Joy with friends and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Wendy, Bridget and Amy

I was in Columbus, Ohio last weekend visiting with some sweet friends that I’ve met through blogging… Wendy of Wenderly, Bridget of Bake at 350, and Amy of She Wears Many Hats. Hi guys! I mean girls.

Wendy lives in Ohio and invited us to spend a few days at her cabin in the woods. Has anyone seen that movie? And yes, I totally spent the weekend suggesting scary movie situations to them. What if this – and what if that. But mostly scaring myself. I definitely watch way too many SyFy Sunday movies. If you watch that channel, you know the ones I mean.

Anyway, we kicked off our fun cabining weekend with a straight from the airport pitstop for lunch and then Jeni’s ice cream. Yay!

Jeni's Ice Cream

Jeni’s is based in Ohio and I’ve been wanting to visit one of her scoop shops for some time now.

Jeni's Signature Flavors

She has some incredible flavors. Or should I say splendid.

Yogurt

And yogurt too.

I love all the chalk writing and window words. So cute.

Jeni's Ice Cream

The inside of the store is perfect with the ceiling strung in little lights and paper garland.

Jeni's Ice Cream

You can buy ice cream by the scoop and by the pint. Whoohoo!

So many flavors. Signature and seasonal ones too.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Like this one for flu season. Influenza sorbet.

Soothing for the sickly. Made with cayenne pepper, ginger, bourbon, honey, orange and lemon juices.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Handwritten! Love it and love how the same flavors are written by different people. What a fun way to add that personal touch.

And now I have a strange desire get a job handwriting ice cream labels. I wonder if I could add hearts and smiley faces.

By the way, if you’re in Ohio, stop what you are doing right now and run and get some of that Maple Walnut ice cream. It’s fantastic. I think that container on the top right is actually mocking me right now with all of its maple amazingness. I even tried to order some more today online, but that flavor is seasonal and isn’t shipping. Wipes tear. So get it in stores while you can.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Sweet friends, ice cream and a great start to our winter weekend away.

You know what, you can also make your own Jeni’s ice cream. Check out her book: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home.
Jeni's Ice Cream

The staff at Jeni’s was great. Super patient. They didn’t even mind the 571 samples we asked for. But I think that’s pretty smart of them, because then we ended up ordering 571 scoops to enjoy. You know … just to be absolutely sure they were good. : )

Jeni's Ice Cream

Okay not really 571 scoops, but several. Here’s a few of the flavors we all sampled.

Eaten

Enjoyed and instagrammed. It’s a mandatory food blogging thing … to share when something is so so good.

Jeni's Ice Cream

My favorites right now: Dark Chocolate (of course) and that Maple Walnut. Goodness. Very goodness!

Amy, Wendy & Bridget

While we were laughing and sampling, we had a fun surprise. Jeni stopped in the location we were at. With several stores, we certainly weren’t expecting that. Wendy had met her before so she introduced us.

Me and Jeni

Hi Jeni! Your ice cream makes my tummy happy.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Such a great smile. It’s nice to see when people are doing something they love.

Visit Jeni’s Ice Cream for online ordering, scoop shop locations and where to buy by the pint in other states.

  1. Frozen treats are the fine wines of the South Pole. There’s a frozen treat to fit any occasion, season, mood, and now tummy reliever with Miss Jeni, Influenza sorbet, got to find it.
I luv root bear float frozen yogurt in the summer; pineapple, raspberry or green tea sorbet in the spring; a fine vanilla, pistachio, mint-chocolate cookie, or spomoni ice cream year round! And, mochi ice-cream when I crave an Asian hug.

  2. I work at a Carvel, so I am all about the ice cream, especially chocolate chip cookie dough. Although Kopp’s frozen custard from Wisconsin is to die for…not for frozen treat rookies though!

  3. Always an ice cream girl! Mint chocolate chip is the best

  4. Usually when it comes to ice cream, I can take it or leave it. BUT…my husband gave me Jeni’s cookbook last year for Christmas and ooh la la! I can go for Jeni’s ice creams anytime!

  5. im am full of frozen yogurt, i do love icecream and will toss out the ice bucket out to fit all that yummy icecream.

  6. Ice Cream all the way.

My new freezer would look great with all those flavors in it.

  7. Ice cream definitely! We had to visit Columbus recently and Jeni’s ice cream was the highlight of our trip. Twice!

  8. I have to say I’m an ice cream gal and I know it sounds boring, but there’s nothing better than a terrific scoop of vanilla. There’s a great place in Minnesota called Sebastian Joe’s – they’ve got a great vanilla ice cream!

  9. I’d go with custard, actually! So creamy and so not good for you!

  10. I have the cookbook but haven’t had actual Jeni’s yet! Definitely ice cream.

  11. Definitely FROZEN YOGURT! I love to self-serve taste them all, buy a big one and sit dizzy full of fro yo. Somehow I manage to eat it all. After seeing this post, and my husband announcing “we are traveling across America with the kids this summer in an RV”, I have added Jenni’s to our new “must stop” list!

  12. I am all about ice cream! My favorite treat is dark chocolate ice cream. I am so impressed with this blog, Bakerella. Thanks for sharing your adventure at Jenis.

  13. Ice cream is my favorite. Black raspberry chocolate chip from Graters. When I’m in Columbus Jeni’s salty caramel rocks.

  14. Nothing is better than ice cream to make a day perfect! Love it!

  15. I truly enjoy the creaminess of ice cream, but by the time I am full, my tummy isn’t happy, so I stick with sorbet! And so many great flavours, my mouth is watering!

  16. Definitely ice cream-but I like to pretend I am being healthy and eat frozen yogurt.

  17. Ice cream all the way!

  18. I’m all about ice cream. Preferably peanut butter or maple flavored!

  19. My fave is still vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup all stirred together! My homemade soft-serve!

  20. Hardest question ever and I think the answer would change for me all the time. But right now it would be ice cream then sorbet in a close second. The hubby and I really LOVEEE three twins lemon cookie ice cream.

  22. I am a complete ice cream and yogurt girl! It must come with some sort of chocolate candy topping as well!

  23. I am all about ice cream! Yummm!!!!

  24. Hands down ice cream is the ultimate comfort dessert! My dad would always take me to the carnation store in Beaumont when my mom was in the hospital. That goes back over 50 years. I would always get peppermint. I have a 1/2 gallon in the freezer right now.

  25. I scream for ice cream :) My childhood favorite was chocolate chip mint from Baskin-Robins, and I still enjoy – but, there used to be a restaurant in Monticello, Ill that would make Guinness ice cream and it was my absolute favorite.

  36. I love the flavor combinations in ice cream, but every so often I crave the fresh fruitiness of sorbet. So it’s a tie :)

  37. Unlike my daughter, I love ice cream and can have it all night long. But for a year of so I’ve really been enjoying frozen yogurt, the taste is lighter and it’s one of my favorites when I’m not wanting full on ice cream.

  38. Froyo! Tangy plain froyo with white chocolate chips, mango, and rainbow sprinkles…and a dollop of whipped cream!

  39. Ice cream. Mint chocolate chip is the best with chocolate almond coming in as a very close second.

  40. Ice cream all the way!!! Actually, anything chocolate and frozen is fantastic!

  95. Loving frozen yogurt right now!

  96. All about frozen yogurt!! Especially peanut butter cup frozen yogurt. It tastes just as good as real ice cream and isn’t as bad for you. But if you are like me and eat 3 cups its still bad :) hope I’m the winner so I can eat all 17 pints :)

  97. My favorite frozen treat is a either a chocolate dipped waffle cone filled with cookies and cream covered in rainbow sprinkles or a giant scoop of pumpkin ice cream with rainbow sprinkles!!!

  127. Ice cream all the way, bay-bee! I worked at Baskin Robbins years and years and years ago and my favorite flavor was Pirate’s Gold which was rum flavored ice cream with pieces of butter brickel in it. Unfortunately, they don’t make it any more, but it was definitely yummy! Another good seasonal one is eggnog ice cream with crunched up Oreos in it. Don’t knock it till you try it. ;)

  168. I’m all about ice cream! Mint chocolate chip is the best!

  169. My favorite is good old fashioned ice cream, Butter Pecan. I must say that the Maple Walnut sounds delish! These would happily fit into my freezer!

  173. I am an ice cream girl.

  174. I’m all about frozen yogurt! As delicious as ice cream can be, I often find it too sweet, and with a lingering heaviness. For me, frozen yogurt is just as delicious, but lighter and less over-the-top rich. Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

  175. I enjoy ice cream most often, but I think I actually like sorbet better. And I like frozen yogurt in the summertime, especially in a waffle cone with magic shell chocolate. Yum!

  179. Wow!! It would be so hard to choose which flavot to eat first. I love ice cream all the time!!

  180. I’m usually more concerned with good flavor, rather than what kind of frozen awesome it is. I had a lavender peppercorn sorbet that was just incredible, but I’ve had goat cheese and dried fruit frozen yogurt that was fantastic, and then sometime you just need a good ole bowl of coffee ice cream.
Do I really have to choose???

  188. Most definitely a frozen yogurt fan. I’ve never had Jeni’s, so that would be a treat (pun intended).

  189. Ice Cream year round for me…love anything with Chocolate or Peanut Butter or even better, together.
I’m hoping her Buckeye is just that combo.

  190. I-SCREAM-FOR-ICECREAM! Literally. Especially in the winter for some strange reason :-)

  191. When I’m really indulging, I’m all about the ice cream! But love fro-yo too.

  192. Definitely ice cream…. and pretty much anythig with caramel in it! :)

  193. Ice cream, all the way. I’d have to go with salted caramel..!

  194. I love frozen yogurt because you can make so many different combinations! But good frozen yogurt , not TCBY or as I call it This Can’t Be Yogurt.

  195. Almond joy ice cream from the Beach Plum in Rye, NH!

  196. We LOVE Jeni’s and I think I probably made more than 20 of her flavors when I first got her cookbook! It’s so hard to pick a favorite flavor of hers, but its either the Riesling Pear sorbet or possibly the sweet corn black raspberry ice cream she does during the summer. Kona Stout and Queen City Cayenne are fantastic as well though, and every other flavor I’ve tried :-)

  197. I love all types of frozen teats, especially if it has berries and dark chocolate.

  198. I love them all! I love ice cream the most. My favorite is chocolate and chocolate chip icecream

  199. My favorite frozen treat is any of the 3 in a waffle cone; two scopes if it is ice cream or sorbet.

  200. Frozen treats!! How can you pick JUST one!?! Wether it’s ice cream, sorbet or yogurt I’ve neer been able to turn ANY of them down!!! :0)
