Dining Out Dessert

Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce

Here’s a little something I think you guys will like. It’s a Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce. I don’t know what made me think about this dessert, because I’ve only had it once. It was several years ago… maybe even eight. I was eating out at Applebee’s with my family and we decided to get dessert. Now, I eat out kind of often, but desserts are usually saved for celebrations. Birthdays and such. And, when I do get one, it’s usually the most chocolate thing on the menu and it never contains nuts. But on that day, it wasn’t my celebration. It was my uncle’s and I agreed to split this non-chocolate, nut-filled dessert – the whole while thinking about how much better the chocolate would be. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. This might have even been the best thing I had ever tasted. (up until that point, anyway.)

So, if you’ve never been to Applebee’s and you’ve never tasted the Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce, that’s okay. Because, you’re in luck. I found a recipe from The Secret Recipe Blog that’s as close to the original as I remember it.

I promise you’ll like it.

Here’s the recipe.

Here are the ingredients for the blondies.

Blondie Ingredients

Mix it all up…

Blondie Batter

And, spread it all out in a greased and floured 8 or 9 inch square pan. (I used the 8 inch)

When the blondies are almost done, mix up your maple butter sauce. Here’s what you’ll need.

Maple Butter Sauce Ingredients

When the brownies are done, cool for a few minutes. Cut and serve while they are still warm.

Walnut Blondies

Put one, or two, or six on a plate. Pile on some vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the warm maple butter sauce over everything. Top with any extra walnuts.

Maple Butter Sauce

OMG!!!!!

Now, if you don’t have any ice cream in the house, don’t let that stop you from making this.

Actually, if one were to make just the blondies and the maple butter sauce, one might even want to cut up small pieces of the blondie and use the maple butter sauce as a dip. One might even end up dunking the whole thing in the sauce and getting maple butter all over their fingers that they then had to force themselves to lick off. However, I don’t know anyone like that.

Again, here’s the recipe.

And, now for a giveaway…

  2. First let me say I am new to your site and I love it! You are so creative! My favorite is banana cream pie at Max and Ermas!

  3. I had neve had the Blondie dessert either until I was out with a friend and she said I HAD to try it….so I did and yes, it was FABULOUS!!!!! And I’m mostly just a chocolate fan. :)
My daughter and I had Creme’ Brulee at Grazie’s and it was out of this world!! Yummy!

  4. i LOVE the peanut butter cup (with a scoop of vanilla ice cream) at uno’s. seriously, that peanut butter cup is as big as my hand and taste like heaven!

  5. I was a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory for almost 2 years, so I definitely would not say anything from there….BUT, you hit the nail on the head with the Chili’s Molten Chocolate Cake. I go to Chili’s JUST for that dessert (and their chips and salsa, the best), maybe once a year, and it is the best thing I have ever tasted at a restaurant.

This one looks pretty good too, though. :)

  6. My favorite dining out dessert would have to be the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae at Sonic. I love the warm brownie topped with ice cream and hot fudge sauce! mmmmmmmmmm!!!

  7. Ack! Reading everyone’s comments has me all flustered and I can’t decide now which is my favorite!

I’ll go with the Chocolate Mousse at The Flying Dutchman in Kemah, Texas. LOVE that stuff.

Close runner-ups are the white chocolate raspberry truffle Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory and the Bananas Foster at Brennan’s in Houston. And of course Blue Bell Ice Cream, the best icecream in the country!

  11. Oooh this sounds yummy! I tend to fancy the desserts at the cheaper restaurants such as Applebees and The Olive Garden. My favorite dessert, which I haven’t had in YEARS, is the Strawberry or Chocolate Tall Cake from Ruby Tuesday’s.

Desserts at fancier restaurants always seem to be a let down. They’re too small and never enough calories! ;)

  12. Anything from the Cheesecake Factory. I love the Godiva cheesecake and their Strawberry Shortcake.

  13. That is a tough one! There used to be a restaurant who had a fabulous version of coconut cream pie, but it really wasn’t a pie. It certainly was a little slice of heaven though.

  152. We have a place here in CA that is called The Lazy Dog. They have this great brownie that is warm with icecream on top and then chocolate and carmel sauce on top along with whipped cream and nuts. Oh my! I could go for one right now!

What a great giveaway…btw I’m going to make this yummy blondie recipe you gave us.

    Hugs,
    Joanne

  153. I love the Godiva cheesecake from Cheesecake factory–the chunks of chocolate hidden in the cheesecake are the best!! This blondie looks delicious! Can’t wait to try it!

  154. I hardly ever get dessert at restaurants, but I do like creme brulee and I never make it at home.

  157. Yum, a Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry sounds amazing… I had no idea such a thing existed.

I don’t usually order dessert, but when I do, there’s a quasi-fancy restaurant next door to my work called 38 on Central, and they make the most amazing tiramisu and also this white chocolate mousse that is delicious.

  158. Moxie’s White Chocolate Brownie…To die for! I’m drooling just thinking about it.

  159. The big, warm chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream at Uno’s – so good! I can’t eat there and NOT get it.

  160. Dulce de Leche cheescake from the Cheese cake factory

  161. I just found my favorite dessert two weeks ago at the Pacific Grill in Downtown Tacoma, the Rock N’ Roca. It’s a blondie-type brownie with toffee in it, toped with White Chocolate Ice Cream, a scoop of fresh whipped cream, Almond Roca crunch pieces, slivered almonds, and carmel sauce. YUMMERS!!!

  162. Chocolate Cake in any form – preferably served warm with some kind of sauce and/or ice cream.

  163. The yin and yang fondue from the Melting Pot is the most amazing thing in the world. Especially when you dip the rice krispies in it.

  164. This might be a little random, but the Hershey’s pie from Burger King (I know of all places, right?) is delicious — for fast food desserts! Must try it sometime!

  165. Chocolate lava cake! It’s my once a year, birthday dinner out, indulgence.

  166. Oh, man, dessert is my favourite part of dining in fancy restaurants. So decadent! I have so many favourites. The exquisite honey vanilla creme brulee from a funny little place called Neil’s that no longer exists (alas!). The amazing fresh raspberry tart I had recently at a very swish restaurant called Number 8. a delightful handmade lemon meringue pie from a local patisserie that comes with a whole raspberry secretly set into the centre of the lemon curd!

I love trying out new desserts (I’m more adventurous with them than with main course foods) and I especially like restaurants that offer a dessert tasting platter, so you don’t have to choose just one :D

  167. I’ve had my share of delectable deserts but my all time favorite stems from childhood. The Oreo Shake from Applebees. I couldn’t go in without leaving with one! shellane.pickett@gmail.com

  168. I loved the Panna Cotta with fresh berries from Macaroni Grill, smooth egg custard..a perfect end to a dinner or lunch. It has been taken off the menu for many years.

  169. my favorite dining out dessert EVER is the banana cream pie from rutherford grill, TO DIR FOR!

  170. I usually prefer to go home and have dessert that I’ve made but now that you mention it, I do love Chili’s Molten Lava Cake! It’s been years since I had it, but I still remember it — yummy!

  171. It is sick and wrong to be thinking about dessert this late at night! :) I never was really into The Cheesecake Factory (all cheesecake is good, why was their’s sooo popular?!) until I had a bite of their CARROT CAKE CHEESE CAKE WITH PINEAPPLE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING. I even made a deal with my husband, who is a college student working at a restaurant near TCF, that if he makes a certain amount of money on a shift, that he’ll bring me a slice of that stuff home! Good thing the goal is pretty high so I don’t get it too often! :) So delicious… every bite!

Your blog rocks, by the way. I refer people to you all the time for the ideas, pictures, cupcake pops, etc. You’re brillllliant, dahhling! :)

  172. There’s this place called Joey’s Tomato in Canada that’s become pretty big in Vancouver over the past couple years (they might just go by “Joey’s” now). They have a Molten Lava Chocolate Souffle served with a huge scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry puree. If you love chocolate then you should definitely try it. I think they’ve expanded to the states too.

  173. Chocolate fondue… lots of strawberries, bananas and pound cake!!!

  174. I have to thank my husband for getting me addicted to the “I delclair” from Claim Jumper~It’s huge! And so yummy with custard filling and melted chocolate on top, served with vanilla bean ice cream. Mmmmm! It is a tradition to go there when we go to Disneyland!!!

  175. Anything at Ghirardelli… their new peppermint hot fudge sundae is amazing. :)

  176. Cheddar’s has a fabulous Cookie Monster. A huge choco chip cookie, ice cream, then lots of hot fudge. Doesn’t get better than that. YUM!

  177. This post got me thinking about the pizookie from BJ’s, which I absolutely adore! It’s a pizza-cookie (in a small pan) with a huge serving of ice cream. The most amazing thing on the planet.

  178. My favorite restaurant dessert is a very warm brownie a la mode with chocolate and caramel drizzled on top! I am quite fond of the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under (Outback Steakhouse) and the one at TGIFridays. Yummy! Oh now I want one!!

    k_allen319 at hotmail dot com

  179. Fried Ice cream at chi chis. I know there aren’t even any chi-chi’s anymore (or not near me) but they actually fried their ice cream, not just dropped a dollop of vanilla onto a tortilla. Or at least that what my childhood memories are telling me…

  180. Anything anywhere with chocolate and/or mint.

  181. A very Canadian thing, Beaver Tails. And not just any Beaver Tail, but the ones with apples and cinnamon pie filling directly on top. YUMMMM!

  182. My current favorite (my favorites change pretty often) is a simple battered, fried banana ice cream sundae with hot chocolate from a local restaurant chain. Mmmmmm. now I want some!

  183. Well, I don’t usually order dessert. I love Burger King’s pies, they come in cute little boxes and are just the right size. I also enjoy the Oreo dessert at TGI Friday’s.

  186. I have to give it up for a local dig- if you’re ever Raleigh, NC (or Myrtle Beach, SC- there’s one there too) you absolutely HAVE to come to Goodberry’s Frozen Custard for a Carolina Concrete- chocolate, vanilla, or the flavor of the day, mix-ins, etc, and for fun, when they hand it to you, they first hold it completely upside down. Its been around for 20-some years and its THE BEST!!! no matter what flavor you get!
    jennymccoy@nc.rr.com

  187. I can’t wait to try that dessert!! Yum-ness! I will eat pretty much any dessert at any restaurant. I usually go for either the apple crisp or the cheesecake with fruity sauce on top.

  188. The melting pot’s chocolate fondue with the oreo-covered marshmallows as dippers. MMMM.

  190. The Cheesecake Factory used to have a flavor of cheesecake called White Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffle and it was amazing!

  191. Chocolate Lasagna from Olive Garden which sadly they don’t offer anymore. If you can come up with a recipe for it, I’ll love you forever. :)

  192. I don’t think they make it any more, but Ruby Tuesdays used to have a blondie similar to this, and my girlfriend Jen and I would drive to the mall after school Junior year and split one. So heavely.

  193. I love the white molten cake at Chili’s. Such fabulous flavor!!

  194. I had to think about this one… was going to say a cheesecake from anywhere… then I remembered PF Chang’s Banana Spring Rolls! HEAVEN! Banana wrapped in a spring roll, fried… then served with coconut-pineapple ice cream with caramel and vanilla syrups over it all! YUMMM! Man now I want it! HAHA

  195. I loved the oreo madness from Fridays. It was a very sad day when they took it off of their menu!
    lindsaymott@hotmail.com

  196. Hands down the Ice Cream Profiterole with Hot Fudge Sauce at Legal Seafood. Yum!

  197. We like to eat at Johnny Carino’s and for dessert you have the order the Tiramisu. Otherwise if we eat at another place we stop at Baskin Robbins near our house for ice cream. I like a double scoop on a waffle cone….black cherry and pistachio.

  198. It’d have to be the Cadbury creme egg McFlurry !! So many good things at the same time, too bad they don’t offer it in the US :(

  199. The Ghirardelli chocolate shop, good old fashioned Hot Fudge Sundae….mmmmm

  200. My favorite is the Oreo Madness at TGIF, but I don’t know if they make them anymore! God help me, it saved me during my pregnancy!
