. I’m all about ice cream! I love it!!!

  26. I love them all but my absolute favorite has to be butter pecan.

  51. I’m definitely an ice cream girl! Reading all the flavors in the comments is really making me wish it was a bit warmer out!

  54. Ice cream!

  55. I am definitely all about ice cream! And Jeni’s is one of my absolute favorites. The brown butter almond brittle is out of this world!

  56. With me, it’s all about quality…if the ice cream is good I am on it, but if it’s not I will forgo it and move on. :) I love a good frozen yogurt, and a place by my house makes some that is really good. Oddly, it’s freezing here and NOW is when my husband brings home pints of ice cream–not a bit all summer long! :)

  57. In all about ice cream-anything with “stuff” in it. ( chocolate , coconut, etc)

  58. What a great post–I loved seeing all of the photos! I’m all about the ice cream, but would not say no to any frozen snack. Let’s be real here!

  60. Ice cream!! The creamier the better!

  61. I love ice cream. Full fat, full flavor deliciousness! Even though it is currently 2 degrees out here I would still find room in my belly for a few of those pints right away!

  62. Ice Cream! For sure!

  63. Those flavors sound amazing! I’m definitely an ice cream fan, though it’s hard to pass up soft serve in a cone, or a maple creemee in Vermont.

  64. Ice cream all the way, frozen yogurt is a close second!

  65. I love all three, but I’m a fool for straight up ice cream – mint chocolate chip IS MY FAVORITE! But I’ve been dying to try me some Jeni’s for a while now – I actually live in Ohio, but they don’t have any locations in Cincinnati!

  66. I’m really into both! I guess sorbcream (ice cream and sorbet) :o)

  67. Ice cream!!!

My earliest memories of my late grandmother are of her sharing a bowl of ice cream with my sister and me, and my father is pretty much addicted to the stuff, so naturally, I married a guy who loves it as much as I do and our (now grown) children call it their favorite dessert! I am an ice cream girl. I love salted caramel and coffee, but I suspect Jeni’s Bangkok Peanut might be a new fave…

  84. Ice cream–chocolate peppermint or chunky monkey!

  85. YUM!!! My family would be in heaven!

  86. I looovvvee frozen yogurt! I started eating it everyday when I was pregnant with my twins and I haven’t stopped! I live in northeast Ohio, and have heard so much about Jeni’s, I would definitely make room in my deep freezer for 17 pints!!!!

  99. Just think of all the troubles 17 pints of ice cream could solve!

  100. Ooooh goodness! I think in the summer I’m more of a frozen yogurt girl (especially if they have a good cake batter flavor – with sprinkles, obviously). In the winter, I’m a fanatic for the holiday peppermint flavors – my husband thinks the offerings of Peppermint milkshakes is my favorite part of the holidays (and he’s probably not far from being right)!

  104. OMG! What I wouldn’t give to win this for my husband, a true lover of ice-cream. Our freezer is full of the lovely concoction just for him. I even had to buy an ice cream maker to make the ice cream he used to eat in Peru. Winning this would be the ultimate Valentine’s Day gift.

  111. Wow! does this look incredible and is making my mouth water!
If its sweet and frozen, sign me up. I change depending on my mood. I do a lot of frozen yogurt but sometimes a girl is just in the mood for something creamier so I spring for Ice Cream and other times Sorbet (typically on a hot summer day) is what calls out for me ;)

  133. It’s a close race between ice cream and frozen yogurt for me to choose a favorite, but since I try to live a healthy lifestyle I must go with the frozen yogurt. I really enjoy Greek frozen yogurt because it is creamier and thicker than regular frozen yogurt, and it also has a tang to it that’s tasty. 158. There’s always room in my freezer for ice cream! Or sorbet. Or frozen yogurt. I don’t discriminate – I love them all. If I had to choose just one though, ice cream hands down! Chocolate and coffee are my favorite flavors, but I’ve yet to meet a flavor I didn’t like.

  176. Just made homemade milkshakes last night. Mine was strawberry and banana, my husband enjoyed chocolate and our exchange student had straight up strawberry. I could never choose my favorite flavor but raspberry chocolate chip would be at the top of my list.

  177. It is all about the different variations/mis of flavors using chocolate, whether it is a frozen treat, sorbet or ice cream. It is worth cheating while being on a diet. Feels more rewarding instead of feeling guilty. Diet can always continue tomorrow.

  178. I scream for ice cream

  179. I live in Columbus and I havent had Jeni’s yet!! I love icecream and maple walnut is one of my favorites (from friendlys) My family and I would love to win this and sample their icecreams. Thank you! Glad you girls had fun!

  180. If I am buying in the store, I would have to say frozen yogurt. BUT if I am making it, it would be my goat’s milk ice cream – YUM!! Nothing better than that!!

  181. I am an ice cream girl all the way!!! I can’t even imagine 17 pints all different flavors — I would be in ice cream heaven!

  182. I am definitely an ice cream lover! The richer the better. Last summer, I made my favorite flavor ever: a salted maple butter pecan. Delicious!

We often visit Columbus and have never heard of Jeni’s, thanks so much for sharing!

  183. I am an ice cream freak! Love them all but always had a soft spot for rocky road! Romantic story!

  184. Ice cream. Totally ice cream. Also, whiskey and pecans? Oh my!

  185. Are you and Jenny long lost sisters? You look so much alike. I like frozen bananas. I cut them up and freeze them. I like the creaminess of frozen bananas.

  186. Favorite frozen treat….hand’s down is ice cream! I love ice cream with chunks of goodness like cheesecake or peanut butter. Jeni’s Maple Walnut sounds AMAZING! You can’t go wrong with ice cream. :)

  187. Ice cream, yum!

  188. Oh, my! All about the ice cream!!

  189. It’s hard to pick between Ice Cream and FroYo!! But I think if it’s a really good flavor–super decadent–then it has to be ice cream!!

  190. Best giveaway ever!!!! I’m all about ice cream and I LOVE trying different kinds.

  191. Ice Cream by far my favorite. I think I would be in real trouble if I lived within a days drive of this place.

  192. Ice cream is the best! Love it all ways, but especially ice cream sandwiches with chocolate chip cookies or brownies.

  193. Bring on the ice cream:)

  194. I never really cared for ice cream until I married my hubby. Now it’s one of my favorites and I love strawberry!

  195. Ice cream! The pistachio honey sounds like it would be right down my alley. Yum!

  196. I’d say ice cream but the fact is I’m kind of a whore for any thing that says “salted caramel”! NOM!

  197. Ice cream is my choice. Plain ole pistachio is my favorite!

  198. I love Jeni’s Ice Cream!!! I’m more of an ice cream fan, but sorbets and frozen yogurts come very close. She has a seasonal flavor “The Black Forest” that I love. I also tried the Rainbow Frozen Yogurt recently, and it was amazing. Thanks for putting on this contest!

  199. This has to be one of the best giveaways..ever. I love ice cream, and I love every flavor. I do love all these frozen yogurt places that are popping up ,as well. I wish I had my own topping bar! Nothing makes you feel better than sitting down with a couple of scoops of frozen cream (especially if it has chocolate in it).

  200. My Hubby is all about ice cream, and I’m serious for sorbet. I would love to try her ice cream and I’m going over to check out her recipes.
