Hello again

I can’t believe I’m writing another post without a single picture in it, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you how completely overwhelmed I’ve been reading all your prayers and beautiful words of encouragement. It’s taken me a few days but I have read them all … all 4,400+ of them. Wow!!! I’ve smiled and cried and felt so lucky to have this blog that connects us all. Thank you.

While reading, I was moved by so many of you that share similar stories. And even more overwhelmed by offers to be tested to see if you could be a kidney donor for me. That is so amazing. I don’t even know how to process it yet. Asking that of anyone is something that does not come naturally to me. It’s very difficult to even accept that gift from my mom if she turns out to be able to donate. And hopefully she will. But your offers are so special and kind and generous of heart that I had to make sure you all knew that I did read them and whether or not I could ask that of anyone, I wanted you all to know how honored I am.

There were an overwhelming number of comments from people that know someone with kidney failure or on dialysis or with a transplant or even their second or third transplant. Too, too many. My love goes out to all of you and your family and friends as well. It’s a tough thing.

March is National Kidney Month and I believe April is National Donate Life Month. With everything going on with me lately, I find it hard not to mention that. Please take a minute to think about organ donation. So many people are on waiting lists and will be for a long time.

Okay, the good news is I came home from the hospital Tuesday night after 18 days. Finally. Yay! I’ll be on a different journey for a while, but one that I’ve been on before. Dialysis. I won’t go into all the details, but basically I will get four-hour treatments, three days a week. Kind of a bummer. But hopefully it won’t be for too long.

I also wanted to let you know that I still plan on posting as I go through everything. I want to keep things as close to normal as possible. It may not be on a schedule, but it will be when I can. And of course … cute.

P.S. – I want to say hi to all the first time commenters. Hi there! Big hugs. I’m so happy to hear from all of you.

And now I’m off to read 18 days of emails that I wasn’t able to check while I was in the hospital. Help.

P.S.S. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I’m tearing up – I read this post and was just PRAYING for something good going on for you— I was reading some of the comments and got so teary- such wonderful people here with big hearts… I know this is something serious, as I wrote to you in an email about my friend donating a kidney to his sister years ago… You are such an upbeat and positive and GOOD person, no wonderful person.. I can’t even believe this is happening to you and it breaks my heart. I pray that your mom is a match and that you will have a successful transplant… I’m routing for you– You are my hero!!!
    Stay positive…
    Love and hugs and prayers,
    Leesa

  5. Just now getting caught up with your blog. Wow. What a journey you’ve been on. So glad to hear that you are home!

My Dad is a kidney recipient, donated by my cousin. What an amazing experience it was for our whole family. And how special it will be if your Mom is able to donate one to you. It brought my cousin incredible joy to be able to give the gift of life. I’m sure it would be that and so much more for your Mom, as well.

Praying for you, especially as you start dialysis. Take care of yoursef!

  6. I’m so glad you’re home! Take care of yourself, and find something fun to do during your dialysis – I have to say that, as a knitter, the first thing I thought, after “12 hours! that’s a lot of time!”, was “I hope she knits!” ;-)

  7. I’m glad you’re feeling better. I’ve never posted before and thought of posting the other day, but then felt a little odd. My first thought was, “oh what if I can give her one of my kidneys?” Then I remembered that my kidneys may someday fail after spending a couple months in the hospital with multiple organ failure thanks to pneumonia (not positive but we believe from swine flu). I may not know how dialysis affects a person, but I sure can sympathize with being hooked up to life supporting machines and have the scars to prove it.

  8. Welcome home! I have my fingers crossed that everything goes well for you!!!!

  9. Your strength and positive attitude are so inspiring. You are in my prayers during this waiting time and dialysis journey, as well as for a donor. You are loved and admired by so many. Keep smiling and baking and we’ll be cheering you on, Bakerella!

  10. Thinking of you and hoping all is better soon. You inspire happiness with your creativity. The world needs these small moments of delight right now!

  11. Hi! So good to hear from you, and that you are back home :)
Thanks so much for the kind words to your readers…your website is such a bright spot in my day. I look forward to each post! Most importantly, take care of yourself. And please let us know when you find out if your mother is a match! I will be praying!

  12. Glad you are finally home. Sending many hugs and prayers your way.

  13. Hey-I am so sorry! I have checked your site a couple times and was wondering where you have been. I am so sorry about the visit in the hospital-I hope things get better and you can find a match. I am not as gracious as those who have offered a kidney-I’m kind of selfish like that… but I really, really hope things go well for you.

  14. Hugs to you, too! I’m always terrible at words and never know what to say. But if you don’t mind sharing, maybe blogging through everything will help you, to vent and get it out. I can’t imagine the stress you are going through and I know there’s nothing I can say that will make it better, but please know that we are all thinking about you and keeping you in our prayers. xoxo

  15. Glad to hear from Miss Bakerella!! You are still big in my prayers! We are huge fans at school and home. Lots of love and keep strong sister!!

  16. Glad to see a new posting :) Hope you’re feeling stronger, just know everything will work out! You rock!

  17. Glad to hear you’re home. I’ve not been a fan for long as I came across your site a few days ago, but reading your post and what your going through was sad. I’m sorry, and I hope everything works out. Sending many wishes and prayers your way. also, Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

    Lindsay

  18. I’m so glad you are back at home! Sending big hugs and sprinkles!

  19. I’m still saying a prayer for you and your family. I just wanted to say again that having been a living donor almost a year ago (April 27th is our 1 year anniversary) – if you have any questions or just want to ask someone about the process I’d be happy to share with you or your Mom.
I hope everyone who reads these posts will look into living donation – it is only a couple of weeks out of your life and years to your donor! The National Kidney Foundation web page is a good source of information – Got 2 Give 1!!

  20. Hi Bakerella! So glad to hear that you are feeling better!! Just keep that positive attitude up :)

I am making some cupcake pops tomorrow for a sweet 16th Birthday party. I got your book for Christmas and have made regular cake pops twice but tomorrow I am going for it! I’ve been studying the book all week, and hopefully tomorrow it will go well :)

While I make them, I will be thinking of you and praying that everything turns out ok!

    <3 Erin

  21. I am so glad to read that you’re home from the hospital. =D

  22. Great that you are in good spirits. Keep that positive attitude going. God is already working in your favor. Glad you were able to go home…You are in my prayers…God is good!!! Be safe and stay blessed

  23. You are amazing and I am praying for your strength. I have never been through dialysis, but I know people who have and I know it’s not easy. I have faith that you are strong enough to handle it though. Its weird, even though I don’t “know” you, I think of you every single day and pray for your recovery and I know you have many many many years left :)

  24. I don’t often comment but I just wanted to wish you well. I check back daily to hear from you. Feel better soon!!

  25. Thinking of you!!! HUGS

    Glad you are home.

  26. So glad you’ve finally made it home! Dialysis is DEFINITELY not fun, but it’s at least a step to keep you healthy. I hope you’re able to find a donor match soon and keep the process flowing!

  27. I’m so glad to hear that you are feeling a tiny bit better and that you are home from the hospital. It must be nice to be with your own things. I hope you find a match quickly and it’s an easy road!

  28. I am so happy to hear you are out of the hospital. My daughter Britt just told me about it, she was looking to see if anything cute for St. Patty’s day. She also had a transplant and is doing fairly well (thinking soon she may need a new one). We feel a special bond with you even though we only know you through your website. We are sending prayers your way and I hope your mother is a match. I was a match for Britt, it was the one thing I am most proud of doing:)

  29. YAY!!!!!! You are home!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to update us on your condition, you are such a blessing to all of us and we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. We smile when we think of you and we smile when we read your blog. Just looking at past cake pops fills our days with sunshine.
Praying for a speedy donor and recovery!!

  30. I hope all turns out well! Do rest, although we all eagerly await the next cute post! Maybe we all (readers) can get some posts together for you… maybe share some recipes and pics of ours for something you would like to try! Then you dont have to do the work and you can just be the editor! hehe WE can be… um… guest bloggers? Just a thought! Feel better!

    -Jocelyn

  31. Glad that you’re doing better – I hope your mom is able to be your donor :D.

  32. Yay…you’re home !!!

Since I just popped into your blog fairly recently, I have a lot of reading to catch up on here so don’t stress over not being able to post as much as before…your health is so much more important than a blog…be well and I’m out here praying for you and enjoying all your older posts !

    Hugs,
    Nonna

  33. Sooo glad to read your post I was very worried about you and have been keeping you in my thoughts and prayers! I don’t pot comments very often but I am an avid reader of your blog and love all your ideas!

  34. Be well, Angie; be very, very, very well, please!

  35. First time commenting on your blog, though I’ve been reading it for some time. While I can’t say I know what you’re experiencing with the kidney issues, I sincerely hope for the best possible outcome for you. Being sick in any way is never fun, so here’s to a quick, and painless (or minimally painful) recovery.

And this may be a little random. I made your cake balls several times for my roomies and my friends and they all raved about them. I adore them as well – I can’t leave them alone once they’re drying! So thank you so much for sharing your wonderful recipes with everyone. It’s always lovely reading your blog and checking out the step-by-step visual process.

    Best,
    Lindsay

  36. I am so happy to hear from you. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and as SPRING arrives in a few days, may you be blessed with the hope and new life that this season brings. I’m already an organ donor. I’ve seen how important that is! I continue to pray for you. Stay strong!

  37. I was so happy to see you Tweet that you arrived home. I don’t have a Twitter account but after your first hospital post, I have checked through the “contacts” link here on this site.
I know this is a difficult, uncertain time but you get past this.Your positive attitude will carry you through. With so many folks praying for you and sending positive healing thoughts out to the Universe, a donor will materialize and you will be restored to good health soon. Take care.

  38. Glad to here that you are home. My prayers are with you.

  39. Sweet Bakerella, my heart goes out to you. I hope you feel peace at this time and know that you are loved. The Lord has a plan for each of us and will never leave us all alone. Best wishes for all to go smoothly for you, and bright hope for your future!

  40. You deserve (and probably need) all the support you can get! Just wanted to say (as a former lab tech), make sure you collect your pee for a full 24 hours for those creatine/creatinine tests! Don’t cheat! Anyway, good luck and hope you get good news soon!

  41. I also wanted to simply let you know that I am thankful as well that you are able to be home. Praying that your journey goes as smoothly as possible. (((Hugs)))

  42. Bakerella! We’ve all missed you and I think of you often! I sincerely-SINCERELY-hope you make a speedy recovery. You said it’s hard for you to accept a gift such as a kidney from your mom but just think about it from her perspective–she has the honor of saving her little girl! What a special thing for you two to share! I know you would do the same for her.

My prayers go up to the Lord for you to be cradled in his arms. He is always with you!

    God’s peace,
    Sondra

  50. I wanted to let you know that I’ve been thinking about you since your last post. I’m proud to say that ever since I got my first driver’s license, I’ve been registered as an organ donor. My state (WI) now has an online registry, and I signed up for that too. I think your donor would be thrilled to know that your kidney helped you for over 18 years. You have not let him or her down!

Best wishes for good health for many more years, and many more years of cute treats!

  58. I had NO idea – and how sad is it that I thought this would be a St. Patrick’s post with adorableness overflowing and I would be a bit sad that I could never make anything so creative — but for a bit vicarious moment, here on your site.

OH – I will be praying for you, you are such a dear and bring so much light, love and goodness to all!

    “May God give you…
    For every storm, a rainbow,
    For every tear, a smile,
    For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
    For every problem life sends,
    A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.”

    Gentle hugs to you!!

  109. I just read this post and your 12 days post. I am so sorry to hear that your kidney is not holding up. 18 years is a long stretch and I’m sure the donor is proud to know that he or she helped you live well for another 18 years so don’t be too hard on yourself that you are in need of another one. I am glad to hear that you are out of the hospital and I hope your wait for a new kidney will be sooner than later. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  110. I’m so glad to hear you are home; continued prayers that a match is soon found.

  111. Happy Saint Patty’s Day to you too, Angie! So glad you are able to be home! I thought when I was reading this post… how funny! Now she will have to read all the replies to this post!!! : )
I am also amazed at the generosity of the people on your blog… isn’t that incredible! God is good.

I have only had kidney stones, but I know its no fun to mess with the kidney, no matter what is wrong with it… so, I will continue to pray for your perfect donor match (hopefully your Mom) and your continuing health. Cause you have lots more creativity to share with us, which inspires me every time I see it! And I will do all I can to keep my kidneys healthy!

    Lots of love to you,
    Angela

  117. So happy to hear you are home. May this St. Patty’s Day bring you lots of happy thoughts and loads of luck with maybe even a pot of gold! Keeping your spirits high is one of the greatest things we can do. You are in my thoughts and prayers! =)

  118. So glad to hear you are coming home. You seem like a genuinely wonderful, sweet person! Sending good vibes your way to get well soon… :)

  119. There’s no place like home:) God bless you on this journey. Hugs and prayers for you(and your mom too)! XOXO. Looking forward to more cute food!

  120. Woo Hoo! Glad you’re out of the hospital!

  121. I’m so glad you’re out of the hospital. I know dialysis is no fun but it is a lifesaver. Bring good books and good music and hopefully, it won’t be for too long. Sharing your experience will no doubt benefit someone else who is walking your path. Others will donate as a result. Thank you for that and for the gift that you are to all of us.

  122. Hang in there sweetpea. I know dialysis is absolutely draining but we are all sending up continued prayers for you. Be well and remember to find reasons to smile.

  123. When I told my husband last night that the person who writes my favorite baking blog and who wrote my cake pop book needs a new kidney, he was so sad! We are thinking about you and hope you recover quickly… not just because we want more baking eye candy, but because we honestly hope you feel better! We will continue to send positive thoughts your way and hope for a very quick recovery!

  124. So glad to hear you are at home! It is rough being in the hospital, especially for that long! Just wanted you to know that you are in my prayers.
I so enjoy your blog- your posts always brighten my day! You are so very talented! Here’s hoping for a quick recovery!

  128. I’m glad you’re home- I still have you in my thoughts and prayers. Please stay strong.

  129. Glad you’re home Angie! I hope that things are resolved for you soon. It’s too bad we couldn’t all get together and fashion you some sort of kidney out of cake crumbs and cream cheese but I guess it doesn’t work that way… {hugs}

  130. It’s so good to hear from you! I’ve been checking your blog everyday to see if you’ve been able to post something new, an update about how you are doing. 142. I’m glad that you are out of the hospital. Hopefully you will continue to mend and you will get a transplant without too much trouble. I’ve got my fingers crossed!

  143. Angela,

I’m so glad you’re back from the hospital. I’m a pharmacist and I know what dialysis is going to entail…so good luck with that. Once again, our prayers and thoughts are with you.

  148. Welcome back! So happy that you are home from the hospital even if you still need to get treated so often.

  149. I am so happy you are home.
Can I just tell you I think your mom is the greatest!
My daughter Isabella and I met the both of you on your booktour
    (Short Hills, NJ)
I can tell she is so proud of you, and I just know she will be a match!
    Lots of (((hugs)))
Ps. Isabella drew you another picture, I will just hold on to it for your “Cake Pops Book 2” book tour

  150. Angie, I’m so glad you’re home. The hospital sucks! Hope being in your own home again makes the dialysis process easier to deal with for the future. I still check your blog every day just to see if there are any updates, as I’m sure many of your followers (who all feel like friends!) do. Please don’t feel pressure to blog when you’re not up to it, but those of us who are out here thinking positive thoughts for you daily are always happy to see something from you and to know you’re OK. And of course, hopefully checking your blog gives you a little boost just seeing how much we all love you and all you do to make all of our lives a little cheerier…and cuter!

  151. A tidbit to make you smile, hopefully: We checked your Cake Pops cookbook out of the library and it has quickly become my two-year-old daughter’s favorite read-aloud! :) She loves turning the pages and naming all of the animals she sees. Yesterday she and Daddy had a hard time because she had her heart set on reading about the Cake Pops and he didn’t know where the book was! I know you didn’t intend it for two-year-olds, but thought you might smile to know that you have a two-year-old fan out there!

  152. I’m so happy you feel better!! Your website is the only thing that KEEPS me happy. You’ve inspired a twelve year old to the point that she’s almost as good as you!! Okay, that’s not so true, but anyway!! I’m so glad you’re better, really!!

  153. I’m so glad that you are home and that you are in great spirits!
    Praying for you, take care!

P.S. I just got your book in the mail yesterday, can’t wait to try the projects

  154. So glad you feel better and heading home. I am sending you good thoughts and I hope everything works out soon!
    Love xoxo

  155. Oh my dear… I just got to your blog and that’s the first post I saw. This is so awful!! I hope you get back to your normal life safe and healthy as soon as possible. I’m wishing for the best of luck and my warmest thoughts are with you…

  156. So glad to hear you are home! Everyone is more comfortable at home :-) Good luck with your continuing battle for health!

  157. Oops, I could not correct my spelling so I have to post a correction on the spelling of The Kidney Foundation and not Kinden.

  158. we just love this site so much there are ppl willing to give you a kidney to keep you going.

the hubby and i agree we want to donate everything we can. prayers sent for everyone who can to donate!

  159. Dear Lord, I have been away from the computer for a few days feeling the pain of what Japan is going through. I will be lifting you up in prayer as well. We have given to the Kinden Foundation for many years, its one we hold dear to our hearts. The lord has bless you with many wonderful people here offering their most vital parts and oh what a blessing that is. I do pray your mother will be a good candidate for you. Please know you and your family are in my prayers and if you need an ear or someone to talk to and pray with, I AM HERE for you…

May God walk with you during this time and lift your spirits and give you his awesome grace. After much prayer I have felt his power personally and that grace he offers is real. The bible says “where two or more are gathered, there he is”. LOOKS like you have many that are gathered praying for you. We are pushing the gates of heaven open with our prayers in Jesus name.
    A big southern Godly hug,
    Tammy

  180. Hi Angie, when I first read your twitter that you went to the hospital, I was in shock. Although I never met you I feel like you been my friend for many years. Its funny how how we become so close to someone that we don’t know.

I’m so glad that you are finally home. I’m sure you missed your space, your comfort. But Thanks to the Lord you are finally home. I pray that God may give you more strength to fight this battle.

    God Bless You.

Stay positive. We are all here for you.

    luv

  181. So good to hear from you today! I was just thinking of you again this morning. A coworker got some stuffed(?) Minions from “Despicable Me” for her grandson for the occasion of the birth of his little brother tomorrow. As soon as I saw them, I thought “Bakerella could make some killer cake pops of Minions!”

Hoping you’re feeling up to dabbling in the kitchen again soon and that the dialysis will be short-lived.

  182. All my positive thoughts are with you, really. Life puts us through difficult situations, but you’ve passed them once, and will do it again. I was fired 2 days ago, and cannot stop thinking how much I suffered in a place I did not feel I belonged and which only caused me pain. So see, hope to have a new life in a few months… just like you… just a teeny tiny bit different, of course.
Again, get better, and all my loving!
    Mercedes from Spain

  183. many blesses to you and yours. warm thoughts, good vibes, heartfelt prayers, too.

  184. Praying for you talented lady. God is in control and already has it covered (:

  185. I hope your recovery is swift and smooth!

I had the wonderful priviledge of donating a kidney about a year and a half ago. I was on a paired donation chain with my dad, so he received an anonymous kidney, and mine went to a 21-year old college kid. (Whoever he is, I hope he’s doing well!) To anyone who has ever thought about donating…DO IT! It is really not a big deal. I had to take one week off of work, but I was back to the gym 3 weeks later. I’ve had no comlications or restrictions on my lifestyle at all.

I think any healthy adult should seriously consider donating!

  186. Oh wow… I just emailed you and THEN came to check out the blog. I had no idea how sick you had been :-( I am glad you are feeling a bit better and I pray for your quick and complete recovery ?

  187. Hi Angie –

I am so happy to hear that you are well enough to come home. I know it won’t be easy with the dialysis treatments, but I am praying it won’t be for very long. You be good to yourself and take care. Sending prayers your way.

    Elaine Allen

  189. So happy to hear you’re home. I’m a huge fan of your blog and can’t wait for you to get better! Your posts bring sweet happiness to so many people! Hugs!!

  190. Glad to hear you are out of the hospital! I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

  191. Welcome home! I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Just remember that God doesn’t EVER give us a situation HE doesn’t think we can handle. God knows you are strong and that you will make it through this difficult time. You have so many readers and followers that are supporting you. We love following you and our hearts break to read what you are going through.

  192. I am so glad you are out of the hospital and feeling a bit better. My grandfather was on dialysis for the last 8 years of his life. He wasn’t eligible for a transplant so we knew his time with us was limited but we made the most of the time we had left with him. He was a stubborn strong man and lived for a lot longer than they thought he would. He always had to show off! I am praying for a donor for you and that you won’t have to be on dialysis long. Thank you for all your adorable ideas!

  193. Thank God you are home!! I have been so worried for you, thank you for checking in with us! You are a truly special person and you don’t deserve to go through what you are going through…yet you face it all with such grace! What an inspiration!! Big hugs to you…welcome home!!

  194. SO good to hear you have come home! Our family is praying for you consistently!

    You.are.amazing.

  195. sending you lots of love and many prayers! thanks for being so candid with your readers, and i hope your posts can encourage people to be organ donors! you’re an encouragement for us all :) XO

  196. More hugs!! I hope this will give you a little smile–some rainbow cake pops I made for St. Patrick’s Day :)
