Pop Star: Sabrina in New York

“I am writing you to thank you for your inspiration. About 2 yrs ago I got laid off from my job at a brokerage firm which happened to coincide with the birth of my first child. What was meant to be a happy time in my life turned into chaos, my son was colicky, my husband worked around the clock to compensate for my job loss and my father in law developed cancer. It was a rocky year (or so..) but when thanksgiving came around I wanted to make something great for dessert and I came upon your website. I made some cupcake pops and they were such a huge hit it inspired to make some more, and more….and more. The reception they got was just the fuel I needed to fire up my creativity again after years of disuse. Cake pops have been the perfect hobby for me since I became a stay at home mom, since I can’t always get out of the house and you can do it alone! But more than that I think it has given me an opportunity to pursue my own business. After 2yrs of unemployment and frustration with tirelessly searching for a job, being disappointed and fearing my marketability to the workforce is declining with each dirty diaper I change, making cake pops gave me the motivation to say why not to possibilities beyond what I had thought of for myself. For that I must thank you.” – Sabrina

Sabrina – Your story warms my heart. I included your email… I hope it inspires others as well.

  1. Hi ladies, that’s for the support!
Lillian; I used betty crocker gingerbread cake mix but I wasn’t in love with the taste. I think spice cake may be a better option.
Holly;congrats & good luck, it will only get better!
Jennifer; you can add some vegetable shortening or veg oil to thin out the coating and that will make is smooth. Just try not to add to much or it wont dry properly. I hope that helps! :)

  2. Love these! How did you get the chocolate so smooth??? Mine look lumpy and not right…

  12. Well done Sabrina, I hear where you’re coming from! I lost my real estate job while on maternity leave and I didn’t want to go back to the real world anyway with a gorgeous toddler I’d rather be at home with, so now I’m running what has become a rapidly growing cake decorating business. So I say HOORAY for mumpreneurs and I wish you all the best! :D
