No, I haven’t taken up sewing. (Not yet anyway.) These adorable little buttons are all candy.
And, umm… they are like handmade.
Not by me, but remember my crazy talented, cupcake fanatic friend, Julie?
She made them for a friend’s baby shower using a fab tutorial from Bake it Pretty.
They are just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
The tutorial even includes a pdf for the labels so you can print them out at home and make your own packaging.
Julie made yellow, pink, green, orange and blue buttons with colored candy melts.
Just melt the candy and pour into a button mold. Let them dry and pop them right out.
Place them in small plastic bags and attach the labels. Just fold them in half and staple them together.
Or, if you’re crazy like Julie, then you make the labels work with your own wooden custom candy button display that your awesomely talented husband built for you.
Yeah, I’m sucking up in case he reads this and wants to make one for me, too.
So, instead of folding the labels in half, you can fold them in thirds. Two-thirds in front and one-third in the back so you have enough room to use a hole punch on the labels without messing up the graphics. And then just use a little double-sided tape to attach the labels to the bags.
Easy and like I said… cute as a button.
Julie also made these onesie sugar cookies for the shower. I’m gonna work on her to get this recipe because they were really good.

Baking them, I think, because I’m such a perfectionist when it comes to making them pretty that I get stressed out about it. Much easier to make them, then hand them off to my kids and hubby to “do their part” and decorate them. Easier to appreciate their efforts (and laugh about the mess) when I’m not stressed about how they look because i know they’ll taste good. :)

I love making sweets preety. The boys don’t seem to mind one bit either. They like to ‘help’ and sugar the crap out of their decorated cookie, cupcake, whathave you. BUT, something makes me smile about a batch of cookies, cupcakes or cinnamon rolls that comes out of the oven just right. :)

You got me. The joy of mixing and baking is pure bliss. It is my oasis from the world. However, what is more fun than taking that bliss and making it look fun, cute, or adorable? The decorating part is a bit like passing on your bliss to those you love! I checked out the website and it would probably take me about 5 minutes to spend $100. Hmm. I would have to say baking them. They have to be pretty in the completely average sense. Not like your amazing cake pops and cupcakes. I will keep trying though. My hands don’t always deliver what I have pictured in my mind.
I MUCH prefer to bake!! I wish I could make them pretty, but it seems like even if I get one to look good, by the time I get to the next one I’m just too frustrated. Then, I just rush through the rest to be done with it. :-(

I’m definitely more of a baker than a making them pretty sort of person. The pretty part is fun on occasion too, for the kids’ birthdays and holidays, but I’d much rather just eat the treats than worry about them being fabulous and fancy all of the time.

I love to make sweets look cute! I think that taking the time to decorate shows love. Anybody can just slap some frosting on a cake. Candy buttons, fondant, sprinkles those things take more effort to execute.

Depends on what I’m baking but most of the time I enjoy the process – if it’s a decorated cookie (like the Onesie Cookies) then it’s all about the decorating…so much to enjoy :-)
I absoulutely HEART baking…my sweetie just bought me a new delicious red Kitchen Aid mixer so we have been baking all kinds! I love that my kids are getting delicious treats that I have made and can actually pronounce the ingredients I put in. A very close second to the baking however, would be eating!!

I do love baking sweets however decorating is my favorite because I have a 2.5 year old helper named Emma. She is kind of bossy when it comes to where to place the sprinkles but we are a good team!

i would have to say, I love making my sweets to look pretty. everytime I’m out shopping, I’m always on the hunt for packaging, new little boxes, bags, etc. I love to see the look on everyones faces when they see how cute their present looks. Of course, they do taste good too!

Oh I can’t possibly decide… there is something so calming about baking, combining ingredients, experiencing chemical reactions, it’s like culinary alchemy at your fingertips, but then there’s the design element as well. Once you have put in the time baking, cooling and such, the designing and beautifying is also so satisfying and you can’t beat the smiles you get when you give a friend or loved one a beautiful baked good from your very own kitchen! Can I say both? I go the extra mile for decorating if it’s for others or a special occasion, and I really enjoy it. But if the treat is just for me, I enjoy the baking part because as soon as it’s done it’s going in my mouth! :)

I really do enjoy both. I love to bake things from scratch and have the knowledge that everything I’m putting into my creations is/are as best a quality as I can afford or find. I especially love when things come out of the oven looking ‘just right’ and smelling amazing – and then, I’ve yet to experience a baked treat NOT taste great!!! Watching someone take a bite and close their eyes because something tastes so good… That is a priceless moment. And it makes baking totally worth the mess and the time.
But, decorating these things… Unless it’s a crumble or something that is supposed to be messy and not ‘messed with’, I LOVE decorating! Cupcakes are my favorite, but I’ve been known to pump out hundreds of cookies for a friend’s wedding, too. There is something wonderful about making each and every item seem like a little gift or treasure all on its own. To see someone’s eyes when they take it all in with excitement before even biting into it makes it all just as exciting as watching somebody close their eyes as they enjoy that very first delicious bite!
