Kisses to you

IMG_6251

Big sweet kisses.

Literally lips made of candy, cake and frosting. Can’t go wrong with that.

I really hadn’t planned to make these. I was just playing around with some Valentine cookie cutters I recently bought from Hobby Lobby – one of which happened to be kissing lips – and they turned out kinda cute. Kinda funny… especially when you walk up to someone holding them in front of your face and pretend to kiss them. Or maybe that’s just kinda weird. You tell me. Anyway, I kinda like them, so I thought you might to.

IMG_6274

Plus, I had these super duper cute paper straws that I wanted to use for the big day. (Thanks Sugar Diva) So I decked out my paper sticks in paper straws. Turns out you can slide them right on for an extra pop of color. (Pun intended.) Place a bit of melted coating in one end to help it stick to the stick because it’s not really a snug fit.

IMG_5965

To make the lip shapes, follow the basic instructions for cake pops but make your balls a bit bigger. At least based on the cutter I was using, they needed to be bigger. They also need to be chilled and firm to make it easier to shape. Then all I did was form the cake ball to the inside of the cutter, making sure the corners of the lips tapered down. Who wants blocky lips? Blocky no. Curvy yes. After you’re happy with the shape, you can use a toothpick and/or lollipop stick to draw a separation line for the top and bottom lip. Make it pretty defined or the candy coating will coat and cover the line too much and you won’t be able to tell there is a separation. Remove the lips from the cutter and then reshape any hard edges with your fingers.

Then, dip away.

Big kisses and lots of love to ya,
Bakerella

  16. Missing the days you updated this blog weekly.

  17. To our dear, sweet Bakerella –

Oh, we do miss you and only want the best. I am so sad to hear that you are still in the hospital. For someone with all the energy and fun the hospital must be like jail. Maybe we should host a jail break cake pop party all across the nation! Everyone who reads this blog would create a cake pop that helps represent a jail break (I’m thinking nail files poking out of the cake pop here)! Maybe all the good vibes and prayers from the baking and praying is what you need!

I just took on a new calling at Church, so am not in a place to coordinate something like this. So, I’m putting the challenge out there for someone else who might be so inclined to host a “Bakerella Cake Pop for Wellness” day! I would certainly make sure I joined in on the fun!

Obviously, I wish you well and will keep you in my prayers. I’ll be checking to see if we have a baking day!

  48. Bakerella where could you be? Are you poorly? If so get well soon, i am getting so worried something bad has happened to you. We are all fretting are little baking socks off and have been waiting for you to get better, it must be really serious because it has been about 2 weeks and 3 days that you haven’t been on! I don’t know about everyone else but i have been checking everyday to see if your back and now I just had to see if anyone else had noticed and started looking at all the posts, are you really ill? I think that may be what people are saying to sooth their cooking brains but ive never known anyone to be sick for this long! Oh wait you have that disease don’t you? Is that why your ill? Oh please just come back I can’t sleep at night l can’t concentrate at school and ive moved to ‘cake wrecks’ until you get back! It’s just so lonely without you! Talking about ‘cake wrecks’ I think we all are without you, think of this as a little plead to you to come back (if you can) and I don’t mean to be pushy but JUST COME BACK! *sniff sniff*
    signed ART.

  49. Wishing you good health. If we knew how to reach you many would send get well cards. You are so missed!

  59. I have been on your blog a few times and this is actually the first time that I decided to make something and honestly, I am truly glad that I made that decision(literally, no regrets). These are one of the best treats that I have ever had in my entire life. Thanks for the recipe and keep up the good work (also, you wouldn’t know where to buy the “lip” shaped cutters would you? I had to use some old circle ones that I had lying around lol).

  66. Bakerella, when will you be positing your next post? I look forward to them every monday :)

I understand if you’re busy – but would you mind please providing us with a general date to give us a good idea of when we might expect to see something new?

  67. To those wondering about Bakerella. She posted on facebook over the weekend that she had to cancel the book tour because she’s in the hospital. I hope I’m not out of place by sharing this info.

The Bakerella page on facebook is a public page. Simply google for Bakerella on facebook if you’re not a facebook member. You may need to belong to facebook to post, I’m not sure how that works. Anyhow, it’s a fun site, just like this one!

Get well soon, Bakerella! Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!

  68. where, oh where, has our bakerella gone? someone find her glass baking dish and bring her back!

  69. I recently made cream cheese frosting from scratch and it turned out great! I love how it tastes, you can use it on a lot of sweet treats, and it’s so easy and quick to make! All you need is cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, and confectioner’s sugar! I’ll definitely be using this frosting for most of my future baking experiences.

  70. WHEN ARE YYOU GOING TO POST AGAIN! :'(

  71. TO CLEAVE:

Hi, I’m from Australia and I just use whatever icing I feel like making – usually Swiss Meringue Buttercream as it’s super delicious! So what I’m saying is just try using a regular home made icing rather than a cream cheese based one and just add a couple of tablespoons at a time until the mix clumps together when your mixing. Using regular icing means you wont have to worry so much about refrigeration either.

Or if you really want the bought can of cream cheese frosting you can check out usafoods.com.au – they sell Duncan & Hines Cream Cheese Frosting (453g can) for AUD $4.59 and they post to NZ

    Hope this helps :)

  72. These are very adorable. Because it is the end of February, a truly LOVEly month, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your inspiration. It was when I discovered your blog last summer that I decided to begin my own baking blog in hopes to further my dream of baking for the world! I am having a lot of fun writing about my creations and only hope to be as great as you one day! Thanks for what you do.

    Sarah G from Springfield, MO

  76. Wow! That’s so cute! When are we gonna get another post??? It’s taking sooooo long! My Bakerella addiction needs it!!!!!

  77. Love everything you do!!! Where did you get the lips cookie cutter? Can’t find a good one like the one you used!! Thanks…

  78. You have a gift !!!!
    XOXO

  79. How long do these beauties keep? I’m hosting a baby shower and want to make them in advance… freeze or refrigerate, and for how long???
    Thank You!!

  80. Hi Bakerella
I am from New Zealand and I love your website!! But I have one question…..We can’t get the 1 can cream cheese frosting (16 oz.) over here. I have tried making cake pops several times and everytime I make them they turn out too moist :( I really think that the cream cheese frosting I use (I make it by hand) isn’t right for them. Do you by chance have a recipe for the frosting that may work instead of the can of frosting? I know it may be a long shot but I am desperate to make these perfect!! Thanks so much!

  84. As always these are just so cute… :o)

  85. yet ANOTHER reason you are my idol. amazing.

  86. Haha the candy lip pops were so funny yet cute for V-Day! If you have some different, fun materials you can definitely change up the way you design sweets, and so the lip cookie cutters were perfect for creating these treats. In fact, I think it would be cool to place the lip pops onto a cake or even on cupcakes, instead of having them stand alone. These pics and recipes made me want to go out and buy some fun baking materials!

  87. The lips are so cute! My DIL & I made conversation heart pops for my Granddaughter’s Valentine party at day care, and then my son & DIL took the rest to their work, on V.Day. I made the VDay tags to put on the sticks, too, and once they were put into their little cello bags, and tied with matching ribbons – they looked soooo professional !!! Everyone loved them! Now we’re looking at what to make for Easter! I wish we lived closer to each other – so we could make them more often — we are 3 hours away from each other! Thanks for all your inspiration – bakerella!!

  88. love these! they are so super cute and I love the straws!!

  89. You always have fabulous ideas. Tremendously cute!!! I bought your book yesterday. I love it! Can’t wait try them out!!!

  90. Cute!!
I’m no good at making cake pops but I love looking at yours!
    Jess : )

  91. Girl, you DO beat ALL!

    rachel

  92. I LOVE THOSE! Super fun!

  93. They are adorable. When not eating them, I would constantly hold them up to my lips and go around scaring people. :)

  94. I saw the straw idea on cake central back in Nov.

  95. This is such a cool idea! where did you get the lips cutter from? Please do share. Thanks!

  96. HA HA I bought the same tin of cutters! too cute to pass up, especially at 40% off! I was sold once I noticed the hershey kiss cutter! LOVE THEM. With a 5 year old little girl they will come in handy more than just at Valentines!

  97. Leesburg, VA PLEASE!!! :)

  98. I make some cake pops of sorts (ok more like cake candies) anywho I found that by pouring chocolate into the molds (not filling them just enought to cover the bottom and sides in a thin layer) than letting it harden its real easy than to take the cake/frosting mix and push that into the mold (leaving space at the top) and then pouring more chocolate over that and letting them set up you can than pop them out and VOILA you have cake (candies, bites?) and in any shape you want I of course did heart ones to go inside the valentine heart box I made of yours (which everyone loved).

  99. We’re making cakepops for my birthday party and are wondering how early can we make them ahead of time, can we freeze them? and how long do cakepop’s last?

  100. I am trying to make the wedding cake bits. Can anyone tell me if they should be like dough when you are done with them before putting the chocolate on them. I double my cake mix and used the Wilton’s pre made icing in the tub. That icing has a smell to it that I did not like. I just need to know if they would come out cake or very doughy. I need to make them today to have them ready for Friday night. 55 wedding cake pops.

  101. that is not funny thats weird but the cake pops are cute

  102. whats a substitute for candy melts?
dont think we have them here in australia..
but i love your stuff! simple amazing!

  103. I love ALL things cooking and crafty and found your blog some months ago!!! I’m sooo excited to now be the proud owner of your book after finding it here in Australia – I’ve been looking everywhere for it! Your blog has soooo much information but I DO love a goos book to sit and look at! AND the best part – I found somewhere local that sells all the specialists bits – can’t WAIT to try my first batch of pops!

  105. These are so cute! I made my first batch of cakepops for Valentine’s Day this year.. check it out!
    http://lohoemma.blogspot.com/2011/02/cake-pops.html

  106. I do not believe this, Angie. Did you read my mind?
On Valentine’s Day afternoon, I took some paper lips and mustaches (on sticks) to my kids valentine’s day party at school. While making them I was wishing that you had done them as cake pops… weird…
now, you need to make mustaches! : )

  107. I don’t think I can wait ’till next Valentines to make these for everyone!!! They are just too awesome!!! (as usual)

  108. superbe blog

    Anita

  153. Yes I agree – totally look like wax lips, but those taste nasty and these taste yum. The paper straws totally make it. Adorable.

  154. Absolutely adorable. I love all of the ideas you throw out here!!!! I have one question—with cake balls or pops—do you always use 1 pound of icing–can you use much less, especially if you are like me and have somewhat of a dislike of most icings???? Just curious how to make the pops work if you use less icing….
    Thanks for everything!!!

  155. Super cute! Why am I reminded of Rocky Horror Picture Show?! I expect them to start singing to me :)

  156. These are SO cute! Happy Valentine’s Day Bakerella!!

  157. They’re really nice! I’m so impressed how smoove you can make them. Are they exfoliated? *^_^* Really, how do you get the cake pop creations to smooth?

  158. I think I am going to make this as well :) I am making the fondant cake box cake for my boyfriend and I have cake balls in the fridge ready to be dipped! I might go ahead and reshape a couple :) Happy valetines day!

  159. I love the straws! Where in the world are you finding them??? I saw the milk shake ones and loved those, but I REALLY love these! Thanks for inspiring once again Bakerella!

  161. So cute! I could see these becoming fun wedding favors, instead of fake moustaches to wear during pictures – fake, edible cake lips!
