Wedding Cake Pops

Wedding Cake Pops

I’ve received a ton of requests for wedding cake pops so I thought today would be a good time to show you some. Here’s a simple wedding cake shape that you can use and decorate as you desire.

Read the basic instructions for making cake pops, and then use following directions to turn them into miniature wedding cakes.
Wedding Cake Cutters
After you have rolled out the cake balls, use two different size cookie cutters to make the shapes. You can use small cutters like these to shape the cake and frosting mixture.

They’re not too big … the round cutter is about 1 1/2 inches wide and the crinkle cutter is about 1 1/4 inches wide.

Press one cake ball into each mold until the mixture fills up the cookie cutter shape. Remove any excess and you can reuse.

Wedding Cakes

Remove mixture from the cookie cutters carefully so the shape stays intact and place on a wax paper-covered baking sheet.

When you have your shapes made, melt white candy coating per the directions on the package. Apply a thin layer of coating to the bottom of the smaller shaped cake, leaving the center uncoated. (This will make it easier for the lollipop stick to be inserted.)

Then place the small layer on top of the larger layer, coating side down. Press gently and let the candy coating set like glue. Place cakes in the refrigerator to keep chilled before dipping.

When you are ready, dip the tip of each lollipop stick in coating and then insert into the bottom of the cake about halfway. Then dip the wedding cake pop in a small narrow bowl of melted candy coating so that you can dip and remove the entire cake in one motion.

To make sure the coating is fluid enough, you can add some shortening or paramount crystals to help thin it out.

Remove from the candy coating, tap off any excess gently and place a jumbo heart sprinkle on top before the coating sets.

Let dry in a styrofoam block and then attach decorations using more melted candy coating like as glue. You can use sugar crystals, confetti sprinkles or even pipe on details like dots or swirls with more candy coating. You could really go all out with different decorations and colors.

Jumbo heart sprinkles

These jumbo heart sprinkles work out great for the top of the cakes.

Just look how simple and sweet these are.

Wedding Cake Pops

You could give these cake pops for:

  • An engagement party
  • A wedding shower
  • Wedding favors
  • You could even propose with them

Imagine how cute they would be with some sweet little tags.

Okay, forget imagining… let me just show you.

  1. Whaaaa so cute!! What a great idea to ask her this way :D:D

  2. These are wonderful! I’m making them for my brother-in-law’s wedding. I’m having a hard time getting the mixture to work with cookie cutters but I’m working on it! Chilling the mixture first seems to help a little, but it’s still super hard! Hope I’ll have a picture to show soon!

  3. Also, how do you display them?

  4. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Bakerella, what type of coating did you use that is so white? I am thinking of making them for a wedding this weekend I would love to reproduce the same effect.

    Thanks!

I cant really tell in the picture if when coated you can really tell the flower shaped ones are crimped… when you coat them does it take away that shape?

I am going to make these for my brothers and future sister in laws couples shower!

  8. For Realz! We only wish we could be so lucky! I am more than impressed and that’s before I even get to how adorable those pops are. To die for.

  37. what a sucker i am! (i’m in good company, to…)

so it’s sunday morning, i’m sitting here with my coffee, looking around your site for the cake-ball frosting things i read about on someone else’s blog, and i get all caught up in the story about rich and melissa (total strangers to me, btw), and follow your link back here, then…. waaahhhh! i’m teary-eyed and grinning at the screen like a total dork. in a good way.

  38. Can you tell me what the white pieces around the wedding cakes are? Is that some sort of candy?

  39. Carolina – you can try it with regular chocolate, it just may be a little more difficult to work with.

  40. I totally just teared up reading that. Love it!

  41. omg!! congratulations!!!!!:)

  42. Oh my gosh! That totally made me tear up! Sooooo sweet! What an awesome guy you have there Mel! Congrtulations!

And I LOVE the wedding pops! What a cool website Bakerella. I must admit. I just stumbled upon it just now from my cousin-in-laws blog site and now I’m totally hooked! ;-)

  43. so sweet of u to help Rick :)

  44. OMG! Can’t believe how cute this is!! I’m crying at my computer, alone in my kitchen, on the other side of the world! Can u believe this?!!

    WAY TO GO BAKERELLA!!!!!!!!

    Mariela, from ARGENTINA.

  45. I decided to check in on Bakerella from work, and here I am misty eyed and smiling like an idiot in my office. It’s a good thing it’s a Friday and half the office is gone! Congrats to the happy couple. :)

  46. This is amazing! I’m crying and I don’t even know them. How thoughtful and Bakerella you’re amazing for helping with this. I LOVE IT!!

  47. you can try melting regular chocolate morsels and add some shortening or veg oil to make it easier to work with, but it works better on the cake balls because it doesn’t dry hard enough to support the cake on the stick.

  48. OMG… this just totally made me cry in front of my laptop.

Wow, congrats to you Melissa…Rich must be one hell of a guy :)

  49. This might be one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen in my life. So sweet and beautiful and kind of you. Great blog you have here :)

  64. I am covered in goosebumps. The internet is good.

  65. Oh god, what could be more perfect than the blog you adore in on the proposal??? and cupcake pops?? love it!

  66. I have never seen anything sweeter!

  67. I’m so very disappointed :(….. I’ve been trying to do my first cake pops but I haven’t been able to find candy melts nor chocolate bark. I live in Mexico, although up in Mexico City you can find everything, down here in Cancún I had no success finding it. Is there any other option to cover my brownie pops? I would appreciate your suggestions bakerella. Thanks for introducing me to the cake pop world, I’m mesmerized and hoping I can soon enjoy my own creations!

  68. omg!!! I am crying right now!! That is so sweet!!! Even while my hubby is snoring away with the flu right now I know he would have done this too if blogs even were around when we got married 7 years ago. Hope you guys are as happy as we are!!

  69. I love this !!!!

  70. I’m sitting at work and read the proposal story then scrolled down to see this.. it made me cry!!!! So sweet!
I’m glad there are such nice people in the world to do wonderful things for eachother like this.

  71. Michele – you can do that. Just make sure it is candy coloring and not regular food coloring. It cannot contain water.

  72. This is the “sweetest” proposal ever! I love it!

  73. This made me cry! So sweet!

  74. oh my gosh, i have tears in my eyes. so sweet. what a catch melissa, you are one lucky woman.

  75. Wow, that is truly beautiful :)

  76. I burst into tears myself when I got down to reading the tags! Congratulations Melissa & Richard!! Such an original & thoughful proposal. So happy for you both, and best of luck always! Wow.

  77. Congratulations Rich & Melissa

WOW! Nothing will ever top that proposal, it was so sweet, so clever, and so personal (afteral Melissa enjoys baking and everything Bakerella)…way to go Rich.
Melissa you are going to have a life full of sweet surprises.
Praying God’s Blessings to you both.

  78. how romantic!!! *BIG SIGH* =*)

  79. I’m bawling!!! Love it!

  80. I love it! I’m all teary! He’s going to make a great husband!

  81. Thanks Bakerella.I can’t order edible products from amazon.com… i’ll try to color regulate chocolate, yes.
Continue your fabulous work, we love it so much! Even my husband who never cooks waits for your ideas each week!

  82. That is absolutely fantastic and adorable! How wonderful to be part of something that special!
Must be a great guy to be that “in tune” with her to know exactly what to do!!
    Congrats to the newly engaged!
and another great thing done by Bakerella!

  83. I love checking in every now and then to see what you’re up to. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. Very clever indeed…

  84. Kirsten – try the americolor brand. Write with a very light touch. Almost like you are painting so that the residue from the candy doesn’t build up on the tip.

Kellie – Don’t get whipped. Just try less frosting if it’s too moist for you.

Michele – I’m not familiar with places outside the US. Are you able to order from amazon.com? They carry a lot of the supplies. If you can’t find colored candy melts, try to color regular chocolate bark with candy coloring. It contains oil instead of water.

  85. So sweet. Actually choked me up. : )

  86. aawwww… that is just adorable! Congrats to Melissa! What a lovely proposal…gotta love the internet…

  87. Congrats! That’s an original way to propose…and the wedding cake pops are amazing!

I pray I can leave that kind of mark with my cake business as well!

  104. Great news, Bakerella amazing what you have done. One question, this Rich guy looks like he is in his 30’s, at that age how was he dating this Mel girl for 6 years and she still stuck by him (plus she bakes for him all the time). People are saying he is great, I think she is the catch. Rich, this is not a game, make sure you treat her right.

  137. Oh my! That is so creative, both the pops and the proposal. I hope she said yes!!!

  138. Well I chilled them and as long as they are chilled I can work with them in cups but not on a stick so much so far. The dipping part works fine. Hope they taste okay done since so sticky. I am determined because I want to do favors for my niece’s wedding in cake bites in some sort of beach theme.

  139. I guess now you’re kinda obligated to make cake pops for their wedding…….those lucky ducks!!

  141. Thats awesome! I wish my husband would have been that creative!

  142. Hi. These and all your creations are adorable. I saw these and just had to go out and try to make some. I rushed around yesterday and today getting supplies… making due with a variation on cup molds but I think I got the wrong frosting upon reading posts…I got HOMESTYLE cream cheese and is came out sticky. Tastes good so gonna scoop, chill n dip then try again tmrw. May be less frosting or go get Whipped. ADVICE?!

  143. No WAy!!! That is just too cool!!! It brought a tear to my eye. YOU HAVE TO share the rest of the story now!!

  144. Oh- How beautiful! I made chocolates for my wedding guests, had I seen these, they might of got cakes too. But that was 6 years ago. Where were you then ?
Now I’m into other things revolving around 2 & 5 year old boys. So I made your cake pops for my 2 year olds birthday. They looked like Elmo. So cute! Red candy coating & big eyes. I tried usung orange icing for the nose & it just kept running. And I ran out of the candy coating, so I finished with red royal icing I had for the # 2 cookies. That worked too, & they were very tasty ! Everybody loved them.

  145. This the just too darn cute!!!

  146. AHHH! How awesome is that? Congrats!
