It’s National Cake Pops Day!

Happy February and Happy National Cake Pops Day, too! Whoohoo!

Or is it Cake Pop Day? It is in the photo above anyway. You know, so I could have POP centered in the card above … The S would have totally thrown off my graphic. : ) And I added International, too. Cake Pops bring smiles everywhere, right.

Can you believe it’s been five years today … five! … since I first posted these cupcake pops. Reading that post now makes me smile. I had no idea then of how incredibly popular they would become or that people all over the world would be making them. And if someone had told me then that I’d have books based on that little cupcake on a stick … or even better … a toy. Ha! I would have told them they were from crazy town. So I’m glad no one told me that because I might of sabotaged myself if I knew what was coming. But just letting things unfold and having fun making cake pops and sharing them with all of you has brought so much joy and amazingness in many more ways than I could have ever imagined. Plus, I love living in crazy town.

Anyway, last year I thought that February 1st as the anniversary, would be a sweet day to celebrate a treat that takes part in the celebrations of so many. So this year, I’m excited it’s also on Foodimentary’s calendar of national food holidays for February 1st. Yay!

Love Cake Pops?

  • Raise your hand if you’ve seen them at a party, or made them, or just eaten them.
  • Give yourself a shout out if you sell them or share them with others.
  • Say hi if you have. I love hearing how they’ve impacted lives in so many unexpected ways.

Below are a few of my pops from the last five years. I was trying to pick a favorite, but I don’t think I can anymore. The cupcake pops will always be nearest and dearest to my heart, but man those Garfield pops are too much. I didn’t even remember making them until I started looking back at some of my photos.

Anyway, I hope these brighten your day … and maybe give you a little smile, too.

  • And please, link up some of your own cake pops below. Who’s making Valentine Pops?
  • I’d love to see what you’ve been dipping and decorating and especially all of the countries you’ve been doing it from.

Hi… Hugs… and Happy Cake Popping!

I made cake pops for the first time one Christmas, and after that my mom thought we should make them for my niece… that is, when she was born, we would have little pink cake pops with a girly J initial on them to give to people who came up to visit her in the hospital. Instead of bubble gum cigars. They were vanilla cake with some orange cream cheese frosting I had already made up for another goodie. I’ve made a few more, but I believe that combo is still my favorite today! Thanks for helping us with the sweet memory! :)

Bakerella- you are such an inspiration. This is such an exciting day for you. You have such a sweet and generous heart. It is so amazing that you freely do tutorials on your websites to walk anyone through how to do what you do. Your cake pops have been such a relaxing thing for me. After my grandma passed away, I felt such a void in my life. My husband works night shifts so most nights I am at home alone. Baking was something that my grandmother loved to do and now that I have stretched myself in this exciting baking world, baking has really been a great outlet for me to still feel connected to my grandma. I remember growing up baking with her in the kitchen. It brings back such wonderful memories. I can’t wait for the day that I can be in the kitchen baking with my own children one day and then my own grandchildren! My mom is always helping me mold and dip new fun cake pop creations and we recently started taking a Wilton decorating class together. Truly such a fun time together. Thank you for all that you do. I think that you truly bless people’s lives more than you will ever know. Just reading through some of these comments on here has filled my heart with such joy. I hope that you have a wonderful cake pop anniversary! :D

I think it should definitely be cake pops day, with the S. Cake pops are small enough that you can always have more than one, so they should always be pluralized :)

I’ve been following your blog for years now. Not since the very beginning, but you hadn’t been around long when I stumbled upon you. In a way, following a blog is similar to reading a really good book. You are given a window into another person’s life, and even though you’ve never met them you become emotionally tied in with their ups and downs. Aside from the obvious deliciousness and beauty of each creation, I love following your blog because you tell such a wonderful story with every post. You find the positive in everything, and have a knack for being able to spread joy with your words and photos. Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with all of us for all these years.

Congrats on 5 years!

My favorite cake pop is the kidney, because it has a special place in my heart! My dad has had two kidney transplants.

We gave our only daughter a cake pop kit for Christmas and we have really enjoyed creating together. Thankfully they are looking better each time we make them. I would like to attempt the kidney for my dad’s birthday.

Thanks Bakerella!

That’s so cool to know! I love making cake pops, and maybe eating a few too ;-) This past Summer, I was riding my bike in a 3 day charity ride that raised money for the pediatric hospital that I work at. To help raise the money I needed to ride, I created a “Cake Pop of the Month Club”. Every month for a year I make a batch of cake pops and divy them up between the people that “joined” and sponsored me. I also would make batches and bring them into work and put a collection jar out. I was able to meet my goal and beyond!

I have made cake pops, but I am terrible at them. I can’t even make them round, so I make slightly lopsided rectangular pops. Everyone keeps telling me it’s what’s on the inside that counts, but I hope to someday make cake pops that are beautiful like the ones featured here!

Happy cake pop anniversary!!! :) I’m in love with cake pops since I saw them in your blog for the first time. Thanks for sharing.
I remember I bought your book and made my first cake pops two years ago. 2 -3 years ago it was difficult to find in Barcelona things like candy melts. I still remember how difficult to find Crisco was… and I thrilled when I can finally buy one ;)

My first cake pops were pig pops. After those, I made frogs, Christmas tree, Easter pops, Sesame Street, Hello Kitty… You can see some of them if you want here and here

I made cake balls for my friend’s wedding last August. Her grandpa ran around the tables shoveling “lost” cake balls into his mouth, trying to be all sneaky so her aunt wouldn’t catch him.

Here’s a picture from her photographer:

More recently I made over 200 for Christmas gifts. :)
