Thaaank You, Betty!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

This recipe may be harmful to certain New Year’s Resolutions. Proceed at your own risk!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

When it comes to sweets, I really have very simple tastes. If it’s chocolate, then brownies are pretty much a home run. And well, if it’s a cookie, then chocolate chip is all I need. So, when I came across a recipe from the Betty Crocker website for Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies there was only one thing to do. Race to the grocery store and pick up a couple of things.

One Betty Crocker Brownie Mix and one Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Cookie mix. I’m sure these would work with scratch recipes too, but Betty has made it so easy. She’s so nice.

Here’s what the packages look like.

Betty Crocker, baby!

Follow the directions on the box for making the brownies and pour into a greased 13 X 9 pan. I use a glass one with a lid like this.

Brownie Batter

Make the cookie mix as directed on the pouch and drop by rounded tablespoons into the brownie batter. You’ll want to press the dough down lightly.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownie Batter

Bake for 35-40 minutes in a 350 degree preheated oven. When they’re done, take them out and let them cool completely. For about an hour.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

Then, you can frost them with chocolate frosting or for a yummier version, do what I did.

Whip up some chocolate ganache. (Recipe below) Pour it on top and spread it out evenly.

Chocolate Ganache

Now, this is the hardest step.

Leave it alone. That’s right, you’ll want to let the ganache set up. It will be tough, but you can do it.

Chocolate Ganache

Once the ganache has set, then cut the brownies and enjoy.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

Man, these look good.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

Here, let’s take a closer look just to be sure.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

Yep, they look good. And they tasted great! Thanks Betty!

Happy New Year and sorry in advance for ruining any of your resolutions. But, let’s face it, they probably wouldn’t last anyway. So go ahead and treat yourself.

Make these brownies:

  • Let stand about 20 seconds and stir until smooth.
  • Pour over brownies and let set before cutting.

I ended up giving into temptations and eating some before it completely settled. It was worth it.

  17. I sent a batch of these to work with my husband today. They were all gone within 10 minutes and hie coworkers wanted to know if he was holding any back! Such good flavor for so little effort (and not very many dishes!) I’m going to try substituting peanut butter cookie dough next time.

    Thanks for sharing with us!

  18. what a wonderful blog ! Your pictures are beautiful and your recepies looks delicious !
    You are really talented.

  19. OMG!!!!!!!!
These look fabulous! It’s 11:00 at night but I’m going to the grocrey store-right now!

I made your Cake pops for my 44th birthday Bowling Party. They were a giant hit-duh!

    Keep the yumminess coming!

  20. Oh my heaven. How can you just post something this atomic on the web. Do you have any idea how hard it will be now to keep to my diet??

  21. How could you do this to me? I’m going to have to host a party so I won’t be tempted to eat the entire tray. Numnum.

  22. WOW.

    I think I have a new fav.

    I’ll follow you anywhere!

    thanks again

  23. I made these two days ago… Holy delicious. I would make them any day of the week, whether I had an excuse or not!

  24. After reading that post I feel a great affection for you, Bakerella!

  25. Oh. My. God.

How did I miss these?! Those look incredible!!

And, don’t worry, I didn’t make any resolutions so I’m all clear!

  26. I am going straight downstairs to make these NOW

  27. OMG!!!they are amazing!

  28. I made these 2 nights ago and they have been a hit! I skipped the ganache topping because I didn’t have the necessary ingredients. These are pure sin but in a good way:)

  29. I saw this recipe just yesterday when I was cheating and made Chocolate Chip cookies out of package. I wanted to try those brownies, but told myself no. After seeing this post, it is fate. I must make them!

  30. YUM! Makes my mouth water!
Your sprinkle jars inspired me! I went to Ikea and found spice jars and started filling them up! They look great on my wall! Most grown up think it is a bit odd, but all the kids that come over just stare at it in amazement with a HUGE smile on their faces! THANKS!

  31. I make these last night for a scout court of honor. It was great because my son wanted cookies and brownies but I didn’t want to do both. What a great solution. They were a great hit and were gone within minutes.

  32. Oh my sweet goodness, I got giddy just at the first photo. Thanks so much for sharing! I am off to buy the ingredients right now! Yay!

  33. I like the message on the photo

  34. Wendy aka CalvaryGirl – If I knew, I would tell you. But I had a someone alter the html code to the blogger template.

Tiffany @ Gone Country – Just show everyone the website and then they’ll make them too and you’ll all be on the same plan.

carrie leber – I felt that way too when I saw it

lisamaree – YAY! I love hearing things like that. So glad you were able to find what you needed in Hong Kong. Awesome.

Linda C – yeah, don’t even think about it.

    Yasemin – careful.

The Cutest Cottage Lamps – cool. what kind of cars?

We Are Not Martha – I know. I wish I was as smart as Betty and Martha.

abbie – that’s a nicer way to say drooling.

    Monika, Sweden – Me either!

    Leslie – hope you do

    Mimi

    more than I would like.
    No.
    Yes. A bunch of them.
More than I like and it’s usally for butter and not food.

Lisa @ The Hem Line – buy double because you’ll want more.

    Aphrodine – understandable

the penrods – Yes, I will. Hi!

Glad you tried them again with the freezer.

As for smoothness… It’s basically a lot of tapping and/or twirling. It allows the excess chocolate to fall off and smooth out.

  35. Will you even read your 158th comment? Who even knows.

BUT, I just have to say I love your cupcake pops. I just made them for a second time and found that using frozen balls, instead of refrigerated, made it go much smoother. I no longer felt like they weren’t worth the time.

Also, what’s your trick of getting the candy melts to go on so smoothly? Thanks for any tips, although I don’t expect you to have time to respond to all the questions. :)

  36. There is no way I could wait long enough to let them cool. I’m perfectly fine with warm, hot, gooey, chocolate ganache goodness thankyouverymuch.

  37. Thanks for completely destroying my diet only 2 weeks into the New Year! Just kidding!!! But what a way to go. Yikes I am getting the ingredients at the store tomorrow!

  38. OK, kiddo, ‘fess up! How much do you weigh and do you eat what you make? Do you have a mouth full of cavities? Do you have a sweet tooth? How much is your grocery bill?

You sure can bake! This weekend I’ll be having my grandsons for a sleep-over. Right now I am trying to decide which of your delights I should bake to impress those sweet, little boys!

  39. These look absolutely sinful! I MUST try them.

  40. I made those today, I’ve been eating half of the cake..
And of course a lot of cookiedoough left overs..

Lucky me I don’t have any new years resolutions :D

  41. Mmmm, I am officially salivating!

  42. Wow! This is an amazing idea! And one I never would have thought of. Droool.

    Sues

  43. Wow 150 comments! But I have to add mine too! I just found your blog and I LOVE IT! I am making those brownies for our next car club meeting! I’m adding you to my favorites list!!
    xxxooo
    Marilyn

  44. oh my my!!!! they look moree than deliciiiioouss! increadible! i’ll eat the monitor!!

  45. OMG – what a treat. I am scared to even think of calculating the weight watchers points!!

  46. Could you give us a more simple or delectable recipe to try? NO!!!

I made this yesterday (all the supplies are even available in Hong Kong) and it was quick and incredibly easy to whip up! The only change I made was to use real milk chocolate for the icing because my hubby doesn’t like ganache… and wowza… my daughter loved it so much when she woke up this morning and I asked her what she would like for breakfast, her answer was ‘brownie please!’
Definitely a big hit and oh my god…. YUM!!!

Thanks so much for sharing all your wonderful ideas!!

  47. that is the best recipe I’ve ever seen in my life! love it.

  48. I made these today. Soo yummy. Not going to help my Weigh-in Wed tomorrow though. For all of you who have new years resolutions to lose weight come and join me. The embarrassment I can hardly stand alone.

  49. These look awesome. Only you could make boxed mixes look like a piece of art ;) Tell me though- how do you make the background color change for your reply? Can I get that secret? *g*

  50. Stephanie – Yep, now you don’t have to feel guilty.

Candi – I love the batter too. And I’ve seen that pan. I keep thinking I will buy it, but I haven’t brought myself around to it.

    butterfly843 – you’ll enjoy it.

Tucker, Jess, and Brian – nope. not at all.

Kaylyn – 13 X 9. Mayfield is one. Check the milk section in your grocery store. It will probably be near the cartons of buttermilk. I also use the grocery store brand.

mamablingthing – Don’t make them too early or your kids will miss out.

    Lindsey – Applause!

    Bridget – yep

    Kim – yummmm

    Tequitia – have fun

elizabeth – thanks for saying so

    Shelley- they’re hard to beat.

Janna – stop what you’re doing and run to the store.

Beth – you’ll hate that you love me

Dallas_Bitchin’Kitchen – good if you like oatmeal

Michelle – that’s what you say now.

Michi – sounds like a plan

    Nibblestreats.com – sorry

    Karla – I won’t tell anyone

    Cake Thoughts – you’re welcome

Christy – you should make some

postcardgirl – just the name did it for me.

Katrina – make enough for me

    shirley elizabeth – that’s awesome!

    Mrs. U – Great, I’m sure

    Tina – perfect

Erin – I won’t have time to do that, but you can color white candy melts black with candy coloring. You can make the ears by squeezing round shapes of colored chocolate on wax paper. When dry, you can glue them with chocolate to the round cake pops.
If you use a small round cutter to cut a sliver off the bottom of the round ears, they will be easier to glue and fit on to the round shapes.

Rachelle – that was a test to see if anyone was reading. JJ. Seriously, I’m surprised no one saw that yet. Thanks, I’ll fix it.

    Mrs. Sugar Smitten – enjoy

Sonda T – yeah, great name

Sue – They love it too.

    Dawn – Oh, don’t wait.

    VegSF – they are

duodishes – you must. you really must.

teen baker – I use both. I’m def not against mixes. It’s great you like to bake. Keep it up.

    gala_amorous_productions – You’ll have a blast.

  51. I found your blog on another blog’s favs… and I love it! I got my first cake decorating book for Christmas and I can’t wait to start! You have given me such cute and fun ideas! LOVE IT!

  52. ahhh chocolate overload

by the way i am in love with your blog you have such skill and dedication! you also use scratch and mix just like a normal person [ many baking blogs look down on mix] you serve as such and inspriration and i wish i could get as much practice as you get!

  53. Oh my. Surely, this can’t be good for you. Which means that we must have.

  54. Those look fabulous and so easy! I must try them!

  55. Guess what I have in my pantry!! Both of these! I’m so making these for superbowl! TY

  58. Whoa! Yeah those are going to have to be made here pretty quickly!

  59. Yum! But I bet cream is much better ;)

    3/4 cup heavy whipping gream

  60. YUM! I am going to have to try these! I just make cheesecake brownies for similar reasons and liked how they turned out.

Would you please do me a HUGE favor?? My daughter’s birthday is next month and her school doesn’t let you bring anything with frosting on it to class. So I thought your cupcake pops would be PERFECT! But my soon to be 4 year old wants a “Minnie Mouse” theme…..Would you be willing to attempt a Minnie Mouse Pop for me to copy? I would forever be in your debt!

I have a link to you on my recipe blog. You can come check me out – and my mini sous chefs – at http://www.hauteplates.blogspot.com

    THANKS!

  61. Looks fantabulous! I’m all over that for a weekend scrap retreat :)
    Thanks for sharing!

  62. I am SO going to make these!! I’m going to use homemade brownie batter and homemade chocolate chip cookie dough, though, and see how it turns out.

I cannot WAIT to make this! All I need are the chocolate chips!!!

    His,
    Mrs. U

  63. So I made these last night (had to run to the store for some cream) for dessert with my sister and her husband. There were left over (it’s a ton and so rich!) even after leaving some with them so I was able to send some to work with my husband. I just received this text:

“Do you have a name for this brownie cookie thing? Seriously, it’s like the best dessert I’ve ever tasted.”

    Thank you :-)

  64. I made some just like this a few months back, even without the help of Betty! Yours look great and they taste awesome!
    http://kevnkoi.blogspot.com/2008/07/can-you-say-brownies.html
Now I want to make them again! :)

  69. HOLY MOTHER OF BROWNIES!!!! I gained weight just looking at them!

  70. I made these for dessert, and they’re AWESOME. Except, since I’m gluten-free, I had to make them gluten-free, so I made them all from scratch, and then added peanut butter to the ganache, Oh My God. (http://www.heythattastesgood.com/2009/01/all-in-one-bars.html)
Thank you thank you thank you thank you!

  71. YUMMMMMMMYYYYYY!!!! So I have come to the decision that my diet can be put on hold for a day. Sharing with my nephews, these will only last a few minutes with a glass of milk. Still drooling! =)

  72. Ugh, SO not good for my diet!!! Maybe I’ll make a batch, eat one, let the kids eat most of the rest, and then send them to school with my kids so I won’t eat them!!! Yeah, that’ll work…lol

  73. I wonder how it would taste with oatmeal cookie mix

  74. I love you for this! I hate you for this! I’ll decide which it is after I eat a few of these.

  75. I don’t know if I will be able to function like a normal person today after seeing those brownies. Holy Miracle! They look absolutely awesome! I want to make them now!

  76. WOW. I haven’t even tried this but I know this is my new favorite recipe. My two favorite things in the world together.

  77. Bakerella, what are you trying to do to us!?!

  83. What size pan did you use? And what are some brands for the heavy cream? Please email me nihaopanda@aol.com

  84. Amazing. Ummm … is it bad if I just want to take a spoon and eat the brownie batter and dollops of cookie dough, rather than eat the baked version? :P

  85. Two of my favorites together, can’t wait to try this recipe.

  86. Oh my! Is it bad that I could eat that whole pan of batter? It serioulsy looks THAT good! I don’t think I’d have enough left to actually cook!!

  98. My mouth is now watering! Thank you for a new fun treat.

  99. I just made these. They are delicious. I didn’t have the ingredients for the ganache, so I omitted that part. They are great even without it. Next time I will make sure to have some whipping cream in the house.

  100. Yum! I can’t wait to sink my teeth into one! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Maybe that’s what I’ll have for dinner…no kidding.
    I ? Bakerella

  104. wow, these look so good and deadly!

  105. I would definitely eat those, and I’m more of a cookie eater than a brownie eater.

    Yummy!

  106. oh man those look so good. Im famished right now from a skipped lunch. It’s a good thing I have four wild things here that a trip to the store scares me more than the desire to consume those bad boys… this is making my list of must make recipes though!

  107. yummy,they look divine!

  108. Ooh, I want one right now.

  109. My children will freak about these! 2 of their favorite things rolled up in one. I think a 1/2 batch with cream cheese frosting would be awesome! I love cookies and cream cheese, I mean cream cheese, plain bagel spread. So this would be awesome!

  110. Oh dear, now I’m craving those, they look delicious!

  111. Will Betty send you free stuff for blogging about her recipes? These mixes will certainly be on my grocery list!

  112. ***QUESTION***
Bakerella… i have 2 questions… 1. how on earth do u cut perfect brownie squares? what do u use??

Bakerella your photography is always so great, love the pictures.

  119. Oh yeah…what a great combination.. brownies and cookies. Thanks Bakerella and thanks Betty! You are my hero!

  120. Betty Crocker makes a box of Hershey’s Cookie Brownie Bars – you don’t have to buy the cookie dough separately! Sadly I know this because the box of evil spotted me at the grocery store last week…

  121. Two great mixes, one great brownie… who knew? I bet these will be made time and time again by lots of households… just the perfect brownie!

  122. These look evil. Evil, but delicious… Thanks for the recipe.

  123. Oh…my…goodness!!! One of those ‘why didn’t I think of that?’ kind of things!!! Lord knows I’ve eaten enough brownies and chocolate chip cookies…must’ve never eaten them together before! :)

  124. I wonder how many Weight Watchers ‘points’ one of these deadly bites might be… maybe 20 points? Hmm. Might be worth it anyway. hee hee

  125. this makes absoluetly no sense! these look soooo sinful. are they too rich tho?

  126. You are an evil woman posting all those close up pictures! I drooled all over my keyboard.

  133. this may be a silly question, but do you make the brownies thicker, or not? (adding an extra egg, I mean) I usually make the brownies not thick, but was wondering which method you chose? Thanks – love your site!

    Boss O x

  149. I just knew when I saw the first picture I never should have scrolled down…but I did. I could smell the brownies and taste the ganache. I even gulped at the site of it. Then I started chanting in my head “first on the lips, forever on the hips”. Let me tell ya, its not really working. Btw, great job on the basketweave, I just finished that class and i’m now learning to do tiered cakes and fondant. I’m having a bit of trouble making MMF (marshmallow fondant) though.

    I’ll fix it.

  160. These look great, but curious, 12 tablespoons is 3/4 cup–is there is reason to use the tablespoons, or would a cup work just as well?

  161. Wow! That looks really delicious! Two of my favourites combines to create such a delight. A challenge for next weekend =]

  162. Please DO NOT share this recipe with my 24 year old daughter…she will force me to make them for her and ship them fed ex. She makes me do these things…out of love and affection.
Who am I kidding….I make a double batch and keep one for us!

  163. I can’t believe I read this post 1 hour too late. My daughters were fighting over what treat we were going to make tonight. One wanted chocolate chip cookies, and the other wanted brownies.
