Peep Show

IMG_2010

I bought these little guys thinking I might use them for some kind of Easter cupcakes. I mean, they are cute in a marshmallowy sugar kinda way.

IMG_2060

And look how much cuter they are on sticks. (couldn’t resist.)

IMG_2249

But, then as they lay in the kitchen next to my handy dandy edible ink pens, I thought about something else I could do with them. Something a little less Easter, and potentially a lot more fun.

IMG_20602

So I grabbed my red and black pens, turned these little guys over on their tummies and went to town. Oh, and I pinched their ears, too.

Don’t laugh. I was bored.

Peeps + pens =

IMG_2190

Pikachus or in this case … Peep-achus!

I don’t think I can ever look at Peeps the same way again.

FYI… Pikachu is part of the Pokémon franchise owned by Nintendo. They’re not something I know a whole lot about, but they were on my mind because I had just recently bought some Pokémon stuff for my friend’s daughter who has been collecting these things for awhile.

IMG_3047

See what I mean. There are like hundreds of these strange little creatures that belong to the Pokémon family, but Pikachu is the only one I know of by name and as you can see, pretty conducive to a Peep makeover. I couldn’t wait to surprise her with them.

IMG_2988

She squealed when they saw them and her little brother was pretty excited, too. Just seeing them smile makes me happy. Totally worth it.

Okay, so I mentioned Nintendo earlier for a reason. Have any of you ever played the Nintendo DS? Because my niece got one for Christmas along with the Super Mario Bros. game and I have become a-d-d-d-ddddicted to it. She’ll come over to stay sometimes and when I pick her up, I’m like… “Sweetie, do you want to bring your Nintendo?” and “Don’t forget the charger.” (Insert evil laugh)

IMG_9220

We’ll sit on the sofa together and take turns. Well, she usually gets 10 turns to my one. Then, when I do get a turn, I usually die right away. But she, graciously offers to help … by taking it away from me … to show me what I did wrong! Then I wait another ten turns before I get another go. I should just buy one for myself, but, i’m scared to own it. I definitely wouldn’t get much done until I could finish World 8. Besides, it’s too much fun when we play together. Well, when I watch her play. :)

Anyway, you guys can see what I mean because I’m giving away one of these players! Yippee! (Super Mario Bros. not included.) Thank me later.

Not only am I giving one away, but I’m giving away the BRAND NEW Nintendo DSi. It was released TODAY! Lucky.

Music Capability.
Photo capability.
Bigger screen.
Basically, awesome!

    puzzleyou@gmail.com

  10. I squealed when I saw the Peepachus too – he’s always been my favourite! (younger brothers…)

Here in Australia we have Red Tulip Elegant bunnies. I never buy Red Tulip chocolate any other time (not even sure it’s available at other times), but Easter is not complete without my Elegant Rabbit.

And choc chip Hot Cross buns…yum.

  11. I know it’s boring but I just love the little solid cadbury eggs. We have about 200 in the fridge at the moment!

  12. Cadbury Eggs cause me to gain at least 10 pounds around Easter. Honestly, it’s worse than Christmas weight-gain! I’m so thankful that they are only around for a short time every year.

My son would kill for this DSi. He is in college and going through his Pokemon stage AGAIN!

    Thanks :)

  13. wow!! thanks for the chance!!
My fav would have to be the good old so-sweet-you-can-feel-your-teeth-rot Cadbury Cream Egg!

  14. The mini cadbury eggs with the hard candy coating~just something about them I crave!!!

  15. Oh its a tie between the cadbury eggs and the marshmallow bunnies! LOVE chocolate!
    kdscoresby@comcast.net

  16. I’ve never had or seen peeps in real life, I need to be Stateside some Easter to try them.

Over here in the UK I love Cadburys mini creme eggs. I prefer the ratio of chocolate to creme in them compared to regular creme eggs.

  17. I love those little Russell Stover candy boxes that show up at every holiday, but that’s not really an Easter-specific candy. Fortunately, I also love caramel Cadbury eggs, even so far as to love them more than the creme eggs. I know, sacrilege.

  18. Totally has to be Robin’s Eggs for me and Cadbury Eggs for my husband. I have been getting such a kick out of reading your blog and seeing your tasty photos! Thanks for a chance to win. :)

  26. THESE I could make, or do – or color! LOL! So cute! I have an 8yo Poke’Mon fanatic, he loved seeing these.

My favorite easter candy are jelly beans! Oh, and those colored malted eggs – that you can lick and then color your lips with, though the ones now-a-days do not work as well…

    Thanks!!

  27. Red Tulip hollow bunnies – you get them in Australia, and this is my second Easter without them :( Sadly they don’t travel well!!

  28. I love chocolate bunnies, malted milk robins eggs and the reese’s PB Eggs!! thanks!! I luv yer blog!

jailin dot acevedo at gmail dot com

  30. I absolutely love your Easter Cake Pops!!!!!!! Each one is cuter than the next! Speaking of cute….the yellow smiley face cake pops are the cutesy EVER!!!!! (why won’t my brand new food writer pens work on these???) I am a long standing fan of the Cadbury Egg (goes GREAT with a Diet Coke, but doesn’t everything?). My family is a bit worried about me as I am making cake pops EVERY day! Raerae00@aol.com

  31. my favorite easter candy would have to be the chocolate bunnies…there’s something satisfying about biting an ear off! [insert wicked laugh] when i was little i used to love those marshmallow type part egg, part jellybean shaped candy coated things…i don’t remember the names but i know i can’t stand them anymore! blech! they were so cheap that we’d get them in every plastic egg and more in our easter basket…with the one lone chocolate bunny.

  32. FAVORITE EASTER CANDY..White chocolate bunnies!!! I usually get enough of them that I am still nibbling at Christmas!!jmontpet@twcny.rr.com

  33. My usual favorite is robin eggs, with malted milk yumminess inside of them… yummm. However, this year on a whim I purchased the mini cadbury chocolate eggs… oh my! So, so good! :) Definitely a new favorite!

  34. My favorite are Peeps.. and I know this sounds weird.. but I like them a little stale. :)

    joyadee@gmail.com

  38. Hollow bunnies with Smarties bouncing around inside!

  39. I don’t think we have any elaborate Easter candy here in Belgium. We just have little chocolate eggs filled with all sorts of stuff… Or large chocolate Easter bunnies… Hey I do live in a country known for its chocolate (Belgium) =D
So, I’m happy with plain old chocolate eggs =)

  40. Egg shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups :D So YUMMY! Even better when frozen. schun9@gmail.com

    leekriceball@yahoo.com

  44. Dark chocolate of any kind for Easter (or any occasion) is my favorite!

  45. its has to be cadburys creme egg!

I bite the top off, then lick the centre out – yummmmmmmmmmmmmy :) xxxxx (inserts my evil laugh hahahaha)

  46. Here in Spain we do not have a lot of Easter candies, but yes some Chocolate eggs. And they are delicious…..
    martagongra@hotmail.com

  47. Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs!! Oooh I have gone through about 5 boxes of them already! :/

  48. I love any chocolate candy, Mmmmmm….
    Thank you for your giveaway.

  49. I lOVE Peeps Rabbits and the chocolate covered marshmallow bunnies that are thin. A peanut butter Reeses egg couldn’t be passed by, either! Jelly beans are also a fav if they are just the regular ones – no fancy brands.

  50. Cadbury eggs are my fave! But I also like the marshmallow filled chocolate bunnies–the small ones. And the Snickers eggs are pretty yummy. Oh and the little speckled egg gum. That’s good too. I’m sure there are others… LOL

  51. My two favorites because I couldn’t just choose one…reese’s peanut butter-chocolate eggs and candy coated whooper malt balls. As a little girl, I would lick the outside of the whoppers and rub the colors on my lips like lipstick :-D

  52. My favorite Easter candy is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg. The peanut butter to chocolate ratio is perfect……I also am a sucker for some Peeps!!!! Thanks for the giveaway!!!! I can’t wait!

    formeitsthree(at) yahoo (dot) com

  53. Candy Canes and Easter Eggs themselves! The color dyed hard boiled eggs.

    kindrawoo[at]gmail[dot]com

  54. Jelly beans! Can’t wait for the sales to grab a couple of bags. (:

    jessicaph88@hotmail.com

  55. Both my boys LOVE pokemon, and I love your idea with the peeps. They have been begging me for a DS, and I said no — never plan to buy one. BUT if I won one, that would literally be a miracle for them. haha. I love the jelly beans from Skittles~! turquoise colored ones are my favorite~ yum~~~

  56. Cadbury Creme Eggs & Marshmallow Peeps!!! Love your blog by the way! :)

  57. When I was a little girl I had to have a chocolate easter bunny. It had to be hollow, and I was one of those kids that ate the ears first. However, I used to cry every time I actually bit into it because I didn’t want to hurt the bunny. In the end, my love for chocolate won out and I gobbled him down. It was ok once I got through the first bite! Kitten’s Kitchen

  58. I live with two pokemon obsessed boys! Thanks for the Pokemon pops…you are going to make me a cool mom! BTW, I love, love, love Reese’s peanut butter eggs. They taste better than any other Reese’s product. Just the right ratio of PB to chocolate!
    annintheuk@gmail.com

  59. I love the Cadbury Creme eggs! So yummy!

  60. its funny this subject should come up.. lol. i just went to the store today. n didn’t realize just how many different candies are out there. ‘whoppers milkshake, vanilla’?? just tried those. and ‘kisses with coconut creme’? lol. but i hafta say GOOD OL PEEPS!! kekahuliilii@yahoo.com

  61. Wow! You are one generous lady!

My current Easter obsession is Cadbury Creme Eggs, but I absolutely love hot cross buns too. I haven’t had any this year, must go and buy some for the weekend!

  62. Cadbury mini eggs! The best invention yet !

  63. Cadbury Mini Eggs. Every year. This year I realized that I can get sick by eating too many. My mom used to hide bags of them from me when I was a kid, but I knew where they were. Haha!! Can’t hide chocolate from a child.
Oh and Nintendo DS? I have one, but I wanted the ice blue one. My boyfriend refused to buy that one for me because HE didn’t like the color. I am so psyched about the new DSi! (yes I am 30 and I used “psyched”

  64. cadbury mini eggs! i buy bags of them after easter on sale!

  65. My absolute favorite Easter candy is a nice big bag of jelly beans… some good, plain ol’ fashioned, none of the fancy flavors jelly beans.

Peeps are a close second :)

  66. Love, love, love the chocolate bunnies although I get the hollow ones now.
By the way those 5 are:
MewTwo, Bastiodon, Glameow, Mew and Lucario.
My 7 year old wants to make sure I mention that Mew Two is a clone of Mew just in case you didn’t know that.LOL
As for the Pikachu peeps I LOVE THEM!!! I will be making those for my son’s 8th birthday I can’t wait to see his face.

  67. Marshmallow Peeps – chicks or bunnies! Can’t do the blue ones though…they just look like they are suffocating in the package! Also, can’t do the ugly red Target peeps either. It’s just weird!

Oh, can’t forget the classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg. Perfection.

  68. I love eating the cute little chick peeps back when I was 5. I miss them dearly.

I love your version of a pikachu peep. so adorable!

  69. The Cadbury Great Bunny – I eat the purple egg first, then I eat the bunny for dessert. :D

  70. A) Those Pikachu are so adorable! I’ve always loved [him/her?] since the Pokemon series came out!
    B) I must have a Hershey’s chocolate bunny each year (well, this year it’s in my 10 month old’s basket, but of course, she will be “sharing” with Mommy!) It has to be hollow though, otherwise I would eat it all in one sitting and be sick!
    C) I too am addicted to the DS! I got one for Christmas, and it is a great time killer when bored!
    D) I would love a DSi, since I don’t have a laptop, and they no longer make the web browser for the DS. So *fingers crossed*, mgrimes20(at)yahoo.com

    :)

  71. I love robin eggs! yummy!

  72. Nothing beats a chocolate bunny

  73. I love peeps and chocolate bunny.
    the pikachu is sooo cutee…

  74. Robin Eggs are the best! My mom told me about this contest and I would LOVE to win (because she said otherwise I had to wait until my birthday in August for a DSi.)

  75. Did I even say thank you for all the wonderful ideas? I’m sorry.

    Thank you!

  76. My very favorite is Cadbury mini eggs and my son wants the Easter Bunny to bring a DSi so this would be a dream come true!

  77. Oh, definitely Cadbury Eggs. I’m glad they’re only out once a year because I have no self-control.

  78. How can you afford all these giveaways? Do you have a sponsor? I wish I knew the names of the Pokemon; it seems like a reasonable requirement for your contest. Also, I think the Pikachu makeover was amazing and I’m going to have to do it for my little boys. And btw, my favorite candy at Easter are the Scotch-mallow eggs from See’s. kingston-koko@gci.net You’re a hoot!

  79. Cadbury Orange Cream Easter Egg hands down the best. Chocolate with orange….heaven.
    dteoh@sbcglobal.net

  80. Reese’s White Chocolate PB eggs are my weakness

  81. Cadbury Mini Eggs. The candy coating is the tastiest there is, and the chocolate is melt-in-your-mouth.

I think I need to go to the store…

  82. I love any chocolate with peppermint! Yummy! =)

  83. Reese’s peanut butter egg.

  84. Definitely Reeses, and definitely frozen.

  85. I loooooooove Reese’s peanut butter eggs! They are totally addictive and I’m glad they are only available for a short time each year!

  86. every Easter I have to get the candy coated malt balls – robin eggs. you just can’t get them any other time of year.

  87. Oh, how totally cute! My candy-lovin’, Pokemon-addicted eleven-year-old nephew would just gobble these guys down! Really great idea!

My favorite Easter candy has to be the Cadbury Mini Eggs. Something about that matte candy shell, mmmm! This is a great contest. I’ve been a big Nintendo fan since I was young, playing Donkey Kong at a stand-up arcade in our local Safeway. I want a DSi, but until I can afford one, I’m totally happy with my regular DS (it’s not even a DS Lite, it’s one of those really huge and bulky DSs). Thanks for this opportunity!

    val at kelandval dot com

  88. Cadbury Creme Eggs. I can have them every day. All year.

  89. I LOVE Reese’s Easter Eggs. SO YUMMY!

  90. DEFINITELY Cadbury Mini-Eggs…I could eat them year-round.

  91. See’s Scotchmallow Eggs.. carmel, marshmallow, dipped in dark chocolate. And just something about egg shaped candy, it just tastes better… ;)

  92. We don’t celebrate easter here but when my brother or sister came back from UK when they lived there, they used to buy for me hollow chocolate snowman (white choc) and hollow chocolate santa (milk choc). It’s probably way common in the states or in countries where they celebrate Easter, but for me, its heaven on earth cos its usually good quality chocs. Anyway, closest thing that I’ve done for easter projects (in primary school when I was young) is painting edible agar filled eggshells. My mom used to make those for us to paint on the outside. Love those.

  93. Reeses peanut butter eggs. I don’t know why I love them so much more than the regular kind. Maybe because they seem a little bit bigger so I think I’m eating more. I love love them lots!

    ssiulua@gmail.com

  94. Gourmet chocolate truffles! Mmmm. Really though, I’ll take anything that contains chocolate.

  95. You are too much! I love malted milk eggs. The kind with the white hard shell that is speckled with colors! I always bite them in half first then pop the remaining half in. Reminds me of being a kid again.

  96. So very cool! I love seeing what you’ll come up with next!

  97. Only Cadbury Chocolate!!!

  98. Peanut butter and chocolate!!

    ~K!

    http://www.kismet.blogs.com

  99. Marshmallow peeps absolutely; I remember eating waaay too many with my Dad on Easter mornings. Oh and those malted milk balls eggs! Although those little lamb cake pops may soon be my favorite Easter goodie. A new DSi would make for one sweet Easter basket though!

  100. REESE'S ALL THE WAY!:)) They're definitely my fave>:)

  101. Solid milk chocolate Easter bunnies! My dad used to get us one every year.

    cynthia
    jacks508(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

  102. reese’s pb eggs. no doubt. maybe i should try them on a stick this year!

  103. Cadbury Caramel Eggs…oh my…I have a stash hidden in a high cabinet & I'm a bad Mom, because if my kids catch me eating one I say…."Oh, sorry sweetie, it's the last one!" The poor things keep falling for it…a DSi would totally make it up to them for their mother lying to them for weeks!

  104. My favorite Easter candy is the malted milk eggs with chocolate and the hard candy shell. Those are the best. Nobody else in the family eats them, so I always allow myself to buy one bag and eat it all myself. I try not to eat it all in one sitting, but that takes a great deal of willpower. That’s why I only get one bag per year!
    memories4u@e-z.net

  105. This is PEEP-Tastic!! My 6 year old loves Pokemon! (but it’s hard to find Pokemon treats!) So thank you for the great idea. I’m going to give it a try. My favorite Easter treat would be Crunch Eggs!

  106. Cadbury cream eggs are my all-time favourite Easter treats!

  107. I just LOVE Cadbury Creme Eggs! Thing is, I like to eat the filling first then enjoy the chocolate shell. It does make a sticky mess though..

    jean.moon.lee@gmail.com

  109. Cadbury eggs with ooey, gooey filling. :)

  110. Peeps all the way are my fav.

  111. Adorable! I loooooove peeps. They are my fav! I’ll even eat them stale…most of the time that is my preference. It sounds a little strange, but it is yummy! Thanks again!

  112. Reese’s! Reese’s! Reese’s! but those are year round aren’t they…

for easter specific I gotta go with the bunny shaped Reese’s … so much fun to bite their ears off !

  115. I know this isn’t technically Easter but I love Jelly Bellies at Easter over any other jelly bean.

  116. Ohhhhhh I am a nintendo junkie!

I LOVE hollow chocolate characters. No chocolate all year tastes anything like the hollow characters. I wait all year and then the day after easter, I spend 20$ at Wal Mart and take home a cart of chocolate spidermans! (Spidermen..?)

    http://www.inspirecakes.blogspot.com

  122. Peeps are definitely the best!! Thankfully they even make them for other holidays now too!

  123. You should have seen my mOuth drop Open when you said we had to name Pokemon characters….Clueless, paryt of one!

and don’t laugh…but my fav Easter basket treat is ….Beef Jerky! My mom always added that and corn nuts or sunflower seeds since I’m not much of a milk choco fan……anyhoo…you ASKED!

    wedogs@sbcglobal.com

  124. wow, so many comments … i just have to be a part of it! :) my favourite easter dessert is velikono?na potica, a type of nut roll with lots of rum soaked raisins! :)

  131. Do they make dark chocolate easter bunnies? I’ll take THAT!

  135. Smuckers or Starburst Jelly Beans!!!!

  136. you never cease to amaze me with your ingenuity!
i would have never seen anything other than peeps walking by them at the store…but somehow you come up with them looking like Pikachu! you are amazing!
Peeps are definitely one of my easter favorites…but now when i see these yellow peeps i will think of you :)

  137. White Chocolate easter bunnies. Yum. http://www.willonanza.blogspot.com

  138. Reester Eggs! Extra peanut buttery!!!

  151. Definitely Cadbury cream eggs. I would move to England if I could have these year-round.

    crarino:at:gmail:dot:com

  156. Hands down…the Cadbury eggs!

  157. Cadbury Eggs! That weird goo gets me every time. I love them, even they’re so sweet they make my teeth hurt.

  158. Cadbury eggs, but only the BIG ones…screw those mini guys, I want the honkin’ dudes with tons of gooey filling! Also I love the See’s easter candies; the little foil eggs for snacking and the big filled ones for sheer decadence.

  159. Whoppers Robin Eggs. I bestow many of these on my kids in the hopes that I get a few! Yummers!

  160. I really love the Reese's Easter Eggs! Anything Reese's, actually~ ?

    so.jamtastic@gmail.com

  161. My favorite all time Easter basket candy would have to be the Reese’s Eggs. The marketing department is totally genius this year with their milk chocolate bunny and jar of peanut butter “making” the Easter treats.

    xo,
    Jess

  162. Oh gosh, hot pink Peeps are the BEST! I tried to go with green last year for a change of pace, but they just don’t do it. They have to be hot pink and slightly stale. Mmm.

  163. I love cadbury eggs…so bad but so good!

    email: elizabethdougherty23@yahoo.com

  164. jelly beans!

  165. Naming the Pokemon is easy (Mewtwo, Sheildon, Glameow, Mew and Lucario), naming my favourite Easter sweet is far more difficult and depends on which country I am in.
In the UK it is a Cadbury’s Creme Egg, In Denmark it is liquer filled sugar eggs. Guess who is very lucky this year, having just visited my Mum in Denmark :o)

  166. These are adorable. I like peeps, oh bunnies, oh and red jelly beans, can I pick more than one? Thanks for the chance.

  167. Peeps is my all time favorite Easter candy.

  168. That’s just brilliant!!!!!!

  178. It was all about the Cadbury Eggs..

  183. Cadbury Eggs for me please!! I use to be able to fit four of them in my mouth in my younger days.. No kidding four!!!! Now I just buy them for tradition..

  184. I love those huge chocolate bunnies they have around Easter. The bigger the better really. Its been kind of a sport to find a bigger one each year! Easter does usually end up being a chocolate overload day.

  185. I love Cadbury eggs–especially the caramel ones! Yum!

  186. i absolutely love jelly beans – yellow jelly beans to be exact! but they are ranked right up there with hollow chocolate bunnies – yum yum :)

  187. Those are awesome! (I just started reading last week – I love it!)

My favorite Easter candies are the solid milk chocolates in the shape of eggs wrapped in colored foil.

2nd favorite is the Cadbury egg – but mainly because I can rarely find them where I live. And when I do get my hands on them – too sweet! But in my head I love them.

  188. Cadbury mini eggs – YUM! Just made your Hello Kitty pops for my daughter’s 6th birthday – they were a hit!

  189. Hi!
In Norway we have a “Chocolate Orange”, from the producer Freia. It is a large round chocolate, in shape and taste of… yes, you guessed it – Orange. To eat it, you have to smash it on the table or on the floor, to separate the individual orange “filets”. It divides into 20 little chocolate pieces. Lots of fun! The same producer also makes e carton of 4 little chocolate eggs, filled with a creamy, milky filling. You crack the top of, and eat it with a spoon. Yam!

  190. Cadbury eggs are too good to pass up, so sugary they may leave you a coma… but who doesn’t love that!

  191. Just 1 favorite? Ok, my tip top favorite is the Reese's peanut butter egg (chocolate & peanut butter you can not go wrong). However, original Cadbury cream eggs are a really close second.
I just *love* your blog and when you hooked up with PW it was fabulous!

  192. Those Peeps are the best! My favorite Easter Candy were the candy coated whoppers that looked like speckled easter eggs…I remember licking them and using them as lipstick…my mom always hated when I chose to use the blue ones right before we had to go to church for Easter service…good times!

  193. Cadbury Eggs – hands down!
    dadomcha@gmail.com

  194. LOL! Those are too funny! I saw peeps in colorful colors at walfart (orange, blue, green…) They must be new.

I have been wanting a nintendo DS for a couple yrs now, and Santa won’t bring me one. lol Those games look fun!

Anyways, I love these weird marshmallowy/or stale like (not sure how to explain them) eggs and I forget the company name. They are bright colors, individually wrapped.

    Oooh, I found them: http://www.candywarehouse.com/wrappedeggs.html

  195. Well, the weirdest thing I like is the Cadbury egg. Yum! Also the hollow See’s bunnies and Reese’s PB eggs. All too too good.

I was all set to drag my boys over to the screen and get them naming. Perhaps I would have had an edge on the 1000+ comments already! Wow!

    Thanks for the chance :)
