Pudding Cups

IMG_9670

Wicked Good Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding Cups. They’re from the book, Sticky, Chewy, Messy, Gooey Treats for Kids by Jill O’Connor and just as good as their name states. Jill sent me and my niece a copy of her book as a little thank you for a post I did inspired by her Cheesecake Pops. We had a hard time deciding which recipe to try first, but we kept coming back to these pudding cups. They were really fun to make and even more fun to eat. You’ll see what I mean in a minute. And the best part… I didn’t have to do any of the work. My little helper did it all.

Untitled-2

From separating the egg yolks, to the measuring and mixing.

IMG_9039

She cooked the pudding.

IMG_9044

And mixed in the peanut butter… (thank you, Jill) … and the extra chocolate chips … Oh my!

Let the pudding chill for at least four hours before eating.

Here’s a link to the Pudding Recipe so you can print it out.

Now, here’s the best part.

It involves balloons to make bowls.

IMG_9326

Okay, I did help a little bit here. We blew up regular size balloons about halfway so they were still small, but found that water balloons worked best. They are a perfect size for this project, just hard to fill with air instead of water. I about busted a lung.

After you blow up the balloons, wash them off and let them dry. And before you use each one, spray a little non-stick cooking spray on each. Just a little.

Okay, here’s what you do.

Melt some semi-sweet chocolate, white chocolate or confectionery coating. I used the same candy coating I use for cake pops. Let it cool slightly before using. It doesn’t need to be super hot.

IMG_9388

Spoon a small amount on a wax-paper-covered baking sheet.

IMG_9393

Then take one of your prepared balloons and dip it in the chocolate. Dip it in enough so the chocolate makes a bowl shape around the balloon.

Remove from the chocolate and place the balloon gently on top of the chocolate waiting on the baking sheet.

IMG_9401

And repeat.

Untitled-1

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

IMG_9460

It’s as easy as one…

IMG_9461

two…

IMG_9469

three!

IMG_9479

And like I said earlier … just fun.

She was so proud. And so was I.

You can place the tray of balloon bowls in the refrigerator to speed up the drying time.

IMG_9486

Then it’s time for the really fun part.

Pop them all with a pin.

IMG_9516_2

Gently remove the balloon carnage from the inside of the cups and they are ready to go. If you want, you can also serve other treats in them like ice cream.

IMG_9540

But we had wicked good pudding waiting in the fridge. Fill each cup as full as you want.

IMG_9560

Then you can top them off with whipped cream.

IMG_9573

Lots and lots of whipped cream.

To make Jill’s Sweetened Whipped Cream, just chill a metal bowl and beaters in the freezer for about 15 minutes (to help whip the cream faster). Then combine 2 cups heavy cream, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat on medium-low using a mixer until the cream starts to thicken. Then increase speed to medium-high and beat until firm peaks form.

And yep, my niece made that too. Tired arms and all.

IMG_9584

Finally, you can add some sprinkles. As few…

IMG_9603

or as many as you like.

IMG_9619

Want some?

IMG_9631

Come on… you know you do.

IMG_9650

And when you’re all finished, you can eat the bowl, too.

IMG_9691

Enjoy making a mess!

IMG_6944

And, check out Jill’s book. I think you’ll be glad you did.

  1. Awesome idea! My bowls aren’t nearly as smooth in appearance! But I actually sort of like the swirled look that have- it looks very earthy and natural. Love it!

  2. I want to try these so bad but I have a child that is allergic to peanuts. Any suggestions on something else I could substitute for the peanut butter?

  3. I made these with my mother-in-law on the 4th. They turn out to be a huge hit! So simple and delicious~ We used Ghirardelli chocolate and didn’t have any problems!

  4. I tried to make this cute little chocolate cups, but it didin’t work because I didn’t use the right chocolate, so the chocolate never become hard. Could you please tell me which chocolate do I have to use? Maybe the one we use for chocolate frozen covered banana? Thank you for your help! :)

  5. oh my – what will you think of next? you are so crazy creative. i want to attend “camp bakerella”!

  6. I was shocked by the idea of using balloons as the ‘bowl’ maker. hahaha… such a great idea but i think this thing has to be done with all my family or best friends. so, it would be more fun. ^_^

  7. Really good idea ! :)

  8. yeah, the chocolate keeps melting off before i can even put it in the freezer ..

  9. My kid would love these. Thanks.

  10. How many cups does the recipe for the pudding make?? Not sure how much chocolate to melt or how many balloons to fill.

  11. I really love this recipe :D really easy and fun!
    Thanks a lot!

  12. Hi there,

This looks amazing and I’m sure it takes fantastic…problem is that when we tried making it with suggested water balloons, it all kept popping..even though the chocolate was hardly even warm and was starting to get thicker…we would dip the balloon in, then put it in the tray, and then just as we thought yay this is working…POP!

That was pretty disappointing and we don’t really know why it didn’t work for us…we tried about 5 before we gave up.

Hope there is a solution?? I would LOVE to make them successfully this time lol…

Hope others don’t find this problem.

  13. The cups are great. You can also swril white chocolate and another color like pink to make tulip cups. make mini or large ones are adorable. The mini one are great for tea parties or showers.

  14. I made these with my friend with white chocolate dyed green for st. patricks day and they turned out amazingly!!! Thank you so much for the idea!!!!

  15. i heart pudding cups!

  16. That is a very clever idea! I really like how nice they work out. Allthough they would be perfect for kids, I know a few adults I can try this out on…thanks.

  17. I tried one to see how it would turn out…it popped in my face and the chocolate went all over me :(

  18. These were wonderful, I tried them yesterday. They didn’t look quite as good as yours but the children and I thoroughly enjoyed them! Btw, if anyone is after a great profiteroles recipe try this, it’s excellent:
    http://gomestic.com/cooking/chocolate-profiteroles/

  19. You don’t even need to put chocolate on the pan before you dip the balloon, when you set the balloon down the chocolate puddles down and creates a perfect little plate for the cup already! Removes a tedious part ^^ Just letting you know!

  20. Oooohhh……new desert for upcoming Christmas party? I think so :)

  21. I like the bowl ! It’s so amazing and cute!
I’ll going to try this recipe for Christmas, Thanks! :-)

  22. Delicious and yummy :)
    I just love your site!
It makes me want a cupcake :)

  23. I just made this pudding, OMG it is so freakin good! I made it into a pudding pie with a graham cracker crust. It is seriously ridiculously good! Make it now!!!!

  24. my God, lots of great idea… each more delicious…. yummmyyyyyy… cant wait to try some with the kids. thanks alot, thats a great website. i thank my friend Sarah who told me to check it out and ill get addicted….. i already am

  25. I saw this idea and loved it so I tried it out. The balloons kept popping because the chocolate was too hot!! Melted chocolate went everywhere!!!! Any ideas on how to fix this? I tried using cooler chocolate but it didn’t work!

  26. Aww….. No fair!!

    I’m on a diet.
    *sniff*

  27. They look wicked!
(And are too, because balloonies cause cancer.)

  28. Es una idea genial!! Gracias…. Thanks… Danke!

  29. We tried this with water balloons from the toy department at Walmart, and almond bark coating. All of our balloons popped except for one and the kitchen was splattered. Then my husband decided to pop the one that had survived before it could pop and make a mess, so we didn’t get to see how it would have worked out. We still needed chocolate cups, so we sprayed paper cupcake wrappers with nonstick spray and painted the insides with melted chocolate, then froze them solid and peeled off the paper wrappers.

  30. At first I really didn’t know what the balloons were for but that is a really innovative idea. I like!

  31. This version seems a lot easier. I saw them make chocolate baskets over here (http://www.chicaandjo.com/2008/02/27/chocolate-baskets/) which I love the look of and how they added the message on the inside but I don’t think I have the patience to squirt the chocolate out like they did. I would much rather just dip the balloon! Thanks for such an easy but complicated looking tutorial.

  32. What a great idea ! I love it.

  33. im sooooo in love with these site!! im learning so much! i just wish i could as talented as bakerella!!

  34. OMG this is totally cool! I’ve never seen cups made this way before. I’m so going to try making these.

  35. That is a great idea i have to try this wonderful!

  36. Wow! You make the most best looking treats! I want to make them all they look so good!

  37. such a smart idea. who would of thought balloons would come to use in the kitchen? awesome!

  38. Looks interesting…

  39. thats awsome yo

  40. Great idea – I just wouldn’t want the aftertaste of balloon.

  41. WOW this is an AMAZING site. I love the wonderful mix of photos and writing on this post.

  42. I tried making these… complete disaster!

  43. I think it would be delicious on Salmon!

  44. I made something similar once, but I dipped the chocolate on the balloons in toasted coconut before drying and then filled them with coconut ice cream. YUM! I like this idea though. :)

  45. omg! nice. but sadly, to make the chocolate pudding, the page is unavailable. awww. i wante to try these~ ):

  46. Ugh. This is the project from hell.
    Really.
Out of 20 balloons only 4 didn’t explode!!!!
I did everything that the directions said, from the pam to the chocolate to cooling to the water balloons.
    NOTHING WORKED.
I wish it did because this looked so cute!

  47. LOVE LOVE !! I will never loose weight now ~ he he! My kids are going to be in heaven this summer !!

  48. Sue Ann and Desiree-
I bought 5 inch balloons and blew them up very small. For most of them I was good to go with no balloons sticking. A few of them had a little bit stuck, but I scrapped it out carefully. I think the thicker the balloon the easier it is to peel.
Hope this works for you. I’m off to the market to buy half-n-half for the wicked pudding.

  49. I finally made these and also experienced disaster. We used water balloons from CVS. First batch I forgot the cooking spray and got balloon permanent stuck in the cups. The second batch exploded (melted chocolate everywhere!). They were chocolate chips, microwaved, and I stirred until everything was melted and waited for it to cool a bit before dipping. They did not explode immediately – by the time I had my 6th ballon on the tray the first one started to explode. Looking for recommendations on what brand/type of balloons worked for you.

  50. Hi! This was such a great tutorial, and extremely delicious. I made a tutorial too. http://whiterabbitisme.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/chocolate-peanut-butter-pudding-cups/

They were a great hit for my birthday treat in the office.

  51. Is there anything that we could use in place of balloons? We have severe latex allergies in our family!

  52. I tried these this weekend and the balloons kept popping! Of course, not until they had enough chocolate on them to splatter it everywhere, though.
I let the chocolate cool quite a bit and they still kept popping. Any suggestions? The pudding was to die for, by the way.

  53. Deanna,
I made these chocolate cups, and I had the same problem you did. The balloons would not peel away from the chocolate, even though I followed the directions.
I wonder if a regular balloon would be better?

  54. These are brilliant! I especially love the chocolate cups. I have been trying to find the perfect desert to serve my in laws. Thank you!

  55. Oh my goodness! My favorite part is when the plastic is used.

  56. I made the pudding and it’s so good! can’t wait for it to cool all the way so my little sister and i can make the cups :D
    thank you!

  57. I saw a recipe to make chocolate spoons they would be cute with this bowl, I:am going to try it. but I have copd and ahsma so I need to find someone else to blow up the balloons lol!

  58. WOW!
The chocolate bowls are really something :-)))

  59. I loved this idea, so I went to try it with my little ones…and for whatever reason my choc wouldnt be cool enought it caused the balloons to pop and choc went flying every where in our kitchen. I used wilton candy melts, how long should i let it cool and is there a specific balloon you used. thanks!

  60. Thank you so much for the step by step instructions for the balloon/chocolate cups. That made it much easier for us.
    These were a huge hit!

  61. What did I do wrong? I used water balloons ~ let my husband bust on lung on blowing them up. . . washed, dried, sprayed with Pam, dipped them and let them harden. Once I popped them, the balloon did not come out from the bottom of the chocolate bowl. Trying to scrap the balloon out was a complete disaster. I don’t want to give up here. . . just need some advice.

  62. Thanks so much!
After viewing this post I just had to look up that book at Amazon.
With my husband peering over my shoulder ( and salivating with every picture – he likes to both bake and eat).
We loved this book and the one for adults too.
It didn’t take too long before we found a book supplier that had them in stock here in Australia and too soon the order was placed.
We have already tried a couple of recipes and they are sooooooo bad!! Delicious but naughty.
    Thanks again!

  63. this looks delicious!

  64. I can’t wait to try these! Maybe using an air compressor for the water balloons would work better. Anything is better than busting a lung, right? I always look forward to your posts!

  65. This is the best idea, and so fun for kids! LOVE IT

  66. As soon as I saw these I thought of the elementary school kids I work with over the summer. We tried these today and they were a HUGE hit with the kids. Of course, like some others, our balloons kept popping.

The water balloons seemed to work best if we coated them in butter before dipping them and the regular balloons didn’t pop at all. Of course we only found this out after getting chocolate literally everywhere and being being splattered with it from head to toe…but they were still great and we got lots of good laughs! Thanks for posting :)

  67. Made these for the school awards banquet and they were the first dessert eaten. They were such a hit I made them for a bridal shower and everyone raved madly about them. I used mousse inside and added a cherry – adorable!!!!

  68. My 8 year old can’t wait to make these- He said “I could just reach into the computer and grab some out- they look awesome!!”

  69. I did this a long time ago, but instead of bowls I made them into tea cups (same thing, just added a chocolate handle to the side). I do have to say, be very sure you don’t blow up the balloons too much or have the chocolate too hot…I coated a dozen balloons, set them on a sheet to cool and left the kitchen…next thing I hear is a loud pop and when i walk back into the kitchen I saw that one of the balloons popped and my entire kitchen was coated with a fine spray of warm chocolate. I was finding chocolate bits in random spots for weeks.

  70. First of all, I adore this recipe! I am trying it for the first time with some little friends and they all think it is awesome. They love how you can eat the bowl. At first we had trouble with the balloons popping but we let the chocolate cool and we are alright now. Can’t wait to eat the bowls! :)

  71. We escaped the kitchen… waiting for the chocolate to cool down. Most of the balloons have already popped… except for two. This can get very frustrating! But after reading the comments we know to let the chocolate cool and to put Pam non-stick spray on them BEFORE you dip them in the chocolate!

  72. what an awesome blog and post. I will definitely be trying these out.

  73. I’m having a banana split party this week – and the chocolate bowls will be perfect! Love them~

  74. This is brilliant! I love the idea… impressive for a dinner party and SO EASY.

  75. I was directed to this website by a friend who is also a cook, omg…I love the stuff that you have here. I have a 4 year old son that I will try this with this weekend and I can only imagine how much fun he is going to have. Very good stuff, thanks so much I will definitely be back to check out more.

  76. I made these after reading this post, no exploding balloons but I used regular not water balloons. The problem with regular was that they wouldn’t sit level on the tray so most of them tilted to one side. I was thinking I would use water balloons next time, but maybe not if they explode! Overall, though, very fun and my friends enjoyed them! I shook on some colored sprinkles before putting them on the tray to dry and they turned out really cute!

  77. Wow!!! That is the cutest idea. I’m definitely going to check out the book too. Thanks so much!

  78. it look amazing.. yummmy

  79. Ok so my kids and I made these and the water balloons popped. It was a huge mess and no the chocolate was not hot. We used Almond bark. It looks so perfect for you and I really loved the idea.. I would like to do it again what did I do wrong:(

  80. This recipe is simply amazing! I am going to try making this with my children because it looks like a lot of fun!

  81. ok, 1/2 my balloons are exploding. The chocolate isn’t too hot, any cooler and it would harden- so what’s the problem? I am using the water balloons like Bakerella suggested, and they are so so thin. I wonder if I should just use regular balloons instead.

  82. I don’t like popping balloons! Any suggestions of what else could be used to make the cups?

  83. Ok. Made these and, yes, some of the balloons popped! Eventually the chocolate cooled enough to make the cups and then getting the popped balloon out of the choco cup was fairly easy, with a few that gave us a bit of trouble. We made the recipe exactly as written and the pudding was very good :) The chocolate cups were so rich that even the biggest chocolate lover couldn’t finish it. Overall, I think they are super cute, the pudding is very good but not really worth the trouble. Sorry, Bakerella. I love your blog and I’ll continue to try all your wonderful recipes. This one just wasn’t for us.

  84. This will be fun to make in the summer. Cute idea!

  85. OMG … I have two little helpers here. They would totally love these, especially in about two weeks, when summer vacation starts. Pudding, ice-cream, mousse, so many possible, wonderful, yummy fillings. I can’t wait to make these with my girls. Thank you for sharing!

  86. this looks absolutely gorgeous!!! am going to have to make these over half term… :) only problem is that i really don’t like peanut butter (i know, i’m weird) is there anything i can substitute in?

  87. Mmm, YUM! I love your blog btw.

    Swedish xoxo from Karin

  88. This is SO AWESOME! How fun is that??? And here’s me with a new packet of water balloons in the house… hmm….. : )

  89. These look amazing! What a fun afternoon activity! Will definitely give these a try!

  90. adorable and a fun hands-on for kids!

  91. JUST made these yesterday for my Mom :) I filled them with raspberry mousse. I had quite the time making the cups as the balloons kept b/c the chocolate was too hot. How long did you wait for the sauce to cool down before dipping the balloons? The final product was very impressive!

  92. I tried this with my oldest son over the weekend. I should of read it more closely about putting the dab of chocolate on early. The second go around we did a much better job. He had so much fun popping the balloons! They were a big hit at our family get together. My grandmother that has Alzheimer’s disease had a hard time figuring out that she could eat the bowl. I had to help her. She was amazed! Just like all the little kids were.

  93. I made this dessert Friday night and it was a hit, till the ballons popped!!! OMG, I thought the chocolate was cool, but no! They exploded everywhere. When the chocolate finally cooled, the balloons did their job until we manually popped them. My girls loved everything about this dessert. Need to buy the book now!! Thanks for the inspiration.

  94. I don’t have any balloons on hand otherwise I would have made the chocolate bowls, but I made the pudding today. I am anxiously waiting for it to cool before I can heap my spoon full of it and enjoy. Thanks for bringing light to an excellent recipe!

  95. Our 3 1/2 year old granddaughter Abigail is coming for an “overnight” this week! What fun we will have making these for dessert! Oh, don’t forget, Monday, May 10th is National Wear Your Apron Day!

  96. Omy that is so cute!!! I fell in love with this as soon as I saw the bright colored balloons

  97. I’m planning to make these for my son’s 13th birthday party this weekend, but filling with cake and ice cream :) Teens and chocolate, it’ll go over gangbusters :D

  98. This might be a dumb question but where can i find the sprinkles they used on the puddings ?

  99. Yum! These look like so much fun to make!

  100. So creative. LOVE it.

  101. Those look amazing! They seem a bit difficult to make with the balloons and all, but wow, they look fantastic. You have wonderful pictures :)

  102. So cute! The original Sticky, Chewy, Messy, Gooey is one of my favorite baking books. All of the recipes are delicious and really creative!

  103. Mmmmmm……..id like to do this for a party!!

  104. I tried to do the balloon thing once…I popped at least 83 balloons (okay…I gave up at around 14). I don’t know if it was a bad batch of balloons or what. I let the stuff cool a long time. When I moved out of that house a year later, I was still finding chocolate splatter in the strangest places…even the ceiling! LOL

  105. I couldn’t resist! I made these today with my kids. Thanks for the idea. Check out the video of us making these treats!

  106. The balloon trick is brilliant! Not to mention so fun. TFS!

  107. How fun are those!? So cute!!

  108. So ridiculously cute!
    Can’t wait to make these

  109. I just want you to know that I think you’re amazing. You remind me of how fun it is to be a Mom, with all the exciting experiments and trials you share with us. The joy of motherhood and sharing talents goes far, but today especially. It’s been a rough day and it’s just a joy to see this new treat you’ve shared, it brought a smile to my face and some joy to my heart as I plan on going to get the supplies to do this with my kids on Mother’s Day! Thanks for all your wonderful idea’s and for sharing your resources and treasures you find with us. The links and supply places you’ve shared is like walking into Wonderland with all it’s possibilities which are endless. You’re one great lady and MOM! I hope your Mother’s Day is a great one!

  110. I love kids in the kitchen!

  111. OH MY HEAVENLY STARS! Do you know how much I am drooooooooling now? Mercy woman. Amazing.

  112. We just dipped it one time… swirling it around. Regular chocolate won’t work though.. using the candy melts from any cake decorating store, or even Walmart carries the Wilton brand now, works wonders!

  113. Question, how many times does the ballon (same one) have to be melt on the chocolate? did not get that part

  114. We made these yesterday… my kids LOVED it! Some are pretty ODD shaped bowls, but just like those “hand casts” and ash trays made out of clay when their parents never have smoked…. it was THEIRS, and that was SUPER COOL for them! Thank you so much! We’re packaging the bowls in a cooler, taking the pudding, and having dessert between the girls’ softball games tonight! Thanks so much for the direction!!

  115. This is such a great idea to engage kids and they would I’m sure love the whole process speciall the last part’ eating’ !
I so wish my daughter was big enough to try this buy one day I will!
Bookmarking it for a couple years :-)

  116. I cant wait to make these with my kids. They are going to love love love these. Thanks!!!!

  117. Ah-MAZE-ing! So yummy! This was the best time ever! My stepson loved making these! Now my seventeen year old sister wants to make them everyday! Absolutely splendifferous!

  118. I made these for teacher appreciation at my school this week. I put a dollop of whipped cream in the bottom and topped them with strawberries. THe kids had fun helping and the teachers loved them! Thank you so much

  119. I JUST finished making these, they look amazing, and taste awesome! I thought they would be a great mothers day treat. Thank you for posting this, and thank you stumble for helping me find it :D

  120. These look so yummy, I can not wait to try them.

  121. I’m a homeschool mom and love being in the kitchen with my kids. These are the perfect “last day of school” treat! Thanks for the idea!!

  122. Noemi – wow, I didn’t realize so many people had latex allergies. You could paint the chocolate on baking cups or silicone cups and let dry. Remove and you’ll be left with a chocolate cup.

WishTrish – the book is great.

Amy Matthews – I am no facebook. facebook.com/bakerella

Jill – I’ll hold you to that.

Janet – Yes, really hard to blow up.

DebbieL – yes. If I had only known.

Libby – Usually I use Kroger brand bark coating. I don’t use baking chocolate for dipping. And I blew up the water balloons instead of filling them with water.

    Rachel – I didn’t notice a latex taste.

Jenny Flake – Yes we do. Last time was so much fun.

Laura P. – So true. I need to teach her wordpress.

Jeannette – Thanks. I’ve been known to give a french manicure or two.

Meagan – sounds like the chocolate was too hot.

rock – those balloons pop easily with water in them. I didn’t want a bigger mess.

Katie D – Check out Jill’s answer a few below your comment.

Si – Umm- it’s a dessert and sweet on purpose.

Sarah Lynn – Heat is slow and low in the microwave and stir in between.

Jill – Thanks for the info. And I love your books. My niece and I had the best time.

By the way, I used Kroger brand bark coating. It melts fantastic in the microwave. I let it cool for just a few minutes and none of the balloons popped.

Nicole – I forgot to spray a couple of bowls and they still came out fine. Maybe you are popping the balloons with too much force, or they are blown up too tight.

When we popped ours, most of them slowly shrank in size from the air escaping. They didn’t burst.

  123. this is AMAZING!!!!! so in love with it!!!

  124. wow these are great! I’m babysitting my three cousins this summer who are 6,9, and 11, and I cant wait to try these!!! thank you so much!

  125. love the idea of these cups! can’t wait to do them at our next family get together for the kiddies!

  126. Hi Bakerella! Love this post! I tried making the cups and didn’t have non-stick spray. I ended up having chocolate carnage instead…still yummy though! Any other suggestions on how to make sure the cups hold their shape when popping the balloons–especially if you don’t have non-stick spray? Thanks!

  127. Hi! This is Jill O’Connor, and I want to respond to the people who have popped their balloons dipping them in the chocolate. My first advice is to make sure the chocolate isn’t too hot. It should be warm and liquid but not hot. My advice is to melt chocolate like I do–in the microwave.

I spread the chopped chocolate or chocolate chips in a thin, even layer on a large microwave-safe dinner plate and heat on high for one minute. Stir until smooth and transfer to a deep bowl. If the chocolate isn’t warm enough to stir smooth, heat it is 15 second increments until it is. Chocolate melted in the microwave melts faster and more evenly, I find. ALso, make sure you by balloons that are strong enough! Water balloons, as Bakerella suggested, are usually strong enough.Good luck, and have fun!

    Jill

  128. WOW those chocolate bowls look delicious!

  129. Everything you do always looks so yummy! But, Bakerella, how do you prevent your chocolate from burning? I either do one of two things:
    1. Burn my chocolate

    OR

    2. The chocolate stays chunky.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

  130. I made the pudding last night and it was ready to eat for breakfast this morning! I didn’t have any smooth peanut butter in the house so I exchanged it for two smooshed up banana’s.

    So GOOD!

  131. What a great idea! I love the balloon bowls! Amazing!!

  132. These look soooo fun and yummy! This is such a great recipe to make with kids – or adults who still act like kids:)

    Uh oh, I’m having a chocolate craving…

  133. This is so cute! Be careful if serving to lots of kids though; make sure no one has a latex allergy.

  134. Such an earth-conserving method!

  135. Once again here on Stumble why is it that without exception if its food and American the recipes are high in fat and or sugar ? ,. dont you know anything but ? . .

  136. So delicious looking! I’m so doing this for a dinner party!
Could fill with so many things! Off to melt some chocolate…and then some more! :)

  137. aww, the bowls are so cute!!! love this great idea!

  138. This is such a cute and fun idea! I’ll have to add this one to my list of things to do when I’m really bored and looking for something to do in the kitchen. :)

  139. Oh, I *so* want to do this, but my allergy klaxons are going off already! Nope, not peanuts. Latex in the balloons. :( Any other ideas for these without latex?

  140. Oh my goodness gracious! Yummy!

  141. AAw those chocolate cups are sooo cute! N d book! i have the pink n brown version of the book (the regular kind, not the kid ones) n i love it! i still have to try some of the recipes during my free time

  142. The more I explore your site, the more impressed I am. Absolutely a baking fantasy. I don’t bake. I cook like a rock star but I don’t measure very well. You do inspire.
    Well done.

  143. I LOVE this…I tried it as soon as I got home from work..I attempted it 3 times…the first time worked well other than ( silly me) I didnt put the bowl on wax paper so it stuck…then the other 2 times the balloons literally EXPLODED!!! LOL I must admit it was super funny… anyway…How can I make the balloon not do this.. I let the chocolate cool for a while..as long as I could without it hardening..Not sure why the first balloon didnt pop… HELP!! I want so badly to do this with my preschoolers!

  144. Why bust your lungs ?
Put in some water and tie off before washing.
When you have your cups – cut off the top of
the balloon and pour out the water.
The oil should release the “bowl”.

  145. LOVE these! It looks like you guys had a blast, I think I’ll have to buy the book and send it to my friends with kids!

  146. I love recipes that are kid-friendly and you get a super yummy result!! Definitely going to try this ;) Thanks again, Bakerella, for another fun idea!

  147. YUM!!! I really need to try those!!!

Btw, I just did a version of your first communion cupcakes. My daughter had hers last weekend. I just posted the pics on my blog :) Thanks for all of the inspiration!!

  148. My girls started SQUEALING when they saw this and in unison said, “Can we do that? Can we do that?? Can we do that??”…to which I promptly said, “Yes…if you stop saying that!”.

I have a feeling I know what we will be doing with friends this weekend!

  149. Can I just tell you how much your website makes me smile? I literally get happy looking at it. I hope to make some of this stuff and for it to turn out half as good as yours.

  150. I made these years ago and used a mixture of milk and white chocolate swirled together. It’s important that the melted chocolate isn’t too hot…if the balloon pops, look out! I was cleaning chocolate spatter off of my kitchen walls and everywhere else for a couple of months! These are easy to make, delicious to eat, and definitely make a great impression!

  151. That is so cool how you make the bowls! I definitely want to try this!

  152. Those are so cute and look delicious! My little 3 year old granddaughter is sitting here with me reading your post and begging to make them! What a fun project for you and your niece!

  153. SUCH a refreshing change from ice cream! No melted sticky ice cream with the kiddos. Love it.

  154. These look so fun!!! Thanks for sharing!

  155. looks like fun!

  156. That’s so cute! I’m going to make this with my kids! Thanks for sharing. xxx

  157. That is so amazingly adorable! I totally love the balloon idea…even if I hate balloons! It would seem they actually do have a use!

  158. These look so amazing, I want some now. But I think my husband would make fun of me and blame it on pregnancy hormones if I were to go into the kitchen and start cooking at 1am. Oh well, I might just go do it anyway.

  159. Wow.. Look easy and nice..

  160. That is frickin fantastic! I am going to need to make these soon. I will even try to not be a control freak and let my big kid help me! ;)

  161. This looks so fun! I can’t wait to try it with my kids. Thanks for sharing! :)

  162. I think this is my #1 favorite recipe you have ever blogged! How fun and delicious!!!

  163. This is a fun project!

  164. I attempted the bowls and all I got was… pop! pop! pop!

They all either popped while I was dipping them or after I set them down on the pan. Any ideas?

  165. These look so delish. You are killing me, one delicious dessert at a time. Love the ballon idea… and your site.

  166. I have the first book and I LOVE it! I will have to get this one too, and make something wonderful with my nieces and nephews (my kids are adults now).

    Thanks Bakerella, and Jill too!
    Tracy

  168. I love the idea for the cups! How fun!!

  169. Oh. My. Gosh. I’m totally going to make these for my daughter’s birthday party next month! She’ll LOVE it~ she’ll be six and this will be her first BIG party! :) Thanks for sharing!!

  170. WONERFUL! This is too cute, and a fantastic idea. I must try this… only i’m slightly scared of popping balloons, haha!

  171. Oooooh the possibilities! Thanks for sharing – you are the bomb! I’m doing this Sunday for Mothers Day. Thanks and keep up the excellent work!

  172. I loooooove chocolate bowls!!
    no clean up! ha

  173. i just love her manicure ;)

  174. Omg edible chocolate pudding cups! LOVE IT!

  175. What an ingenious idea to make chocolate bowls … I used to “paint” chocolate on the insides of baking cups / cupcake liners, but that took a while & wasn’t always easy. This looks so easy! Lots of treats can go in the cups, too.

  176. These look like so much fun to make! And what a sweetheart your niece is! Looks like you’ve got yourself an apprentice. Now if she could just learn WordPress and get her hands on a camera, you’d be all set :)

  177. LOVE this! I am going to have to make these with my kiddos asap! What a great treat this would be for a birthday party!

  178. These look amazing! But i was wondering if anyone can think of anything to use rather than balloons to make the cups? It’s just that i’d love to make thse for my boyfriend, but he’s alergic to latex so he a) couldn’t be in the room when i made these, and b) couldn’t eat them! :(
    Any suggestions would be great!
    Thank you!

  179. What a wonderful idea!

  180. Adorable!!! My daughter would LOVE to make these!!! Thanks for the beautiful pics. :)

  181. Wow those look wonderful! I will definately check out that book!
You have a wonderful site here, so happy I found it!
    Have a nice day~

  182. Fabulous idea with the balloons to make chocolate “bowls” I love it!!! Thank you for posting!

  183. OH NOOOOOO!!!! I LOVE pudding … one more treat I’m gonna have to HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!

  184. Angie, these are beyond cute!! Love your post, we need another blogger event, I want to hang out again and snap a thousand pictures together!!

  185. Yumm! will make these soon- they are gluten free, after all! :)

  186. I do not have any children and the children I do know are too young to even feed themselves BUT I do have a sister that has NEVER baked OR experimented in the kitchen.. .I think this would be PERFECT! This could make her the culinary diva we know is buried deep inside LOL

  187. My favorite memory of watching Marcia Adams is the program that she made these—she waggled the balloons into the bowls of chocolate (three colors, I think, with some being solid and others a variety of the colors) until there were sorta scallops up the sides, like flowers. When I saw Gale Gand do “tulipes” they were almost the same.

And Marcia tied off each balloon by wrapping the neck around a little wooden match, with the head pressed into the balloon somehow, so that you could just gently deflate and wiggle the balloon a bit to remove.

Yours look absolutely slumgullious, and the young cook is surely bound for great things!

  188. WOW, amazing! When my daughter is old enough this is just such a fantastic idea

  189. I saw this book in the store the other day and LOVED it!!! Now I wish I would have splurged to buy it :)
I have been wanting to try these chocolate bowls for a while now, I’m planning on making them for a banquet next month (the theme is CHOCOLATE!!!) yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! CAN’T WAIT! :)
