Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

IMG_9497

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

Enter for a chance to win this Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchenaid!

  • Just leave a comment on this post here on the website and answer the following question.
  • If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose? And not just cookie or cupcake, etc. – but what kind if you can? I’m very curious.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

And big thanks to Kitchenaid for supplying the mixer in this beautiful blue.

  1. brownie with full of chocolate sauce with walnut =)

  2. Had to have my hubby help narrow my faves. The winner? Red velvet cake layered with yum yum yummy cream cheese frosting!

  3. If I had to pick JUST one it would have to be the very simple, very classic, very scrummy homemade flapjack with raisins….must dash.. Now I’ve mentioned them, I’ve got to go & make ’em!! :-)

  4. A strawberry banana nutella crepe with green tea gelato topped with whipped cream :-) my all-in-one favorite dessert! Thanks Bakerella for being an inspiration! God bless!

  5. Nothing beats a Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Brownie, yep, that would be it for me. forever. Ahhh

  6. This was so hard for me to decide! But I think I would go with pumpkin cookies! I love when they are just a touch underbaked and gooey.. yuumm!!! Thanks for the awesome giveaway and the sweet memories of all the yummy desserts I’ve shared and the poeple I shared them with!

  7. So many to choose from! But it would probably be Little Debbie Moon Pies or Hostess SnoBalls!

  8. If I could eat one dessert…only…forever & ever…. it would be ..my grandmother’s rhubarb slush/sauce. It is incredibly sweet and tangy and versatile all at the same time. And most of all, it reminds me of home. I’m a military wife and time at “home home” is precious and few & far between. Having desserts made by my grandma that I can recreate make me happy as can be. Her rhubarb sauce is my absolute favorite and we put it on everything from ice cream to cake to freezing it and making punch out of it. You can’t go wrong with that if you have to eat it for the rest of your life!

And ohmygorgeous KitchenAid….apparently you are the reason I haven’t bought one yet….I wasn’t really sold on any of the color ones until this one! PRE-TTTTY!

  9. As long as it had chocolate, nuts , caramel and was gooey!

  10. Oh I love the blue! My all-time favorite dessert would have to be a slice of chocolate cake, a scoop of mint choc chip ice cream and some fresh strawberries…..greedy? Yes!

  11. I love all types of desserts but if I could only choose one I would go with a red velvet cheesecake topped with white chocolate curls!

  12. My new passion is to start baking all of the recipes I was just reading on here! And I’m obsessing over that cute blue mixer!!

    Yes Please!!!!

  13. I would have to go with “Poi Malasadas” from Kamehameha Bakery! If you get the time to come to O’ahu, make sure you swing by the little hole in the wall bakery for some sugary, warm, awesome-ness!! Don’t miss out! By the way, love love love your blog, you inspired me to get back to baking! Mahalo nui loa and Aloha from Hawai’i!

  14. oooh! i would onlyonly eat ice cream with straw berries! not too innovative but none the less DELICIOUS!

  15. Hmm, that question’s like envisioning a horrible world! I’d have to say regular angel food cake- it can be jazzed up with so many fruit varieties, or chocolate sauce, etc. that I don’t think I’d ever get bored- plus it’s my go-to “I want” dessert now anyway!!

  16. Without a doubt lemon bars! I love their tartness!

  17. Fudge with Carmel and nuts!

  18. I would choose one of our wedding cakes for dessert because it reminds me of such a great day and the cake was out of this world. We had 3 different kinds of mini cakes made. The cakes I asked for had a cheesecake like base with champagne buttercream and meringue. The little cake was covered in white chocolate – my favourite!

  19. It would definitely be chantilly cake…so sweet, moist, and delicious…always gotta have this every year (if not then an ice cream cake) for my birthday!!!!

I cant say i have a favorite colour they are all just so stunning. Having this mixer on a kitchen table top would make any kitchen look hot. its soo Kitchen Porn.

  27. A strawberry banana nutella crepe with green tea gelato! It’s my all-in-one dessert go-to :-)
Thanks Bakerella for your inspiration & generosity! God Bless :-)

  33. Oh my, this was difficult to decide, I love SO many! But if I HAD to choose (sorry I had to narrow it down to 2, its just hard to pick only one) I would definitely go with a really well made home-baked cheescake, with no additional flavours, just plain….yummmm!! Another favorite is of course lemon meringue, but must be extra lemony! Deeeelish!!!! Gosh, now I craving :/

  36. I think I would choose brownies. The ones without nuts, but with a lot of chocolate in it…

  37. Chocolate chip cookie dough! Homemade of course. Straight from the kitchen aid to the fridge. Why bother baking?!

  38. Fudge with Carmel ands nuts!

  39. hahaha is there a rule in adding and omitting toppings?

’cause I could probably live off of crepes,

but nutella banana ones are my favorite :]

  40. Chocolate layer cake with chocolate frosting… I don’t have one certain recipe for this, but many that I’ve made and that I’ve had different places. I LOVE chocolate cake!

  54. Carrot cake, love it! But since it’s almost Easter, I do love those peanut butter eggs—–it would be a hard choice, but I’d be happy with either I think! :)

  55. i have to correct myself.
It has to be ‘nutella’ :))

  56. I’d have sugee cake. It’s a Singapore Eurasian rich butter cake. It’s made with a lot of egg yolks and sugee (semolina) instead of the typically used self raising flour. It just melts in my mouth!

  153. Hmmm. I’d have to say my Ginger cookies. It’s a recipe given to me by a friend, and I can’t keep any of these in the house, or I will eat until I’m sick. They’re SOOO GOOD.

  154. If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life I would definitely have to go with red velvet cake with cream cheese icing!!! Its my absolute favorite!!!

  158. I would gladly have the traditional apple pie for the rest of my life! Anything with baked apples and apple sauce is just awesome.

  159. I’d only eat red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese topping. Beautiful color combination, so bright and lovely. The name is soft and inviting. And red velvet is eating chocolate without the guilt, because it doesn’t look like chocolate, so nobody will know ;)

Oh and I’ve wanted to own a Kitchenaid since I was a little girl. Please let this be my lucky number!

  160. I would definitely eat Tiramisu! I love all the layers of deliciousness and the hint of run doesn’t hurt either ;)

  161. Awesome giveaway! Keeping our fingers crossed :)

My favorite desset/sweet. I don’t know what they are called in English but they are called pastelitos de platano. They are like “cakes” made out of just plantains filled with either pinto beans or with creme and then some sugar gets sprinkled in top. And then they are fried. Oh my… those are my all time favorite!!!

  165. If I had to eat one sweet for the rest of my life it would be my husband’s chocolate molten soufflés without question!
Not only are they DELICIOUS, my husband has no culinary training, he isn’t a chef or baker.. He is a serving Australian Soldier! This man lives on ration packs 90% of the time, and yet whips up the most amazing desserts from scratch whenever he is home. And home is something he isn’t very often, so this dessert fills me with such wonderful memories and is something special I remember on the lonely nights waiting for his return. :)

  166. I choose apple pie with vanilla ice cream

  167. The cake I could eat for the rest of my life, as a good Italian, is the tiramisu … :))
    ….mascarpone cream…coffee …cocoa… mmhhh, delicious!! ^_^

  168. For me it would have to be chocolate cupcakes. Any and all kinds. Must. Have chocolate!

  169. Hey hello! :)

This question is the hardest question I ever have to answer. I love everything sweet and I couldn’t live without one of them but if I had to choose one for the rest of my life, it would be the homemade pancake (in austria we say: Palatschinken and it’s different from the “american style” pancake) from my grandma. I have ate it since 25 years (and I’m 25 xD) and love it. They are the best and you can eat it with sooo much different topics – it’s perfect! :D

    Lovely greetings from Austria
    Chritina

  170. The one dessert that I can eat forever would be homemade crepes with nutella, bananas, and strawberries! (: They remind me of the first time I was truly exposed to the world of baking, when I had to make the crepes for a french project. From that moment on, I am TRULY in love with baking!

  171. If I had to eat just one type of dessert for the rest of my life I would choose good old chocolate chip cookies! I just love them. Chunky or thin, melty or hard, with ice cream in between like a sandwich- Anyway they’re just so good!

  172. Easy one. I’d pick Sacher Torte! Definitely my favorite cake! :)

  173. If I could only pick one dessert, I would pick macarons – specifically green tea macarons or really, any green tea dessert for that matter!

  175. If I could only eat one kind of dessert for the rest of my life, it would have to be Salted Caramel cupcakes – I love sweet/salty together and this covers them both – My fave!

  176. If I had to pick one dessert it would probably be cheesecake, and pumpkin cheesecake at that. That is the only kind of cake that I can actually eat one whole cake of…maybe two…

  177. If i had to pick just one desert. I choose apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

  180. My one dessert would have to be Tiramisu. Such a sexy dessert. :)

  181. Choosing one sweet for the rest of my life would be tough. Ice cream is my first love… but I think my choice would be my mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies. Then I could eat them backed and unbaked… right?!? :)

  182. I would have to say… My grandpa’s crunchy, yet melt in your mouth, peanut butter cookies! So good!

  183. I love crisps … fresh out of the oven with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, it can’t be beat. My favourite crisps have a combination of fresh and dried fruit with either almonds or pistachios, and I always use large flake oatmeal with real butter (no margarine!!). YUM YUM YUMMY YUM YUM!

  184. If I could only eat one kind of dessert for the rest of my life, I’d choose Tiramisu without a doubt. It’s the dessert that me and my boyfriend ate to celebrate our anniversary 2 years ago. For me, eating a Tiramisu is not only just about the flavour but also about the love we have for each other :) The love that we’ve almost lost lately…

  185. A St. Joseph pastry! They are usually just available in March in honor of St. Joseph’s Day and oh so delicious!!!

  186. Valrhona chocolate souffle lava cake! :)

  187. If I could choose only one dessert it would be chocolate ice cream!

  188. Mochi ice cream :)

  189. I would eat “Ptich’e moloko” (in english it will be something like “bird’s milk”) light cake with a gentle souffle

  190. It’s very hard to choose just one but if I must it would be my soft molasses cookies. Too die for and taste perfect with a great cup of coffee.

P.s. That blue mixer is amazing! They’re all amazing but the blue has got something special. :)

  195. Hmm, something not too sweet. I’m tempted to say tiramisu. And this mixer would be perfect for whipping the mascarpone :)

  196. Oh man, it would have to be a chocolate cupcake with buttercream frosting from my favorite little bakeshop. I dream about it!!
