Miette

IMG_8411

Last fall during the book tour, I visited a bunch of cupcake bakeries and sweet shops in just about every city I passed through. Miette was one of my favorites in San Francisco. If you get a chance, make sure to give them a visit.

They have two locations. One in the Ferry Building and one on Octavia Street. They also have one in Oakland and another opening later this year in Larkspur, California.

IMG_8390

In San Francisco, the one on Octavia Street is bigger than the Ferry building location, but both are just as cute as can be.

IMG_8401

I loved the colors and the display of sweets. So did Julie.

IMG_8320

Everywhere you turn are the cutest treats with adorable packaging.

IMG_8328

Lovely macarons.

IMG_8327

Panna Cotta and Pots de Creme.

IMG_8410

Little cakes.

IMG_8326

Lots of little cakes. Miette is known for their sweets of smaller scale.

These are all 6 inch cakes which makes them even more charming.

IMG_8395

And check out their cupcakes. Beautiful!

IMG_84111

Miette recently released a cookbook filled with recipes of their signature sweets.

Pretty awesome.

IMG_83901

And pretty cute. I love the scalloped pages.

IMG_8395

It ties in beautifully with the shop accents.

IMG_84011

See. Same cupcakes.

But that’s not all.

IMG_8402

Marshmallows. I must make some soon.

IMG_8393

Crackers and cookies.

IMG_8398

Tarts and tartlettes. I just want to sink my teeth right in. Forget the fork.

IMG_8404

Caramels.

And cakes.

I made the Tomboy Cake. So good. It’s made with chocolate and cocoa.

And I must say, it feels good to feel like baking again.

Here’s the Tomboy Cake Recipe straight from the book, courtesy of my and Miette’s publisher, Chronicle Books.

But that’s not all.

IMG_8380

This book is just so cute that I thought I’d give you guys a chance to win a copy.

And because most people don’t already own 6 X 3 inch pans, I’m giving away two straight and two contour pans so you can make all the little Miette cakes you want. I’m also including some tartlet pans in case you don’t have any of those handy either.

To enter for a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post and answer the following question.

  • What was the last cookbook you acquired or what is the next cookbook you can’t wait to get your hands on?
  • Deadline to enter is Tuesday, July 12 at 7:00 pm ET. Sorry, time’s up. Winner announced below.
  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Tuesday evening.

Good Luck!

Giveaway sponsored by me.

Okay, time to announce the winner of this cute little cookbook and petite pans.

  76. I am quite excited for Smitten Kitchen’s cookbook!

  77. I was just going to ask you how you were feeling, and your mom too. It is good, no awesome, to see you post.

But I have a funny answer to this question … the most recent cookbook I purchased was that one by Jerry Seinfeld’s wife, Jessica. Deceptively Delicious. It was deeply discounted so I couldn’t resist.

It is not the book but the reason I was impulsively moved to pick it up. I’ll try to make it a short story.

About 4 years ago, when my girls were 3 and 4 and in preschool, there was a child who’s mom fed him smoothies 3 times a day. The reason she fed him smoothies was to hide veggies in it.

My kids love smoothies, but I am not particularly inclined to make them and I won’t bribe them to eat anything. (They can go hungry or make alternate suggestions. I also encourage them to try stuff but don’t insist they eat anything they don’t like as my goal is to get them to trust the messages their bodies tell them. Their likes are fluid and change sometimes.) My kids also love many, many veggies and other foods, both normal and interesting. I’m lucky that way.

They thought it was amazingly awesome that this kid got SO MANY SMOOTHIES but knew there mom would not be making them that many. So, even at that young age, my daughter plotted. She started bugging me about, could we please please have a smoothie? You can put a vegetable in it! And she would rummage through the fridge for a new veggie to try in a smoothie. They still start with a veggie when they are trying to bribe their mom into

Long story somewhat shorter, I bought the book because I knew they would enjoy thumbing through it (they are entering grades two and three, and my boy is 4 years old) and trying to convince me that they should make a recipe because it has this or that vegetable in it. My eldest daughter has already tagged a couple and, as soon as we get back from holidays next week, we’ll be working our way through it!

Okay. I think I’ve written something longer in inches than your post! xox. Keep healing! We NEED you!!!
