These Pops Are Gonna Be Stars!

Remember these?
Cupcake Pops

Well, someone else likes them, too.
I’ll give you one guess…

I’ve been invited to be on the Martha Stewart Show on Thursday, April 3rd for Cupcake Week. (Crazy, isn’t it?!) So if you want to see how these cute Cupcake Pops are made, then tune in.

Who knew that starting a little blog about baking could turn into something so exciting! Not me, for sure. I just started this blog last October to learn more about baking and decorating cakes and also to play around with an idea for some baking related t-shirts. I feel like I have just scratched the surface of all there is to learn, so I never would have expected to end up in New York City next to Martha Stewart.

So all of you other beginning bakers out there, just get baking. You never know what sweet things it could lead to.

Updated instructions to come soon. But, in the meantime, Here’s a link to a few important things you’ll need to make these:

Ideally, try and find a 1.25 inch flower-shaped metal cookie cutter (it’s used to mold the cupcake shape before being dipped in chocolate), but if you can’t, then you can try this size and just make your shapes a little bigger.
1.5 inch flower cookie cutter by Wilton

Mini Crinkle Cookie Cutter (round) this kind works, too.

Lollipop Sticks

Wilton Candy Melts or Mercken’s Candy Coatings

Michael’s Crafts and Hobby Lobby carry candy melts, lollipop sticks, and if you’re lucky, the cutters.

Here’s a pic of some I have used before.

  1. Jamie – no problem.

Jordansmomma – you got it. you need to poke them into something so they can dry. Just use a styrofoam block. You can find them at craft stores in different sizes. After they dry, I’ll also put them in treat bags tied with a ribbon so they can be laid down if necessary.

    Jordansmomma – good luck!

Gigi – you sure can! Just start with a little frosting at a time until you get the right consistency.

    RecipeNomad – thank you!

Blogger Najla – glad you like the oreo truffles. The cutters are 1.25″ wide and about .75″ tall.

    Cupcake – Thanks so much!

  2. Wow. This is great news! Congratulations! Yay for you!

  3. I made the orio truffles today. WOW they are good, my 3 years old and I start mixing the dough by hand (spoon was getting messy and not mixing well) my daughter start licking her fingers and that was it for her. But she couldn’t stop saying Yummy :).
I dipped it in a chocolate fondue, since what I had. So it got great review (the chocolate cover is not as thick) but wow they are so rich.
So thank you. Next I need to try the cupcakes.
One question about the cupcake pops: the molds you are showing is it 1.25 deep or width? I think it’s the ones that come in the Wilton mini cookie cutters a set of 6 right?

  4. Wow Martha Stewart! congratulations. The cupcakes look amazing so I’m sure you’ll do great

  5. Okay, this might be a silly question, but can you make these with leftover cupcakes or slices of cake? I assume that if the proportions of cake to frosting were similar it would still work. But I figured I should ask the expert!

BTW – Great job on Martha! I thought it was hilarious when she said “turd”. She must have felt very comfortable with you!

  6. Ya know what I just watched your video on MarthaStewart.com :-) You should post that on here! So much easier now that I’ve seen it done. I can NOT wait to make them. THANKS AGAIN and congrats on all your success!

  7. I love love love these! Wanna make them for a friend’s baby shower. Question: How do you let the pops dry? Can’t lay them down?? If I poke them into something to stand them up ?? Thanks for the great ideas! Love your blog!

  8. Thanks so much for your fast reply! I have the letters made, so I will give it a try~!

  9. Jamie – for the letters, I made them ahead of time with a chocolate mold and left to dry. Then when I made the pops and got to the point of decorating with sprinkles, I just did one at a time, placed the pop in the styrofoam block, and placed the letter very carefully on the top while the chocolate was still slightly wet. Then I just held it there with my finger until it set and then left in the block to dry completely.

  10. I do have one question for you regarding your MARTHA lettering on the top of the pops….how did you get it to attach and maintain uprightness?!?

  11. morgana said… Congratulations!!! Your creations are great. I’m glad everybody knows it but I’m sorry I cannot see you on TV from Spain. :-((( May be later, in youtube??? Good luck!

Meg said…Damn! You used a cookie cutter? And I shaped all of mine by hand–still so very tasty, though! Congrats on the Martha appearance. I’ll have to set the DVR.P.S. I wondered if you’d tried to make the cake balls (for lack of a better word) by using peanut butter instead of cream cheese frosting? Maybe if the p.b. were mixed with something to make it a little more workable? I’m contemplating trying it next time I make them (we’re big Reese’s fans) and just wondered if I could benefit from your experience. Congrats again!
Bakerella : Yep. I can’t believe you did all the shaping by hand. Bet that was a little tough. Think how much easier it will be next time. If you try the peanut butter cake balls, let me know if you like them.

The bakery down the street from me here in San Francisco sells the cutest little treats and even the small things sell for $2.50 each. I think that’s a lot for a little treat, but they are so good and fun, I buy it. :-) I’d buy yours too. Sorry, I didn’t mean to be intrusive…I just wanted to tell you they are cute and best of luck!

Wow. I’m impressed. And, yes you can color chocolate. But it needs to be a special kind. Just make sure there is no water in the ingredients. It will mess it up and cause the chocolate to separate.

  65. Hi, I saw you on Martha today. I love your lil’ cupcake pops! They are so cute! I can’t believe you just do this for fun. You should sell them.

  66. I learned something new about you from your appearance on Martha… you need your own show.

Your talent is matched only by your personality.

P.S. I wondered if you’d tried to make the cake balls (for lack of a better word) by using peanut butter instead of cream cheese frosting? Maybe if the p.b. were mixed with something to make it a little more workable?
