No, I haven’t taken up sewing. (Not yet anyway.) These adorable little buttons are all candy.
And, umm… they are like handmade.
Not by me, but remember my crazy talented, cupcake fanatic friend, Julie?
She made them for a friend’s baby shower using a fab tutorial from Bake it Pretty.
They are just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
The tutorial even includes a pdf for the labels so you can print them out at home and make your own packaging.
Julie made yellow, pink, green, orange and blue buttons with colored candy melts.
Just melt the candy and pour into a button mold. Let them dry and pop them right out.
Place them in small plastic bags and attach the labels. Just fold them in half and staple them together.
Or, if you’re crazy like Julie, then you make the labels work with your own wooden custom candy button display that your awesomely talented husband built for you.
Yeah, I’m sucking up in case he reads this and wants to make one for me, too.
So, instead of folding the labels in half, you can fold them in thirds. Two-thirds in front and one-third in the back so you have enough room to use a hole punch on the labels without messing up the graphics. And then just use a little double-sided tape to attach the labels to the bags.
Easy and like I said… cute as a button.
Julie also made these onesie sugar cookies for the shower. I’m gonna work on her to get this recipe because they were really good.

They sure are cute as a button!! I love making my sweets pretty, prettier, and prettiest. If I could just decorate all day, that is what I would do. I would be the happiest person on earth if all I could do was decorate and make my sweets pretty.
I like baking things and making them pretty equal amounts. I’ve found that pretty sweets get oohs and aahs at the beginning, but the best-tasting sweets are often the ones that ‘have character’. I can’t get my trifle layers even and pretty and I always drip some of the pudding layer down the inside of the bowl, ruining the layer effect, but it always tastes awesome. And my Granny made some buttermilk pralines one time that refused to set so she scooped it all into a pie crust. We could only eat the smallest slivers of pie at a time, but it was the Best. Pie. Ever.

I really like to do both, but if I really have to pick one, I would lean towards the baking, as I don’t always have the time to pretty them up. But certain holidays, like Valentines especially, I like to pull out all the stops. They have to be pretty, lol!
Baking sweets for sure. Once I’ve a recipe down pat, then I tend to spend more time on making it pretty. It’s definitely a work in progress, though.
I like baking them best. I never got along with my mother until recently, but I’ve always had fond memories (from when I was small and before I got into the angsty, angry at everyone phase, haha) of baking with her. I’d bake with my grandfather and my grandmother every chance I got.
Baking is about love and care. If it looks pretty, that’s just a bonus.. but to enjoy the process is the best thing ever.

For me decorating them and admiring their beauty is definitely the highlight! What I don’t like about it is yelling at my boyfriend because he wants to eat everything the moment it comes out of the oven “Nooooo, don’t eat it! It’s not decorated!”
That’s a tough choice, but I’m going to go with making them pretty. I love to see peoples faces light up when they see an extra special treat, and my kids love to decorate desserts as well, so fun bonus there too!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE making my desserts look pretty. Sometimes I think I go overboard but oh well, no one has complained so far.
I love to make cute things, but then I can’t bring myself to eat them! So my solution is to let my boys go willi-nilli, while I cringe at the “pretty” results – and feel lucky to eat the goodies we make taste great together!

I love decorating the goods. Making a pretty treat to share with friends and coworkers is so satisfying.
I love trying to learn to make things look pretty…it makes giving them as gifts and eating them so much more fun.
Right now I just enjoy making them. The reasoning is because I’m not so great at making them pretty, yet. One of my goals this year is to take some cake and cookie decorating classes so I can make pretty things for those in my life that I appreciate.

I prefer the baking part – almost relaxing, in a way. I try not to get too fussy with decorating as I’m far from perfect at it!
I think I flip flop back and forth between the two. It really depends who I am making it for and how much time I have. If I am making something for my daughters, sister, or moms I would say making it pretty is my favorite because I know they will appreciate it which makes it more fun to do.

Depends on what I’m making– if there’s intricate icing involved, probably the baking part. I am hopeless in this department, I think, but cute stuff like these buttons might be what I’m looking for to make up for my awful technique!
I love baking them, and my boyfriend loves eating them! After getting all the batches mixed, baked, cooled, and then kitchen cleanup, I don’t usually have much energy left for fancy decorations. Unless my potentially-future-mother-in-law is coming over, then I find my second wind and make them gorgeous :D
