No, I haven’t taken up sewing. (Not yet anyway.) These adorable little buttons are all candy.
And, umm… they are like handmade.
Not by me, but remember my crazy talented, cupcake fanatic friend, Julie?
She made them for a friend’s baby shower using a fab tutorial from Bake it Pretty.
They are just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
The tutorial even includes a pdf for the labels so you can print them out at home and make your own packaging.
Julie made yellow, pink, green, orange and blue buttons with colored candy melts.
Just melt the candy and pour into a button mold. Let them dry and pop them right out.
Place them in small plastic bags and attach the labels. Just fold them in half and staple them together.
Or, if you’re crazy like Julie, then you make the labels work with your own wooden custom candy button display that your awesomely talented husband built for you.
Yeah, I’m sucking up in case he reads this and wants to make one for me, too.
So, instead of folding the labels in half, you can fold them in thirds. Two-thirds in front and one-third in the back so you have enough room to use a hole punch on the labels without messing up the graphics. And then just use a little double-sided tape to attach the labels to the bags.
Easy and like I said… cute as a button.
Julie also made these onesie sugar cookies for the shower. I’m gonna work on her to get this recipe because they were really good.

This is a question I always struggle with, so whenever possible, I find recipes that let me do BOTH: bake sweets AND make them look cute/pretty!
I think if I had to choose, though, baking sweets would be my top choice!

For me it depends on the day…but for the most part it is baking the sweets. With two young boys it is hard to find the time to make things look pretty.

BOTH! I would hate to make something that looked unpretty but at the same time would hate to spend hours making something look amazing to have it taste horrible!
If I had to chose though I would pick making it pretty. I enjoy taking that time to do the little details. I did a baby shower cake once that looked like a basket and had baby items in it. I even made the baby quilt look like it had been quilted by making it look stitched, so yeah, guess I enjoy the prettying of things I bake.

Personally I like to make things look pretty, if something looks horrible you assume it will taste horrible too. I love wrapping gifts, icing cookies and tying ribbons – all decoration and no substance here!

Nothing tastes as good as a pretty sweet. I just bought the button mold the other day. I am using it for a “b is for baby” shower. The favors will be “b is for bags of buttons”. I love that stand.

Depends on the day – sometimes I just need a little baked chocolate- doesn’t matter the look. Other times, looking to make things look pretty or fun – especially for special occasions. The stuff from Bake It Pretty would definitely help!
I am better at baking sweets that taste good than ones that look pretty. It’s my goal this year to leanr more about making them look as delicious as they taste sopeople will try them!

that is a tough one. I like both… but I think I like the baking process more, because of the smell and because I get to sample along the way. But in the end the “making it look pretty” is probably more satisfying.

I like to do both. To see someones expressions when they see something that you have made that is pretty…and you get that saying of “It is too pretty to eat!”. But what even makes it sweeter is when they take a bite and realize that it tastes as good as it looks. One goes hand in hand with the other.

Oooo, that’s a tough one, I think everything needs to spruced up, even bundt cakes in floral pans, so I’d vote to make the baked concoctions pretty- decorating also helps to make your dish taste better half the time too!
That’s a tough one. As much as I enjoy the baking part, I think my favorite thing is when I pull something beautiful out of the oven or spend some time making something that begins dull look lovely.

Making them “pretty”! I have two small boys and they absolutely LOVED decorating cookies for Santa. I gave them bowls of sprinkles and candies and icing and let them go at it. I had a “no lick” rule, but that went out the window after a few minutes with the icing. Oh well, they got THOSE cookies, ha ha.
I follow Bake it Pretty’s Tweets and saw these too. Just so cute. And the wooden stand makes the whole display perfect.

Ohh, my choice is not listed….eating them!! My daughter is our master decorator and baker. She wants to go to culinary school after High School and then own her own bakery. I love to make the dessert pretty. I spent over an hour coating and decorating cake pops for my niece’s birthday yesterday. I used 7 different sprinkles and then put them in a pattern in the container I bought so they looked like a bouquet of flowers. I have a picture of them if anyone wants to see. I even wrapped them like a basket of flowers. Pretty and presentation is def me.

I love these!!! I have really gotten into your blog as I am in charge of once a month programs for about 50 women. We are on budget so I am always looking for sweet touches to add beauty and something a little special. Since we are in Korea we have to be creative. I am going to have to try these! Too cute!
