Butterfly cupcakes and some fun news

Butterfly-cupcakes

Is it too early for spring? I hope not because I want to tell you about these cute butterfly cupcakes.

candy

They’re decorated with candy coating and a little creativity.

I’m sure you guys know I keep a lot of candy coating around for cake pops. But I also like to use it in plastic molds to easily make shapes for decoration.

Recently, I made mini chocolates with different candy coating colors and square candy molds. But don’t think you always have to buy a candy mold when you want to make shapes with coatings. An everyday item can do the trick just as well. Remember way back when I made these puppy pops using plastic spoons for puppy dog ears?

Well, I thought it would be fun to use that same concept again, but this time, using the candy as the main attraction for butterfly wings.

Oh, but I guess I should tell you. I didn’t create these for the blog and I don’t have the how-to listed below.

I know. That’s mean. I’m sorry to tease like that, but I just wanted to give you a heads up about something new.

These cupcakes are for the April issue of Woman’s Day on stands now. And I’m so excited about it.

See. Yep. That’s my little head up there.

And look under contributing editors. Umm. Angie? I guess that’s me and it feels really strange to be listed – but I couldn’t be more honored and thrilled.

So if you subscribe to Woman’s Day magazine, be warned – you might see me pop up in an issue from time to time throughout the year.

photo

Hi. Yeah – this is kinda crazy. And fun. And just another part of this wild adventure that blogging and baking has taken me on.

Hope you guys like the cupcakes.

And now – I think I need to go make this pasta.

  2. Such a cute Butterfly!

  3. You should of posted how to make them on here.

  4. Todos son muy grandioso

  5. I made these for my daughter’s Spring Picnic bake sale. I am not a huge fan of butter frosting so I made a vream cheese lemon frosting. It was SO GOOD!

  6. These are adorable!

  7. You should go on Cupcake Wars! I have been following your website for years and am so impressed with your creativity and talent.

After a disastrous attempt to make cake balls using homemade cake, we bought one of your Cake Pop kits and Barnes and Nobles. SOOO much better when I followed your instructions (box cake and frosting, only 3/4 can).

Thanks so much for sharing your creativity.

  8. Congratulations!! I tried these butterflies but they wouldn’t come out of the spoon. Is there anyway you can make a video tutorial for this? This would have been perfect for our Easter party but I ended up using plain sprinkles =(

  9. just picked up your book last nite at my son’s book fair, I was so surprised to see it there I couldnt resist, love love love it! ty for all the great ideas you have :)

  15. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You definitely know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting videos to your weblog when you could be giving us something informative to read?

  16. I made these butterfly decorations for a cake I was making..love them, HOWEVER I live in Florida and leaving the candy to harden and remove off spoon did not work..they all fell apart! I put them in refigerator and then they easily came out of spoon…I think this should have been put in directions. Thank you for al your wonderful ideas..Love Bakerella!

  18. I really just found you from my Woman’s Day…but I bake all of the time. My husband is in the Navy and I send the baked goodies off to work with him. I have never been to your site before, but it is amazing. I have never seen your cake pops, but I am just wanting to know how to make them. They would be a great one bite treat, just the kind of thing they ask me to make. Your site is very inspiring.

  29. Hi, Angie! If anyone ever posted this, I missed it – its wikipedia’s definition:
“Bakerella is genus of sixteen showy mistletoe species in Madagascar and the Mascarenes. The genus was described by the Belgian botanist Simone Balle in Flora de Madagascar,[1] 1964. In some parts of Madagascar they are an important food source for lemurs.”
While I’d love to go to Madagascar someday, I’m quite happy visiting you, who I feel is the REAL Bakerella!

Normally, I’m not a baker – but I AM a designer & (very) ametur photography (with a mild addiction to iPhone camera apps, but I digress…) so I snapped a shot of myself, right after I opened your e-mail, today, to see the picture of these delightful, sunny creations. And I even posted it on my Flickr site (via Instagram) as a precursor to pinning your grand news & my slightly embarrassing mugshot…or, since this is cupcakes, would that be CUPshot? ;) Gratz on the news, couldn’t happen to a nicer baker :D
