No, I haven’t taken up sewing. (Not yet anyway.) These adorable little buttons are all candy.
And, umm… they are like handmade.
Not by me, but remember my crazy talented, cupcake fanatic friend, Julie?
She made them for a friend’s baby shower using a fab tutorial from Bake it Pretty.
They are just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
The tutorial even includes a pdf for the labels so you can print them out at home and make your own packaging.
Julie made yellow, pink, green, orange and blue buttons with colored candy melts.
Just melt the candy and pour into a button mold. Let them dry and pop them right out.
Place them in small plastic bags and attach the labels. Just fold them in half and staple them together.
Or, if you’re crazy like Julie, then you make the labels work with your own wooden custom candy button display that your awesomely talented husband built for you.
Yeah, I’m sucking up in case he reads this and wants to make one for me, too.
So, instead of folding the labels in half, you can fold them in thirds. Two-thirds in front and one-third in the back so you have enough room to use a hole punch on the labels without messing up the graphics. And then just use a little double-sided tape to attach the labels to the bags.
Easy and like I said… cute as a button.
Julie also made these onesie sugar cookies for the shower. I’m gonna work on her to get this recipe because they were really good.

I am finishing the Wilton cake decorating classes so right now I enjoy making them pretty. Plus nothing makes me happier than a gorgeous swirl of icing on a cupcake! And of course I enjoy eating them!

I like to make them pretty. Anyone can make an ugly cake — trust me, I have. Many times. But it’s so fun to see the finished product when you’ve worked hard to decorate something!
Definitely baking sweets. Maybe if I had any artistic talent and there was any chance they’d look good it’d be a harder decision. But given my current skill level, the baking is what I do best.
Well.. even though I don’t have a ton of experience backing sweets or decorating, I do have to say that my favorite part is decorating. It lets the artist in me come out and play in nothing but sugary goodness! :]
Last fall I made a bunch of Bon Jovi SMIRK cupcakes for my friend’s 22nd birthday and surprised her with them when I showed up at her apartment. I would add a picture but I’m not sure if this takes HTML or what and I don’t want to have a bunch of garbled stuff in the middle of my post! lol
She loved them and I slaved for 4 hours ahead of time baking those and keeping her out of the apartment just so I can get my handy-work done! lol

Neither actually. I enjoy the enjoyment others get from what I create the most. But since that’s not an option, it would have to be the baking. The whole process of creating.
hmmm….tough choice. If I’m honest with myself baking is where I feel more confident. But my heart gets a real tug when I see royal icing, frosting, sprinkles, and the like. So for now, until I have more practice – baking.

I like baking sweets AND making them look pretty, but if I guess I had to choose just one of those, it would be making them look pretty because my boyfriend appreciates a pistachio rosewater cookie the exact same as he appreciates a Funfetti cake, but he appreciates a cake in the shape of an axolotl far more than a regular old spherical one!
I do not have a sweet tooth, but I love to decorate and let my creative side go crazy when it comes to decorating! I prefer someone to bake, then let me decorate! Boxed-cake mixes (hangs head in shame) are my friend.

I enjoy the process of baking better. I love decorating but something about the creation and preciseness of baking is like zen for me.
As much fun as it is to bake, it’s definitely more fun to make it all look pretty. I can spend days agonizing over ways in which to decorate a cake or a batch of cookies. In fact, I spend most of my time not by writing up lecture notes (as I should be) but by doodling decorating ideas.
Those baby onesies are so cute! Personally I enjoy baking sweets more (and then eating them while they’re fresh)! I think it’s because I don’t decorate as well (which is why I love your blog so much! It displays creativity I could never demonstrate!)

Ideally I’d do both… but I go either way – sometimes I’m just there to bake something totally yummy tasting, other times I’m there to make it pretty (like when I take a cake decorating class).
i like to bake and eat anything yummy. making it pretty is the bonus, if it’s not something yummy i’ve baked it’s not worth it to me to decorate it.

I enjoy both! A part of baking the sweets is making them pretty, and it’s just so much fun. Especially once you have a beautiful finished product to share with friends and your husband cleans the kitchen for you =)

For me it depends what I am baking and why. If it’s for my family then I go for yummy. If I am taking something for a party, potluck, or such I want it to look super cute. Either way I always like to display them nicely even if it is something simple.

I love making sweets look pretty – the prettier and more professional they are, the happier I am with them. However, if the sweets don’t taste good then I won’t bake them even if the end product is gorgeous :-) It’s all about the taste, but I do get a certain thrill out of decorating.
