Sweet Shops

Remember the other day when I showed you guys inside Miette? Well, as I was digging up those photos from last Fall when I was on the book tour, I found a bunch more sweet shops that I never showed you guys. Want to see? Be careful. You’ll want a cupcake or nine before you finish looking at them all.

IMG_6418

First stop on the book tour was Portland, Oregon. And it wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Voodoo Doughnut.

Love these logo-printed pink boxes.

IMG_6412

Check out their signature Voodoo doughnut.

IMG_6425

Yummm. They have fun flavors like Bacon Maple Bar, Grape Ape and even cereal covered doughnuts.

IMG_7092

Also in Portland is Saint Cupcake Deluxe.

IMG_7076

Their cupcakes were delicious and piled high with frosting.

IMG_7077

The shop was too cute for words with their adorable party supplies section. I had to have these paper cups. Although I haven’t been able to bring myself to use them yet.

IMG_7428

In Seattle, we have Cupcake Royale. Actually, there are five of them.
Cupcake Julie and I visited two of their locations.

Great sign.

IMG_7441

Great packaging. Love the tagline.

IMG_7440

And great tasting cupcakes with beautifully swirled frosting.

IMG_7485

Trophy Cupcakes is also in Seattle. They have three locations. Make sure you visit at least one of them. Trophy was on the Martha Stewart Show on the same day I was during Cupcake Week in 08. It was fun to finally see the shop in person.

IMG_7463

Look at that Peanut Butter Frosting. Yes, please.

IMG_7473

This is the Wallingford Center location. The awnings are fantastic.

IMG_7491

We grabbed a few cupcakes to sample.

IMG_7505

Then Julie and I had a cupcake showdown between the Seattle shops.

I think it was a draw since we weren’t comparing flavor to flavor, it was too tough to choose. They both had really yummy cupcakes.

IMG_7522

On to doughnuts at Frost just outside of Seattle.

IMG_7508

More traditional flavors than Voodoo… and that was just fine by me.

IMG_8306

Ice cream anyone?

Well, if you’re in San Francisco you really need to check out Bi-Rite Creamery.

IMG_8312

Get it by the scoop or take some home. This stuff is so good.

Brown Sugar with Ginger Caramel Swirl. Need I say more?

IMG_8411

You remember Miette, of course.

IMG_8396

Delightful little cakes and more.

IMG_8418

That Takes the Cake in San Francisco was a smaller shop, but big on flavor.

IMG_8416

I’ll take Peanut Butter cups on cake anytime.

IMG_8432

Right on Union Street in San Francisco is another sweet shop.

Pacific Puffs.

IMG_8427

All about cream puffs.

IMG_8429

Founded by two brothers making their mom’s recipe. Buff boys selling puffs. I’m sold.

IMG_8451

Wow, Julie and I really outdid ourselves in San Francisco.

Here’s another one. American Cupcake.

IMG_8439

FIlled with colorful little cakes …

IMG_8435

And some topped with cotton candy. So cute.

IMG_8472

Kara’s Cupcakes can be found in Ghiradelli Square in San Francisco.

IMG_8473

Modern. Beautiful. Delicious.

IMG_8475

And with such a sweet staff.

IMG_8975

After San Francisco, I met up with my mom in Los Angeles.

We stopped by Vanilla Bake Shop in Santa Monica.

You can’t miss this shop with it’s jumbo graphic awning.

IMG_8956

I see some pops.

IMG_8961

And sweet shots.

IMG_8968

Perty little cakes.

IMG_9035

Next up was Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverly Hills.

IMG_9029

A sweet group of girls greeted us.

IMG_9021

Their red velvet is one of my faves.

Untitled-1

Mom and I sat outside and enjoyed a few.

IMG_9289

In Salt Lake City, Utah we didn’t actually make it to any cupcake shops because of time, luckily I had a few folks bring some from the Sweet Tooth Fairy. Thanks Maria and friends.

IMG_9297

Yum.

IMG_9315

I mean YUM. We made quite the scene waiting for our plane at the airport and checking them all out.

IMG_9445

Wanna see more?

IMG_9448

Then check out More Cupcakes in Chicago.

They have a super cool way to display their cupcakes.

IMG_9480

Look at that frosting.

IMG_9705

Molly’s Cupcakes is also in Chicago.

IMG_9700

Peach Cobbler cupcakes anyone?

IMG_9708

This shop was jam-packed with a line out the door.

IMG_9732

And worth every bite. The one in front is called the Ron Bennington. Chocolate cake, peanut butter filling, chocolate ganache and butterscotch topping. Help.

IMG_2754

Unfortunately, in New York City, I only made it to one cupcake shop.

But, it’s one I would visit again and again.

Baked by Melissa makes teeniny cupcakes and serves them sans wrappers.

IMG_2746

Look at all of them. These little guys were surprisingly moist and yuuummmy. The only thing I would do differently next time is order more than six of these one bite wonders. Or two bite if you want to look like you have table manners.

Well that’s it. 17 shops in 8 cities. Hope you enjoyed looking at them as much as I did eating at them all.

  6. Also in redmond near seattle is a cupcake shop called pinkabella. It’s better than cupcakes royal. They actually have a few stores in the seattle area. You need to check them out.

  7. Was visiting my sis in Seattle and went to Frost– those are yummy donuts! My sister’s comment was you don’t even feel bad after you eat it! (meaning no greasy lump in the belly) drove by Cupcake Royale but alas did not have time to stop :(

  8. Wow what a fattening but mouth-watering trip, you should definitely go to Sweet in Boston, Massachusetts, I recommend the pink lemonade and strawberry shortcake. It’s decor is cute, and overall, this is a place you must visit!

  9. What a fun post! You have me thinking that the oatmeal raisin pecan cookies I *just* baked aren’t enough. ;) If you ever come to Charlotte, NC, I highly recommend Amelie’s, a French bakery. It’s worth the trip alone. Their Salted Caramel Brownie is an award-winner, but they have plenty of other yummies to try, too. But if you do come here, Polka Dot bakeshop is a favorite of ours, too. They are a cupcake shop, and their Lemon Raspberry is wonderful!!

  10. OOOO, Cupcakes!!! MMMMM. Try Retro Bakery in Las Vegas, Nevada!

  11. Cake Flour – Louisville, KY.
    Organic ingred and DELICOUS!

  12. Response to Leah (post #86)… Georgetown Cupcake is AMAZING. I went to Georgetown and the saddest part about graduation day was leaving that bakery behind.

Other hot spots to hit are Baked and Wired in DC, just a few blocks away from G-town Cupcake; CakeLove on U Street in DC; Billy’s Bakery in NYC; & Magnolia in NYC!

  13. Next time you’re in NYC, Go to Dekalb mall in Brooklyn for some Robiceli’s cupcakes. You will not regret it.

  14. Too bad I didn’t come to the Salt Lake signing – I would have brought you Temptation Cupcakes! I am SO ECSTATIC they’re yummy, cause they’re the only cupcakery in Logan!

  15. Hi, Angie! Im so happy to hear you´re doing better.
So, I live in Brazil and cupcakes became quite the mania around here. Well, but what Im super curious about is how the bake such tiny cupcakes at Baked by Melissa. Did they have a special baking trays made for that…cause it would be a sensation here too and Id love to make them tiny like that.

  16. all those cupcake shops look amazing!! i heard theres a really good one in New York called Doughnut Plant… im planning to go in December.

In my hometown Miami, Florida the best one is Misha’s Cupcakes

  17. oh my! i’ve just added a few more cupcake joints to my bucket list…i’d love to go to trophy + saint cupcake. had a great cupcake in nyc at the cupcake truck, cake + shake and also a good cupcake at bleeding heart bakery in chicago. would love to visit miette’s next year! thanks for doing a cupcake roundup!

  18. I love Voodoo Doughnuts’ maple bacon bar! I was inspired to create Maple Bacon Cake Pop after my last trip to Portland! http://thedomesticated.com/2011/08/15/maple-bacon-cake-pops/

  19. I’m not much of a baker, but I love your blog! Everything you post looks so amazing!

If you ever find yourself in the Houston, TX area, there’s a small dessert shop just outside of it called Ooh La La Dessert Boutique. They’ve been voted to have the best cupcakes in Houston, and the other treats there are delicious, too.

    http://www.oohlalasweets.com/

  20. Gosh…. These photos make me soooo hungry! :)

  21. You should check out Cake and all things Yummy in Kernersville, NC. OMG Their White Chocolate Almond is amazing. The kids love the the Peanut butter chocolate. I mean I’m not a yellow cake white icing person, but WOW! I even devour those too. We just moved and I miss them soooo much. We just tried a local cupcake shop and needless to say I won’t be back. :( I can’t wait for Christmas vacation to go to Cake and all things Yummy!

  22. If you want some seriously fabulous cupcakes, you must visit Susie Cakes! There are several CA locations, but my fav is Newport Beach. It’s just like heaven.

  23. In Seattle: Top Pot donuts! (on/near Broadway in Capitol Hill) and also Molly Moons ice cream. I love French bakeries so I would recommend the ones in Pike Place!

  24. In Seattle:
Bakery Nouveau does, well, everything except cupcakes.
For ice-cream most people go for Molly Moons, but the one to find is Bluebird up on Capitol Hill. The best, and you can get a beer float.

    In New York:
One place to try is Jane’s Sweet Buns, a cocktail themed sticky bun place.

  25. If you ever make it to Boston, you should definitely check out Sweet Cupcakes. They have 4 locations – Newbury St, Harvard Sq, Mass Ave and Downtown Crossing. SUCH good cupcakes. They have seasonal cupcakes on top of their daily flavors so in summer there’s lemon raspberry, strawberry shortcake, pina colada, etc. In the fall there’s pancake and pumpkin and there are just too many to list. Seriously. Such a great place and I guarantee you won’t regret it.

On another note, I’m happy to hear that you’re feeling better.

  26. I made sure my husband and I hit VooDoo in Portland~ for my sake. After I realized they only take cash, I ended up with a single doughnut… which I ate after my hubby almost got crushed by a bus, and while we got lost trying to get out of Portland. But it was one excellent doughnut!!!! The husband just rolled his eyes.

  27. Thanks for sharing all of the info and photos. Cupcakes for breakfast anyone? If you’re ever in Buffalo NY be sure to visit Delish Pastry Shop in the Elmwood neighborhood. Their fairy cakes are amazing!

  28. The pictures are making my mouth water!

The SF Bay Area has a cupcake truck called “CupKates Bakery.” http://cupkatesbakery.com/ They’re based in Berkeley, but they’ll go to SF on the weekends. They catered for my wedding and everyone loved Kate’s cupcakes!

  29. Molly’s Cupcakes is also open in NYC, as of 8/7..they are the absolute best!

  30. Bakerella, I’m SO glad you included Voodoo Donuts – It’s part of Portland’s quirky fun! Next time you come, try Cupcake Jones or the Sweetest Thing. The Sweetest Thing makes a chocolate cupcake with lavender frosting. Totally creative!

  31. Bi-rite is so amazing. I just went today! Salted caramel is the only reason i go there. Yum!

  32. Wow, I need to get me over to the other side of the big water! ;D So I can taste these wonderful looking Cupcakes, Donuts, Ice cream, etc.

    Greetings from Germany,
    Verena

  33. I have been to trophy and it is amazing! I live in tacoma so it i not a long drive.

  34. Is that your MOM??? Wow!!! She looks like your sister!! :)

  35. I just about died and gone to heaven looking at all those AWESOME photos. OH WHY OH WHY am I in Singapore- land of boring donuts???

Oh and your mom and you look like sisters!! She looks great!

  36. So. Very. Cruel. But i can’t stay mad when you are so sweet :) Now i need to convince myself i don’t need to go to Frost tomorrow (or Top Pot!)

  37. My fave in Chicago is the Bleeding Heart Bakery…the Veruca Salt cupcake and the Lemon Lavender cupcake are so delish!
And if you get to Orlando FL you’ve got to get any flavor of cupcake from the Yum Yum Cupcake Food Truck. I swoon for the Orange Cream Dream and the Key Slime :-)

  38. i went to molly’s on a recent trip to chicago and it was amazing! love seeing all the places you’ve been!

  39. What an amazing post!!! The next time you’re in NYC, you should stop by Magonlia Bakery near Radio City. The buttercream frosting is simply delicious and the cupcakes are lovely.

  40. Pacific Puffs!!!! They have the best cream puffs I’ve ever eaten. And they’re both so nice and easy to talk to.

Slthough I’m happy you got picture of one of the hot brothers (the married one), I’m a little bummed you didn’t get a picture of the other. I may or may not have had a little crush on him. ;) They’re definitely two good looking brothers that can make a mean cream puff.

  41. Greetings from the Amish community of Lebanon,Pa. Richard from Amish Stories.

  42. Oh my goodness! I’m in Portland now on vacation and went to both those places before reading your blog! They were delicious and super cute! Also, I’m from Chicago and Molly’s is definitely my favorite cupcake place, glad to know we have the same tastes!

  43. NOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!

Sorry, had to get that out.

All these cupcake… so tasty-looking and delicious. WANT.

  44. Thanks for sharing cupcake shop locations for the Seattle area! It’s sometimes hard to find a good place to snack!

  45. Wow, that must have been fantastic sampling all those goodies! I love the “does a booty good”! Ha! All those cupcakes might do my booty good, but it’s not helping my muffin top.

  46. The best cupcakes I have ever had are just out side of Nashville at IVEYCAKE. Beyond good, with fluffy cake frosting that is creamy and delish! I love “the boss” the best, it is almost like a Boston cream pie cupcake with a soft cake. I live outside of Chicago and BEG people who go to Nashville to bring me some back.

  47. Woops I meant Ici sorry

  48. Bakerella! If you’re in the Berkeley area of norcal you should try Icy! :)

  49. Wow, the photos are gorgeous! In general I very much like cupcake and sweets decoration in its varieties, but your photos are a selection of the best I have seen, especially in the combination, looks great, thanks!

  50. These shops have Fabulous names some of them – i love the concept of the Voodoo place!
And your comment ” Buff boys selling puffs. ” Love it. <3

  51. O MY goodness, gracious. You had me at Maple bacon doughnuts, but then you showed the eye candy (Buff boy). And the cupcake carnage.. Thanks for starting my day off just right.
So happy you are getting back in the swing of things. And loved the pic of your Mama. Thank you, Bakerella’s Mama for your wonderful gift.

    Debra Ganas

  52. thanx for sharing these with us………and for making me ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hungry lo yum yum yum

  53. So glad you made it to VooDoo!!! Did you notice the sign on the bottom of the Saint Cupcake box??

  54. I don’t know if you’re ever in the area (and you may have already been there or at least heard of it) but, Brown Betty in Philadelphia has THE BEST red velvet cupcake. To die for! If you’re ever in the area, seek them out like a heat-guided missile. ;)

  55. I love your blog…the pictures are amazing and I’ve even tried a few of your recipes including Mickey Mouse cakepops for my nephew’s first birthday. Thanks for what you do!!

  56. Great post! I adore your photography and storytelling. This one was especially fun, as I have also enjoyed Voodoo, Sprinkles, Kara’s, and Cupcake Royale. I totally miss Voodoo…have not found a SF replacement yet!

  57. WOW – I love the picture of the devoured cupcakes – its like cupcake carnage!

And how cute are all the mini cupcakes – oh my gosh they must be quite fiddly to make, and to keep moist as they’re so small – I’m impressed!

  58. A shout out to the Husky Deli in West Seattle…
to. die. for. coconut and licorice ice cream flavors.
    Divine combined!!

  59. Wow!!! First of all, your mom looks just like you. Second of all, I went to that exact Trophy’s cupcakes in Seattle! I saw a groupon… 1 dozen cupcakes for 16 dollars. I just had to do it. I loved the carrot cake cupcake. Oldie but goodie. I’ve never been to Voodoo, but I have always wanted to go. Next time I’m in Portland, for sure! Thanks for posting these… I am going to go eat a cinnamon roll now, I’m craving something sweet!

  60. I was curious if you checked out anything in Philadelphia when you were here? They are some fantastic places here :)

  61. How nice it was to see the cupcake shops we frequented over the past year like More, Sprinkles and Kara’s.

I’d have to recommend Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique in Chicago in the winter for their Hot Chocolate cupcake. Also liked Sift in Napa, CA. Bent Fork Bakery in northern burbs of Chicago (Highland) is worth the trip as well. (They chill theirs though so call ahead & place an order to thaw or eat them later. Or drive around the neighborhoods on a John Hughes movie location tour and let them thaw in the backseat!)

  62. Hi!! I love all of your photos SO much! I work at a small (more like tiny) cupcake shop in Naperville, IL (Sugar Monkey Cupcakes-like the name drop? :) but it looks nothing like these amazing places. I have been to MORE cupcakes in the city but that is the only one I have been to so far. I guess when I am working with cupcakes all day, venturing outside my cupcake box is hard to do. Well, thank you for adding the pictures, I look forward to every new post!! :)

  63. I agree with the above…it’s too bad you missed Cupcake Jones in Portland!! After visiting every bakery in the city my girlfriend and I decided that if stranded on a desert island we would take their cupcakes exclusively ! ! They’re FANTASTIC!

  64. If your ever around these areas check out The Cocoa Bean-cupcake cafe they have locations in Provo, UT and Rexburg & Idaho Falls, ID. There Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake is to.die.for.

  65. You need to visit Sugerland in Chapel Hill! It was on Food Network pretty recently!

  66. I love this collection! Saint Cupcake is one of my favorite sweet shops

  67. “Buff boys selling puffs”. HA HA HA HA! They should consider making that their tagline!

  68. Are you kidding me? NOT fair!

  69. The boys from Pacific Puffs played basketball for my husband while in high school. What a pleasant surprise to see their faces on your blog. If their puffs are as sweet as they are, everyone needs to go by while in SF and say Coach K sent them!

  70. There’s a cute little cupcake place in Lawrence, Kansas called, “Cupcake Construction Company”. They’re small but mighty! & they even have “minis’…tiny cupcakes in addition to the regular sized ones…it’s set up so you can choose your cupcake, filling, frosting and topping & is so much fun and delish! Love it!

  71. wow! I think I need to go on an eating tour..they all look so delicious!

  72. The Sweet Tooth Fairy is the best!!!!

  73. CRUMBS in NYC! I ship them where I live for a very high fee just to share these fantastic cupcakes!

  74. Oh wow, I really want a cupcake NOW! The chocolate one with peanut butter frosting and a peanut butter cup on top. I think I gained ten pounds just reading this post!

  75. Nadia Cakes in Lancaster, CA is wonderful! http://www.nadiacakes.com/

Also, Hello Cupcake in Dupont Circle, DC. http://www.hellocupcakeonline.com/ Yumm…

  76. So many amazing places! Everything looks so delicious.

  77. My daughter lives in Eugene where there is another voodoo doughnut! I will be visiting there soon, and that is on our list of things to do! (other than take care of her two boys while she recuperates from having her third!)
On another note, I will be in SF this weekend, celebrating my birthday (and going to Muir Woods) – I will have to hit up one of those sweet shops! Thanks!
I’m so glad you are blogging again and doing well! :)

  78. That’s a TON of shops! I live in Montana and I’ve only seen 1 and it’s new :(
Montana is like, 10 years behind on trends.

  79. I’m so jealous! I love cupcakes!

  80. yup, should have followed your advice and got some cupcakes/milk before seeing this food porn… thanks for sharing these photos, really good way to start out my morning :)

  81. if you’re ever in Richmond, VA, you must try out Pearl’s Cupcake Shoppe. their cupcakes are sooooo delicious!!! Definitely the best in the Richmond area.

  82. Love it! I was in Seattle and Chicago a few months ago. I saw a few of those shops but wouldn’t dare to go in there b/c i had a bridesmaid dress to fit in ;).
If you ever visit Tallahassee, Florida you should defintiely check out The cake shop (http://tallycakeshop.com) . I would recommend that place for sure. Heck if you come into town give me a shout I’ll even meet you there to have a bite or two. I would love you meet you and have you inspire me some more!

  83. Oh My GOSH!
I can’t believe you have soooo many different sorts of cakes shops in the US! We defiantly don’t have them in Bristol UK, I know I’d have found them!

It’s lunch time here and I’m so hungery for cupckaes!

    Lenka xx

  84. aaaaaccckk!! you have saved my brain from melting!!!

Way back when, DH and I were at That Takes the Cake (yummy and super nice owner!) one day and decided to stop by on a whim to a puff place. We never been to a puff place like that!!! Oh, goodness. It was like eating ice cream. Soooo so delicious. And that was the end of the story. Until now, Pacific Puffs!!

Thank you!! I am so happy to see that you’re doing better!!!

  85. Yum…yum…yum. Gasp! I live a smidge north of Seattle and I haven’t been to ANY of these – shame on me! (And Frost groupons keep popping up. What am I thinking?!)

  86. Ah shucks! When you were in Los Angeles to try Sprinkles and Vanilla Bake Shop….you should of tried HOTCAKES! May sounds like a pancake house…but it’s HEAVEN in a cupcake. Not too many people know about it because it’s hidden. But it’s a MUST TRY!

  87. My mouth was watering during this whole post! I’m so lucky i live near San Francisco!

  88. Hope you and your mom are feeling well :) thanks for sharing these mouth-watering delights. I saw Voodoo Doughnuts on Food Network and have been mesmerized ever since. Can’t wait to dig into some deliciousness, soon :D

  89. What a SWEET post! It is not helping me with my current craving for a sweet baked treat. Everything looked fabulous!

  90. Definitely check out Billy’s Bakery in NYC (www.billysbakerynyc.com)

Their banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting are amazing!

  91. Oh my Goodness…..I would love to go to Molly’s Cupcakes!

If you’re ever in the Maryland/DC area, you must try Georgetown Cupcakes and Lilly Magillies. Delish and almost too cute to eat.

  92. Yum!! My mouth is watering!

****if your ever in Omaha Nebraska be sure to check out JONES bros CUPCAKES they were the runners up on the show “Cupcake Wars” …best cupcakes I have ever tasted!

  93. If you are ever in Sacramento you MUST try Cupcake Craving. It is so amazing, that I buy cupcakes there and bring them home with me on the plane:)

  94. I LOVE desserts, but I didn’t realize just how much until I realized I’ve been to almost every place on this list. So funny!

  95. I wish I’d known you were at Frost. I’m 5 minutes away & would have loved to buy you a donut. I am glad, however, you were able to try some of the best donuts on the planet!!! :)

  96. Fantastic, mouth-watering, colorful, fun filled photos! My favorites: the “cupcake carnage,” the buff boys, and spotting my favorite red velvet ever from Sprinkles in LA. I noticed somebody recommended Porto’s – I live down the street and frequent it often – what’s most outstanding about it is the price/quality ratio. Thanks for sharing!

  97. You need to check out Nothing Bundt Cakes with locations all over the place! But I’ve been to the one in Fort Worth.

  98. So nice to see you and your mom up and around and enjoying life, Angie…..blessings!

  99. New York Cupcakes in Bellevue, Wa. is fantastic too. I live in Eugene and we have a great vegan cupcake place called The Divine Cupcake. I’m normally not a fan of things that don’t include meat or a lot of butter, but their cupcakes are pretty good. We get voodoo donuts all the time (also in Eugene), but I much prefer Frost Donuts in Mill Creek.

  100. Do you have any idea how bad I want a cupcake after seeing these pictures? ;-) You must have had a great time visiting all these places!

  101. Next time you’re in NY…travel to downtown Brooklyn. My brother introduced me to this gem when he lived in the neighborhood.

    http://www.downtownatlantic.com/

They serve food as well but people go there for their softball sized cupcakes that can easily serve 4 if anyone wants to share ;-) They are so darn good!

  102. If you are ever in our great city of Houston, TX, you simply must try Crave Cupcakes! They are the best!

  103. Um, yeah. Serious dessert envy over here. I want to go to ALL of those spots. Guess I need to write a book so I can go on my own book tour! Any recommendations for Philadelphia? I’m going there shortly!

  104. You hit my two favorites in Chicago!!!! Last night, I was actually yelping about a cupcake bakery and my advice at the end was to go to More or Molly’s!

Next time you’re in Chicago, you should check out Vanille Patisserie (a French pastry shop offering cakes, mousse cakes, tarts, and chocolates and famous for their macaroons) and the Doughnut Vault (a cute but super small doughnut shop with lines out the door every morning — they tweet to let you know what they have and how long the line is until they are sold out!)

Thanks for the recommendations outside of Chicago!

  105. When you’re in Salt Lake City again, you need to visit Mrs. Backer’s Bakery! So delicious.

  106. Wow. I’ll take one of everything (plus possibly a side of Cream Puff Boy- rowr.)

  107. I want to travel with you! Who knew there was another person who can eat as much sugar as me!!!

  108. Great picks. I love Cupcake Royale. Next time you are in Seattle area you should check out Pinkabella Cupcakes. An old friend of mine from Junior High opened them up and are really cute.

    http://www.pinkabellacupcakes.com

  109. It’s 9 AM and I want cupcakes! All of these shops are adorable!

  110. You have to check out Dolcissimo Cupcakes in Chino Hills, CA. http://www.dolcissimobakeshop.com/ I love their Maple Nut cupcake.

  111. This could not have come at a better time! I’m heading out west to Portland and Seattle in less than two weeks and I was hoping to find some great places to go for delicious desserts. Now I have lots of options – so difficult to choose! Thanks for sharing! :-)

  112. Wow what a fun time you must have had and some beautiful shops. They’re all so colorful. I’ll bet it was tough to choose a favorite.

  113. Wow, they all look delicious! I was also just wondering, what is your opinion of Georgetown Cupcake and Carlo’s Bakery, both of TLC. I am not sure if you have been there, but if you had, I would love to hear your opinion!

  114. LOOOOOVE Melissa’s (those evil little things!).
fyi – they ship and they come yummy!
Great to see that you’re feeling good!!! xo

  115. Cleveland: Tremont’s A Cookie and a Cupcake! I had the PB Lovers, and it was soooooooooo good!!!
    http://acookieandacupcake.com/1_cupcakes.shtml

  116. Thank you so nice to see all the places , Your mum looks so cute ! and you look so alike . Nice to see you both doing so well .
Now i have a cup cake tour to do when i come to the US yay!

  117. What a lovely roundup of places! I’ve been to all of the SF ones, (when visiting dear sis, we did the cupcake tour) and now I know where to go for al the other cities.

    Fabulous!

  118. btw, why haven’t you got your own show on Food Network, cupcake showdown – love it!! x

  119. And around Miami?? Thanks!! Kiss :)

  120. Delicious post! Great to have you back enjoying life to the full!! Hope you and your mum are keeping well x x x

  121. Loved seeing your angel mom by your side. You are both blessed to have each other, I can tell. :)

  122. Oh i’m so glad i’m in Australia, my waist line would be ever expanding with these lovelies close at hand! Hmm now i want to make some lol

  123. You have not truly had a cupcake until you have tried Auntie Em’s Kitchen in Los Angeles. At Auntie Em’s, instead of creating a few okay cupcakes, they focused their energy on four fantastic ones. I have been there tons of times, and each time their cupcakes have lived up to expectation. You HAVE to try them next time you come out here.

  124. Next time you’re in Los Angeles, I recommend Porto’s Bakery. They don’t have a ton of cupcakes, but their cakes and pastries are amazing. They also serve really good cuban food and coffee. Yummy!

  125. i wanna go see the buff boys! what a cutie!

  126. Yay for Portland!!! I love Voodoo so much!!! So excited to see them in your post… This was a really great post btw!! Can’t wait till my friend and I open our bakery so you can visit us too!!! Hope you and you’re mom are doing well!!!

  127. I need to go on a road trip!

  128. I made these and they were great. I used Double Stuffed and Mint Oreos, still not sure which one I like better. I did have one issue with the recipe. You said it made 12. I beg to differ since I doubled the recipe and am now the proud owner of 24 cupcakes and a 9×9 pan of cake since I didn’t know what else to do and couldn’t throw out that much batter.

  129. (Just reread that the photos are from last fall. Still, it’s seeing you two lovely ladies!)

  130. MAN! I got so excited when I saw you hit both Trophy and Cupcake Royale and was looking forward to your verdict. It’s a *huge* Seattle controversy, you know! Doesn’t look like you were at Trophy on S’more day (So killer, killer, killer good) but that’s what they made for Martha, so maybe you got a sample :)

Nice to see you and your mom looking so happy and healthy!

  131. So many beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing! If you are ever in Austin, Round Rock Donuts is delicious and a must-do. You also should visit Hey Cupcake! and have the red velvet cupcake piled high with delicious cream cheese frosting. If you go in the fall they have a pumpkin cupcake that is to die for. What could be more fun than sampling cupcakes purchased from a vintage airstream trailer that overlooks downtown Austin!

  132. I may have to go to Kara’s soon! So glad they are near me (the Peninsula shop) I love their cupcakes.

  133. Yum! I need somethng sweet NOW!!! Everything looked so beautiful and tasty! :)

  134. I love this post!!!! I picked the wrong time to give up sugar!!! :)

  135. Mmm now I have a cupcake hankering! I may just have to make my own because it’s already 9 PM! I will definitely have to check some of those out when I’m in the area, though!

  136. Thanks for the tour of sweets! I’m fortunate enough to live in the Seattle area and love our sweets here :) Thanks so much for sharing! It was great seeing a pic of your mommy :)

  138. Yeah for Portland. VooDoo donuts is so fun and has such crazy great donuts. mmm, St. Cupcake, we had the mini’s for our wedding. I can tell you, we didn’t have any left :) I’m sorry I missed your visit to Portland. Love your book.

  139. Wow! I have never seen so many cupcakes in one post!

  140. I need to try all the places in Seattle since I am so close. Anyone know any great places near Nashville or Memphis? I’m headed there in 3 weeks! :)

  141. Your Mom is so cute! You look very much like her,

  142. I’ll take one of each please…( they are small…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.)…and buff boys cream puffs….mmmm cream puffs!
    lol

  143. We have a cupcake place here in Long Beach called Frosted Cupcakery. They also have a 2nd location in Hollywood. They have the yummiest cupcakes- red hot is my favorite. White cake with cinnamon frosting. They also do something cool where they arrange to have fantastic food trucks come to the store. You can pick up a great dinner and dessert all at one time!

  144. You missed Pix Patisserie in Portland. My fave sweet spot.

  145. You have to have tried Cupcake Jones and Two Tarts bakery in portland. Two Tarts, I swear, has the most delicous cupcakes, cookies, shortbreads and macarons i have ever tasted.

  146. loved this post! i worked at saint cupcake for almost 2 years, best job ever! they recently opened a new location downtown, and they offer a lot of different treats… even something called a bonbonbunbun. think brioche, brushed with melted butter, tossed in sugar and spices! yum. loved all the pics, feeling inspired! thank you!

  147. Orem has Cupcake Chic and they are awesome! Your mom is gorgeous by the way! Glad you’re doing better

  148. Kara’s is my absolute favorite. So sad I don’t live in CA anymore. If you’re ever in Dallas, go to Yummy Donuts. So good!!!

  150. Oh my, I love all of the packaging! This all looks like heaven.

  152. I wanna zombie doughnut. But seriously, they all look great. There is a place in NYC called the donut plant(I think) who also make funky doughnuts.

  153. I know it isn’t a shop, but if you make it to Boston please let me know. I am hoping to someday open my own ice cream place and would love to have someone outside of friends and family try my ice creamy wares. (I do promise it is good!)

  154. Wow. I got a stomach ache just looking at it all. They all look delicious

  155. So in Las Vegas-Retro Bakery! They make the most delicious cupcakes I have ever eaten. My hubby and I will use anything as an excuse to get a cupcake-or a dozen!! They have a website too! Plus, the staff is amazing!

  156. Oh my… sigh… this is too much! Thanks for sharing….

  157. How fun! I particularly loved miette up in the bay area!

If you ever make it down to san diego, I’d love to treat you to some of my cakes at jennywennycakes! I dont have a shop but I make custom cakes and cupcakes and always love to see smiling faces!

  158. Ohmygosh!!! This is like my DREAM trip!!! Did a bakery hop of Santa Monica one year with my mom, we had the best time.Let me know if you do a tour of the south, Sucre in New Orleans is unbelieveable, and Baked in Charleston is amazing! Here in LA we have a cupcake TRUCK, lol! Cupcakes a Go-Go. :) I haven’t had a chance to review it for the blog yet though. Will get there SOON. Thanks for this amazing guide, they are all going in my little black book. :)

  159. My cousin got married at the Voo Doo Doughnut Shop in Portland on 1-11-11. How fun that you included it!

  160. Cupcake Royale is one of my FAVORITES! My husband works across the street and I go there while I wait for him to get off work! :) Also, they are pretty great about giving local artists space on their walls.

Can’t believe you missed Magnolia Bakery in NYC!! In the heart of the West Village – always a line around the corner. They have the world’s best Red Velvet cupcakes!! I had a friend fly a dozen back from NYC to Seattle JUST FOR ME! :) (well, and my co-workers! hehe)

  161. Wow! Everything looks so yummy! Great photos! :)

  162. So good to see both you and your Mom doing so well, hugs to you both. You deserve to enjoy the sweet things in life :-)

  163. I live in Portland, so I was thrilled to see a shout out! :o)

  164. …OMGosh, THAT is your MOM?!! She could be your sister! She’s like you – adorable! ;o)

…Thank you so much for the tour! I loved it! And now I want cupcakes. Really bad. *sigh*

…That would be my kind of road trip, going around city to city eating cupcakes with reckless abandon. Lucky, lucky girl. ;o)

…Think of you often and hope you are doing well!

    …Blessings :o)

  165. Also, next time you’re in Seattle, you should try Mighty-O Donuts. The french toast is to die for!

  166. You need to come back to Portland to see VooDoo’s new store front. It’s even better now! (Though I do miss the pre-fame days where I didn’t have to wait in line for 20 minutes!)

  167. Wow all of those photos look so tasty!

  168. Wow! That’s really impressive, the fact that you were able to visit so many places AND get such great photos of all of them. Beautiful!

  169. I love this post. But I love all your posts. This one made me drool! The only place I have been from your list is Sprinkles. Very yummy!

  170. OMG. ANGIE I love reading your blog, your pictures are amazing… I So want to have my own bakery :) Your photos inspire me more and more to reach that goal…. Your such an amazing lady. I so adore your site. If I ever Open my own cupcake shop I so want you there. The name Docerela was inspired by your site name. Thank you for posting your delicious photos. I so want a cupcake now.

  171. I’m so blessed to have this sweetness in my life! God bless you Bakerella!

  172. I saw Voo Doo Donuts on TV! It’s on my bucket list! :)

  173. I just got back from D.C last month, and I did the cupcake tour.
Crumbs was not my fave, as they ship them from NYC.
Georgetown had the BEST cream cheese frosting I have EVER EATEN in my life! So fluffy and OMG!
Baked & Wired was recommended 10x over, but I found that they were too “muffin” like.

sticky Fingers is entirely VEGAN and TO DIE FOR! They have been on cupcake wars, as well. THEY ROCK!

As for other recommendations: Toronto’s: For the Love of Cake’s mancake- Guiness Chocolate stout! A chocolate cupcake with a whiskey ganache (UNBELIEVABLE!) and a Chocolate Frosting. MMM.

  174. Ang, please come here to Cincinnati, OH- Greaters Ice Cream and Take the Cake- Yum and Yum!

  175. I NEED some cupcakes!!

  176. Yeah! Go Portland!! I LOVE Voodoo Doughnut and
Saint Cupcake Deluxe…my 2 favorite places.

  177. Those cupcakes all look fantastic! Do you know of any cupcake shops in Binghamton, NY?

  178. Sweetness overload!!!! But in a really good way! I’ve been to Kara’a in the past and I took a trip to Portland last week and visited Voodoo Doughnuts, my husband made me bring some home. They survived a 9 hr car ride!

  179. Oh man. I really do want nine cupcakes.

  180. OMG you made it to Mill Creek (Frost)!

That one’s walking distance from my house, and even more dangerous, within sight of Top Pot Doughnuts too – so it’s always decision time which one we will head to.

Even walking there and back doesn’t work off the calories from an Aztec Chocolate donut however, so I have to limit my visits to just every so often :(

  181. Dawn – Oh I remember we really wanted to try Yellow Leaf. Heard good things. We just ran out of time. Must go back.

Michelle – My mom would be hugging you right now. Thanks.

Ashley and Katie – Thanks for the tips. Investigating Baked and Wired now.

  182. … i think I feel full already – maybe not!! Oh I wish we had that sort of selection in the UK. Perhaps I should open a shop…..

  183. VooDoo donuts is my favorite place ever!!!!

  184. Sugar Queen Cupcakes in Plano TX (just outside of TX). Super moist – best ever! Even better than Sprinkles.

  185. Wish you had time to try Cupcakes Jones in Portland too. Far superior to Saint Cupcake in my opinion! Also, totally agree that you need to try Baked and Wired in DC. They’re my #1 cupcake place!

  186. Washington DC! You need to go to Crumbs, Baked and Wired, Sprinkles, Sticky Fingers, and Georgetown Cupcake.

  187. YUM YUM YUM! Everything looks so perfect! And now, I really want to try a maple bacon donut.

  188. Holy crap, Angie…when you said your mom was giving you a kidney I pictured a much older woman…dang…your mom looks good! And what a great smile she’s got. So awesome to see her after hearing about her. And about the cupcakes…I could hear myself getting fatter the more I scrolled…thanks for that *giggles*

  189. this post looks amazing. i bet you guys had a fun time tasting all the sweets!

  190. You’ve certainly covered the basics!

The next time you’re in Seattle, hit up Yellow Leaf Cupcakes (Belltown, just north of Downtown Seattle).

And the next time you’re in San Francisco, go to Ici for ice cream.

  191. Looks like you had an AMAZING time. Sooooooo jealous!!! I loves your posts… Keep em’ comin’ <3

  192. So desperately want cotton candy cupcakes!! My favourite things all wrapped up and topped with icing! Could life get any better?? Well, maybe cotton candy cakepops! could you work on that? Love you!

  193. I want a Voodoo doughnut now

  194. Excellent! I’m headed to Portland and San Francisco in the coming months, so I’ll have to try at least one of these places in each city. VooDoo Donuts is calling my name, though. :) I LOVE the cupcakes that have cotton candy on top! So creative.

  195. OMG!!! I need to bake NOW!! Must. Have. CUPCAKES!! I am SOOO jealous!

  196. Oh. my. goodness. It’s almost lunchtime and I think I know what I’m having! Thanks for putting all of these together — these pictures (and cupcakes) are AMAZING!
