Cake Art Party Store! I started going here about two years ago when the baking and cake decorating bug bit me. When I first walked in, I was overwhelmed. Actually, I’m still overwhelmed. There’s so much stuff I don’t know… don’t even have a clue about… but I feel like I learn something new every single time I visit. Unfortunately, I can’t do that very often because this store makes me spend money.
Like on these things. I’m serious… this place is dangerous. I think I get a sugar high or something when I walk in … my heart starts racing … I start picking random stuff up. And when I get home, bags full… I’m like, what just happened.
But, when you see all these… in one place. You start thinking… do I have enough yellow sprinkles. I can’t remember. Okay, get some more and get some blue ones, and red ones while you’re at it.
And then, you start thinking that you can’t live without blue teddy bear sprinkles or green palm tree sprinkles, or pink pigs. And what if someone has a baby… I need those baby sprinkles or wait, boys like cupcakes… what about helmet and football sprinkles. You see where I’m going. Let’s just say that I have accumulated my fair share of sprinkles.
The funny thing is … I hardly ever use them on cupcakes or cakes. It just makes me feel good knowing I have them just in case. I know … weird! But, they do come in handy when it comes to decorating cake pops, so that’s how I justify it.
You can even buy them in bags!
Here’s something I’ve never tried… and I think I’ll leave for the pros… Airbrush! Pretty colors, though.
Speaking of colors… did you know you can buy rolled fondant that is already tinted?
I started doing this recently with red fondant because it is seriously a pain to tint it yourself and get it a deep red color.
Now, a lot of people don’t like the taste of fondant, they just like the look of it from a visual perspective. So, if you just want to experiment, then play around and buy it pre-made. Just don’t get this much. You can stick with the 1 pound packages.
Or if you really want, make some from scratch. I hear marshmallow fondant is pretty good.
Anyone need 25 lbs of buttercream frosting?
Or tinted buttercream?
Not me. I like to make my own buttercream and tint it myself. Yummy!
Need some petit four icing? Just snip the tip and go. Great for beginners.
Marzipan… I haven’t dabbled in this stuff yet, but I do like saying the name. Marzipan!
Check this out! This might just be the best part of the store. Pans! Round ones, oval ones, heart-shaped ones, square ones! And in graduated sizes, too! And different heights! Help me, please.
Tools. I love tools. Offset spatulas and flat spatulas. Thank you.
Inside these little trays are every decorating tip you can think of and some you can’t. Grab some disposable bags and couplers and you’re set.
There’s so much stuff in the store that you can miss little things like this. Petal dust and luster dust… I think I’m in love. Now, I just have to figure out what to do with it.
Need to stack a big cake? Sorry, I can’t help you… haven’t done that.
Mine are little and usually just end up on cake boards like these.
And sometimes, they get put in cake boxes. I love cake boxes. Especially the tiny ones.
Little cakes in little boxes are just the cutest!
Need some party supplies? They have that, too.

Tons and tons of plastic cake toppers. I’ve never bought anything down this aisle…
But, this one made me laugh so hard, I almost bought it for a Mother’s Day cake. Then, I pictured myself on Cake Wrecks and stopped myself. :)
Father’s Day is around the corner, though…
Almost done… hang in there. Cookie cutters are always fun to have.
And so are these. I have this set of dual sided graduated cutters. I love them and they come in super handy when I make fondant covered cupcakes.
Gadgets galore! I can’t stand in this section too long because my pantry just isn’t big enough.
And guess what… that’s just the half of it. Actually, the 1/8th of it. I wish I could show you everything.

Wow, the cake/candy store I go to is not any where near this large. That must be a store made in heaven. I love to make cake/oreo/nutter butter pops. I love rubber spatulas…they make it so easy to scrape buttercream, or batter…and no wasted batter!

My favorite baking tool is my clean up crew. One almost 4 year old does a great job cleaning out icing bowls….

Then probably my 2 extra wide cooling racks. I got them at a restaurant supply store, and each holds about 2 dozen cookies if you juggle them around a bit. It makes big jobs so much easier!

my favorite tool is my offset spatula. I LOVE all the sprinkles you showed! WOW! here in northern Maine you’re lucky to find regular “jimmies” sprinkles on a store shelf. It kind of sucks to have to special order everything off the internet. Takes the spur of the moment out of making cupcakes and sprinkles with the kids.

I am a certinifable sprinkle addict. But I am learning to work my addiction, not let it work me.
I love my gigantic spatula from Wilton. It’s probably 8 inches across. You can pick up and move whole cakes with it. I find myself using it all the time for one thing or another!
I have been searching for a beginner’s cake decorating kit other than the ones made by Wilton, but I have yet to find one locally. If I had a store like that though, I’d probably go in and never come out.
I found some awesome blue sugar sprinkles at Williams Sonoma the other day. My 3 year old son has claimed them as his pudding topping.

Oh My, look at the goodies in that store – sprinkles did someone say sprinkles, I just cant get enough of them. Favorite baking tool, would be my pastry bag and tips – just learning and love trying out the different tips. I would love to find sprinkles that would work for my 5 yr olds Elvis party in the Fall.

Very overwhelming, but beautiful! I am very very new to baking, so the thing I love right now is my new round cake tins. I had an older set that flared out on the sides, and then the cake is very lopsided looking. I LOVE the more professional ones with the sides straight up and down. Simple, but makes the cakes so much nicer. :)
First off, I want that store in my city!! We don’t have anything even remotely like it. I got goosebumps just looking at your pics! My favorite item currently is my fondant roll-cutter. I don’t even know what the proper name is! lol. Starting to dabble a lot more into fondant (and making it) and so it’s my best friend.

Sprinkles are a necessity in our house! My husband needs them on his ice cream/cupcakes/cakes, or so he says.

That store is nothing short of amazing! My medium size star tip is probably my most handy tool – it helped me make flames on my son’s birthday cake when he, very specifically, wanted Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting each other in the middle of flames.

All I can say is WOW, that store in unbelievable. I’m actually kind of glad it’s not closer to me, my credit card hurts just looking at the pictures.
It’s hard to pick one thing, but my small icing spatula is one of my most used tools.
I now realize my cupboard is severely sprinkle deficient.

WOW!! Why oh why don’t they have shops like this in the UK? I would practically live there!! Favourite gadget has to be my Kenwood mixer. It’s old (like me) but makes cupcaking sooo much easier. As for my wish list – well just try getting a 1M decorating tip over here – nightmare!

What a fantastic post, we had a small store that had great baking supplies. This store was around way before baking and decorating became so popular. I used to go there every month to add items to my pantry. Oh how I miss that shop, it closed 20 years ago. My favorite tool is blogs like yours, that is what makes me a great cook and baker.
I have a skinny long spatula with a cracked flowered handle that I “borrowed” from my mother some 20years ago. It makes the perfect frosting spreader. *update* I recently gave it back to her and she could not believe I had it for all these years. She was so happy to see it again.
I love wooden spoons! so I can lick off whatever is leftover from mixing delicious batters.

Lots of love for the off-set spatulas, maybe I should get one. Mini-cookie scoop is one of my best friends, so good for so many things, especially if you must have everything the same size.
But since I’ve gotten into this cake thing very recently (http://cakeconquest.blogspot.com/), my collapsible, stackable cookie racks are THE thing. I cannot imagine upending a 9×13 cake without them.

I’m actually out of sprinkles. I used up what I had left on cupcake bites for Easter! I swear I put those things on everything!

I can’t even imagine how poor I would be living near this store. My favourite is/are the entremet rings near the end – they’re so great to have – I only have 2, but I see they have triangles and so many sizes – OMG heaven.
OMG, that store looks like heaven! We don’t have anyplace like that around here. I found one tiny little store with a few things, and Michael’s has some stuff… but that store looks amazing! I love sprinkles!

I love my offset spatulas and my mini ice cream scoop for making uniform cookies. I also love collecting the decorator tips…I’m not good at using them, though!

I have my grandmother’s cookie cutters. Couldn’t have Christmas without them!
My favorite decorating item would have to be a plastic bag or ziplog baggie. Just snip and frost, you can even make cool designs! Cheap, easy, just my style.

WOW!! I love stores like that…so many possibilities! My favorite sprinkles are not sprinkles but jimmies – that’s what a chocolate sprinkle is – in particular the chocolate jimmies from King Arthur…mmmmm! They make everything better!

I new to all of this! I love, love your cake balls and cake pops. I have tried two different times to make them. They are not as pretty as yours, but I am determined to perfect them! They are just yummy and so darn cute. My grand kids love them. I think this cake hobby could become very addicting. I NEED IT ALL!

I can’t believe all those comments! I’d like to enter too. My favorite tool is my small (I think the metal part is about 3″ long) offset spatula. I use it for lots of things, from spreading ricotta onto dried sheets of lasagne to frosting cupcakes. I have an 8 year old daughter and hardly a day goes by without using sprinkles – even if it’s just putting a few on a scoop of ice cream.

I love all of my Wilton Comfort Grip cookie cutters. It is a cheap thrill every time they come out with a new one. Fun.

That store is seriously awesome! Wish I lived close enough to browse there. I use my offset spatula the most, but I covet all sorts of kitchen gadgets…I wish I had room for them all.

i would die without my kitchenaid mixer. i made 10dozen cupcakes last night, and it made it as easy as making 1.
OMG I would die for a store like that the store I have shopped at for 40 years went out of business, now it’s Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. The best thing they have come up with is the spray release for the pans no more guess it the cake going to come out or not, no more patching cake back together again.
I blacked out half way through that post. My eyes rolled back and I thought I had gone to heaven. Only as I was passing out I grabbed the power cord to my computer and that’s when I knew I WAS dreaming. Good gawd. I need to calm down.

Cake Art sounds like an expanded version of my favorite cake store here in Madison, WI–The Vanilla Bean. I just love going in there and browsing and thinking about all the things I could make and do with everything they have. *swoon*
Now…what can’t I live without? Hard to say, but I’ll have to say my pastry bag and tips/couplers. They just make me feel creative and powerful and fun and stuff. :D

Wow – I wish we had a store in Auburn, Alabama that had half those items. I started baking with my mom when I was in high school. She always took the cake decorating classes. I don’t know if this counts because its an ingredient (as opposed to tool or decor item), but I love Hershey’s dark cocoa powder for baking. It just has a much more real chocolate flavor for baking.
I’m going to have to share in the KitchenAid Mixer love. I’ve burnt out handmixers on buttercream, but that makes even large batches with no problem!
Sprinkles are the best. I’m always wishing that I had some of those little silver balls to decorate cupcakes with, but I can never find them when I need them and never think to order them to have on hand. And my favorite tool is my offset spatula. Makes decorating a cake so much easier.

You are soooo lucky – talk about a decorator’s heaven – Cake Art is IT!
My favorite tyool when working with chocolate or any type of candy coating is an old beat-up warming tray (the kind you use on a buffet to keep food warm.) I place the chocolate/candy melts in individual disposable aluminum loaf pans, line them up on the warming tray (set on “low”) and 20 minutes later have melted product that is the perfect temperature for dipping, molding, decorating. Nothing ever burns.
Simply keep leftover chocolate in the pan, cover with foil and plop it on the warmer the next time needed.

I love decorating with silver and gold dragees, and it’s SO HARD to pick a favorite tool, but probably my light green KitchenAid mixer. I’d be lost without it and don’t know how I managed before it.

Oh my goodness gracious! Over whelming is an under statement. Wowsers! I’m all about the sprinkles…they are the icing on the cake! Okay…they are the sprinkles on the icing on the cake!!
My god…I’d completely lose it in that store. In a very good way (or bad, depending on how you look at it). I wish there was a place like that near here, but then I’d be hopelessly broke with piles and piles of sprinkles and pans and doohickeys piled up in my already-overflowing kitchen cupboards. Yikes!
One tool that I’ve been loving lately is my hand mixer. I use it a lot more than my big ol’ Kitchen Aid mixer because I suppose I like to move the beaters around the bowl more to make sure everything is mixed. Or maybe I just feel more like I’ve actually done something. Who knows :o) BTW, I’ve been totally eager to grab some of those, tiny-candy coated chocolates, but I always forget them when I’m at the store!

i love my cookie scoops and icing spatulas. i have managed to lose 2 of the 3 i bought when i first started making cakes. the ones i can find now are not comfortable in my hand so i haven’t replaced them. i really miss my small offset one.

One of those dipping tools that holds the round candy…. the one you can use to make chocolate covered cherries…. yeah, one of those would be pretty neat!

Your post reminds me of Maid of Scandinavia/Sweet Celebrations in Mpls/St. Paul. Although it is no longer in business, I’ll always have the memories!
