Cool off with Cool Whip!
It’s been reeeeally hot outside lately, so I decided to try out a cool looking recipe that I’ve had lingering around for a while (since 2005 to be exact…man, I can’t believe it’s been that long).
Here’s the recipe:
Chocolate & Peanut Butter Ribbon Dessert
It was perfect after a long, hot day… cool & creamy and easy to eat.
Next time, I’ll layer this in foil-lined individual ramekins instead of one 9 X 5 pan though. That way I can just pop one out of the freezer as needed. The loaf pan size is pretty, but I should have served it at a dinner party or something, because I still have half of it in the freezer. I think cute layered cups of cool desert would be more fun to eat.
The recipe is from Kraft’s Food & Family magazine. You should check it out. The subscription is FREE and includes 5 issues each year. One for each season, plus a holiday issue. I love getting this in the mail. Lots of quick and easy meal ideas and great photos, too.
So, if you’re in the U.S. and want to get a free subscription, you can:
Sign up for it here at kraftfoods.com
If you’re in Canada and want a free subscription, you can:
Sign up for it at kraftcanada.com
And, if you’re outside the U.S. or Canada you can:

Enjoy!

oh and that cakes looks delish.. I am so jealous!!
July 24, 2008 01:25 AMMe too Bobbie. Jealous muchly. No cool whip in NZ or peanut butter cookies *loud sobs of envy*
July 24, 2008 01:33 AMLove Cool Whip (especially since I can get it in so many varieties) and I love the free Kraft recipe books. I save every single one as well as the emails (in a special folder of course) and go back to them time and time again. I can’t wait to make this particular recipe and I’ll take your suggestion of making it in the individual ramekins instead.
July 24, 2008 01:56 AMThis looks really good, especially for a hot summer day. I get the Kraft emails and magazines. I just love them, the look so delicious and they are so simple. I want to make the Frozen Oreo dessert that was in the last one.
July 24, 2008 02:06 AMWow that looks yummy and not diet friendly.
July 24, 2008 02:13 AMOh my word that looks delicious!!
July 24, 2008 02:24 AMI love the Kraft magazine…especially their desserts. I recently moved and needed to sign up for the magazine again. Thanks for the reminder. Your blog is wonderful. Thanks!

July 24, 2008 01:36 PMhow does it feel to make the “professionals” who create the dishes for the kraft website pictures look like amateurs? :)
July 24, 2008 01:43 PMWow! This dessert looks amazing! Thanks for sharing the recipe. I signed up for the magazine, too :)
July 24, 2008 01:54 PMOk, I’m having a hard time believing Cool Whip isn’t International! Wow! Is there anything similar?
This looks devine. I get the mag but I’ve never noticed that one. I’ll have to go back over them. lol
July 24, 2008 02:12 PMI love that magazine and have been getting it for years. As someone else mentioned I’ve saved each one, chances are I’ve missed a recipe or two the first go round. Thanks for reminding me of this recipe.
Thx!

July 24, 2008 07:26 PMThanks for the tip about the Kraft recipe books. I definitely want to sign up after seeing your creation!
July 24, 2008 09:05 PMThat looks SO good! Don’t tell the real bakers/chefs, but I love Cool Whip more than fresh whipped cream and it’s so much more convenient. I get the Kraft Foods magazine and also love it. Don’t remember that recipe from a few years ago, but probably got it then. Thanks for passing it on. Love the Nutter Butter crust.
July 24, 2008 09:35 PMOooh, that looks nice and refreshing. I could, you know, maybe help finish it off. Ya know, help clear out some space in your freezer?

I loved when they sent the calendars as well, but they no longer do. They felt that they wanted to put more into the magazines and got rid of the calendars… sad day!

I love this magazine! I look forward to getting it every time it comes and probably look at it over and over for a week. What a tasty treat you made. Sounds like a good idea making it in individual ramekins.

ashleyd – it rocks!
elizabeth – make some for me, too!
July 29, 2008 01:32 AMOh my goodness, I have to bow down, I made this yesterday for our Sunday dinner with my father-in-law and it was DELICIOUS! I am so embarrassed, but between last night and today, I finished it off! It was awesome and a recipe I will definitely keep and do again. I made it with Safeway brand cool-whip and didn’t have enough to do the dollop on top but I didn’t miss it a bit.
August 5, 2008 01:57 AMStephanie – Don’t be embarassed. We’re all friends here and who hasn’t eaten a whole dessert before. I know I have.
August 6, 2008 12:48 AMfor those who don’t have access to cool whip (or don’t want to use it because it’s made of nothing but chemicals – ick!), use the real stuff – ACTUAL whipped cream. it will taste even better without the plasticky stuff!
August 6, 2008 11:22 AMi love the chocolate/pb combo, but is this mostly for people who love peanut butter? was wondering if i (a chocolate lover) should put another layer of chocolate in there, or just use more chocolate so there’s more balance between the pb/chocolate flavors.
August 6, 2008 06:56 PM-biblioops
That looks divine! Thanks for all your great recipes!
August 6, 2008 09:47 PMKrissy – true.

Suzanne – you’re welcome.
August 6, 2008 11:17 PMJust made these today (I don’t have enough ramekins, so I did it in a muffin pan) and they turned out great! My husband was rolling his eyes with each bite – this recipe is a keeper! Thanks!!!
August 14, 2008 01:44 AMYay! That’s awesome and I’m sure the muffin pans looked just as cute!
August 15, 2008 02:09 AMThis blog is like a dream come true! i love cool whip so much! i just squirt it into a 2 liter bottle and chug it all day long. it is such a nice pick me up, when i am having a bad day (you know the drill, suffering from indigestion, and wanting to beat the guy in the cubicle next to you with a bat)! But i don’t, cool whip really helps me keep my cool (no pun intended)!
September 1, 2008 04:05 PMYou are just so great to think of people outside the US and Canada…Greetings from Budapest :-)
