Here we go.

I just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow is the big day.

In the morning my mom and I are going into surgery.

It’s finally here and we are both ready.

I can’t wait to be through with dialysis. Actually, if all goes as planned, tonight was my last treatment. Giant Yay! Sprinkled with cartwheels! Yay. Yay. Yay.

I am sorry that these past several weeks have been boring around here. But, I’m excited just thinking about feeling good again, so it won’t be boring for too much longer.

Thank you all for your concern, for your wonderful emails, for your patience, and your prayers. I really appreciate all of it.

My mom wanted to thank you, too.

From my mom……

P.S. I’ll try to let you know how we are doing through twitter. Big hugs.

UPDATE: The surgery went fantastic. The doctors couldn’t be happier with how we are both doing. My mom’s kidney started working right away which they don’t always do. Sometimes it takes a little while for everything to kick in. It was doing so well that I was also able to have the dialysis catheter removed before I came home. Thank goodness. I couldn’t wait to have that thing taken out. I’m home now recovering and so is my mom. She’s doing great, too. We are just both very sore. You know, when I had my first kidney transplant almost 19 years ago, I stayed in the hospital for almost two weeks. But this time I came home after four days. Just amazing. It’s really good to be home. Anyway, I just wanted to give you a quick update. Thank you all again for leaving such wonderful messages. We’ve both enjoyed reading them and it’s made the last few days even brighter.

  1. So glad to hear that you’re doing well! You bring such joy through your website and it sounds like you’re pretty cool in person too. I get the feeling that you’re probably too modest to even think it, but I believe that by making your issue public, you’ve done a great service to others who are waiting for a match. Best wishes to you for the future.

  2. So happy to hear that the surgery went well – and that recovery is going well, too! You touch so many bakers with your wonderful outlook on life!

  4. I haven’t received an Email from bakerella in a very long time. So sorry to hear of your illness, thrilled as a mother, for your mother and her ability to help you. As mothers we always want to help but are not always able.
I pray that God will continue, with His Blessed Mother, to heal you both to full recovery.

  5. Please reply via e-mail if that is better for you.In fact, you don’t even need to publish this comnent, because of it’s personal nature unless you feel so led.
Questions: Were you on PD? Is that the catheter you were referring to that they removed?
Did your Mom have the surgery done lapriscopilly(sp?) ? Would she be able to e-mail my niece who is donating me a kidney? So much has changed since my last one.
This willl be (PTL) my fourth kidney transplant over a period of 40 years and intermitent dialysis. The other three donors were siblings.
Such sacrifice and love. None greater, except that from Jesus.

  6. New Update, Please! Were you on PD? Is that the catheter removal you were referring to? Did your Mom have it done lapriscopically?
Curious because I m awaiting another transplant myself. This one from my niece.
I’m praying for both your recoveries. YO may e- mail me privately if that is better for you.

  117. Just read your story. In March of this year, my husband donated a kidney to a co-worker of sorts. We had never met him. We heard of his need through an email that went state wide to all of our employees (we work for the State of California). We met on the day of their pre-op, the week before surgery. What an adventure this has been! So glad to hear all went well. Our story is very similar. My husband’s kidney started working immediately. What a blessing for all. May God continue to bless you.

    With love –
    Frances

    Angel

  142. So glad to hear that the surgery was a success, and especially that you were able to go home so quickly. I was praying the other night and got the “church giggles” because I realized that it sounded a little funny for me to be praying for “Bakerella” instead of by your first name. Then I thanked God that He knows all of us, in all of our different roles, and it made me that much more grateful for His provision and protection over us all. You and your Mom will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

  143. Wishing you n ur mum all the best! Recover soon!!

  144. So good to hear things are going well. You are both still in my thoughts and prayers!

  145. I am so happy to hear your transplant went well! your story parallel’s my beloved big brother’s adventure…he had his first transplant in 1989, and even though the kidney started working right away, he was in the hospital for nearly FOUR MONTHS. Two years ago he had his second transplant, donated by our first cousin…he was released just four days later – what a difference! Here’s wishing you and your dear mom a fast recovery. much love to you.

  146. Please don’t apologize for your lack of baking as of late. Just glad your surgery went well and you and your mom are on your way to recovery.
I look forward to hearing updates and seeing new posts.

I pray for you on a regular basis, and feel as if I “know” you! tee hee Take care of yourself… we need your wonderful ideas and a SECOND book! LOL I just purchased the first one and look at all the cake pops with pure amazement! Work on getting yourself healed and many hugs to you and your Mom!

  189. SO HAPPY that you and your Mom are doing well. God is good! Here are some special “Power Verses”.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:6-7

. . . you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you.Isaiah 30:19

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
    Isaiah 41:10

Praise the LORD! How good it is to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how right! The LORD is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel. He heals the brokenhearted, binding up their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!
    Psalms 147:1-11

When I think of the wisdom and scope of God’s plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.
    Ephesians 3:14-16

So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while. These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold – and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him, you trust him; and even now you are happy with a glorious, inexpressible joy. Your reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
    1 Peter 1:6-9

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
    Jeremiah 29:11-13
