Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  6. I’m going to paint my kitchen soon and that shade of blue would perfectly match the color scheme I’ve picked out! I love it!

  7. Oh my gosh. I think if I were to have to choose only one, it would be my mom’s butter toffee cake. She makes it with Butter pecan cake, and instead of frosting, she makes a crunchy topping with Heath Bar toffee bits!

  8. I would have to have something chocolate and cakey. Like a nice moist sour cream chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream frosting. YUM!!! Oh and I could make it in my new blue kitchenaid. 18. I would eat peanut butter and jelly cupcakes with a peanut butter cream cheese icing. And a glass of milk. A kitchenaid would make making those cupcakes a lot easier than my handheld! You’re awesome! <3

  19. Ok, for me it would have to be gluten free chocolate chip cookies made by my partner. Not by me, I can’t make them taste the same…….believe me, I’ve tried! They are a such an amazingly beautiful cookie made with almond flour, virgin coconut oil, chocolate chips; and he bakes them to this just-barely-crunchy-around-the-edges, chewy, gooey perfection. I’d be happy never putting another sweet treat near my lips if he could just make these cookies for me forever! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  20. Hmmm, just one is tough. However, I would choose chocolate creme brulee with a dollop of homemade whipped cream on top with a fanned strawberry!

  21. There is a little gas station about 20 miles from my house that has the best soft serve ice cream and my husband jokes that we can’t go thru that town without stopping to get a twist cone so I would have to say if I had to pick just one thing it would have to be those wonderful twist cones! Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. Chocolate ice cream–simple and chocolate-y!

  23. I’d have to say home made cinnamon buns with cream cheese icing, yum! I try not to make them too often because they are too addicting! Thanks for the giveaway!!

    Anyways for your question.
If I could only eat one desert for the rest of my life…it would probably be Peanut Butter M&Ms….they’ve got the perfect amount of chocolate and pb…and I love it when they’re slightly melted inside….mmmmmmmmm.
I wish I liked more fancy stuff…and I DO…but for something I could have EVERY day and not get tired of..I’m just a simpleton haha. I like variety and to try too many new things to be able to easily pick one haha :P

  39. For me it would have to be Lemon Meringue Pie. I love the fluffyness of the meringue, and the pucker power tartness of the Lemon curd, and i would even do without the crust to just enjoy those two flavours together!

  40. I would have to say brownies. And then I could make them into spiders brownie balls like you did with Paula Dean for Halloween, They were so cute and scary. But who wants to only have one dessert. There are so many out there. Just reading through some of your comments makes me want several differnt sweets. And some I have never tried before.

Wow!! ;) My favourite dessert would have to be a combination of a slice of my Mum’s brandy tart (why does mine never taste as good??) and a slice of Boston cheesecake. Vanessa M

  47. I would have to say 7 layer bars because they have a little bit of everything. :)

  48. Strawberries over angel food cake drizzled with buttercream icing!!

  49. I would have to choose my sisters large soft centre meringues (that she makes with vinegar) with whipped cream and mixed berry sauce, it is to dye for!! We often have it on special occassions as it really is a special dessert. :)

  50. A cheesecake with pecan praline topping. Yummy!!

They are the perfect blend of sweet and rich. And when you get one just out of the oven and coat it in powdered sugar, they just melt in your mouth – plus, you’re left with delicious Butterball goo on your fingertips!

  182. If I had to choose just one thing….( And I am silently praying this NEVER happens! lol ) It would have to be my momma Homemade Strawberry Cake – the frost alone is amazing and the cake is so moist, its layered and you can see the little pieces of strawberry inside, yummies!….Now Im gonna have to have her make me one!!
