Joy with friends and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Wendy, Bridget and Amy

I was in Columbus, Ohio last weekend visiting with some sweet friends that I’ve met through blogging… Wendy of Wenderly, Bridget of Bake at 350, and Amy of She Wears Many Hats. Hi guys! I mean girls.

Wendy lives in Ohio and invited us to spend a few days at her cabin in the woods. Has anyone seen that movie? And yes, I totally spent the weekend suggesting scary movie situations to them. What if this – and what if that. But mostly scaring myself. I definitely watch way too many SyFy Sunday movies. If you watch that channel, you know the ones I mean.

Anyway, we kicked off our fun cabining weekend with a straight from the airport pitstop for lunch and then Jeni’s ice cream. Yay!

Jeni's Ice Cream

Jeni’s is based in Ohio and I’ve been wanting to visit one of her scoop shops for some time now.

Jeni's Signature Flavors

She has some incredible flavors. Or should I say splendid.

And yogurt too.

I love all the chalk writing and window words. So cute.

Jeni's Ice Cream

The inside of the store is perfect with the ceiling strung in little lights and paper garland.

Jeni's Ice Cream

You can buy ice cream by the scoop and by the pint. Whoohoo!

So many flavors. Signature and seasonal ones too.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Like this one for flu season. Influenza sorbet.

Soothing for the sickly. Made with cayenne pepper, ginger, bourbon, honey, orange and lemon juices.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Handwritten! Love it and love how the same flavors are written by different people. What a fun way to add that personal touch.

And now I have a strange desire get a job handwriting ice cream labels. I wonder if I could add hearts and smiley faces.

By the way, if you’re in Ohio, stop what you are doing right now and run and get some of that Maple Walnut ice cream. It’s fantastic. I think that container on the top right is actually mocking me right now with all of its maple amazingness. I even tried to order some more today online, but that flavor is seasonal and isn’t shipping. Wipes tear. So get it in stores while you can.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Sweet friends, ice cream and a great start to our winter weekend away.

You know what, you can also make your own Jeni’s ice cream. Check out her book: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home.
Jeni's Ice Cream

The staff at Jeni’s was great. Super patient. They didn’t even mind the 571 samples we asked for. But I think that’s pretty smart of them, because then we ended up ordering 571 scoops to enjoy. You know … just to be absolutely sure they were good. : )

Jeni's Ice Cream

Okay not really 571 scoops, but several. Here’s a few of the flavors we all sampled.

Enjoyed and instagrammed. It’s a mandatory food blogging thing … to share when something is so so good.

Jeni's Ice Cream

My favorites right now: Dark Chocolate (of course) and that Maple Walnut. Goodness. Very goodness!

Amy, Wendy & Bridget

While we were laughing and sampling, we had a fun surprise. Jeni stopped in the location we were at. With several stores, we certainly weren’t expecting that. Wendy had met her before so she introduced us.

Me and Jeni

Hi Jeni! Your ice cream makes my tummy happy.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Such a great smile. It’s nice to see when people are doing something they love.

Visit Jeni’s Ice Cream for online ordering, scoop shop locations and where to buy by the pint in other states.

  1. Ice cream all the way! :)

  2. I love it all. Especially anything with chocolate!!

  3. I don’t discriminate :) Iove all frozen treats.

  4. I love ice cream, with lots of whipped cream! Yumm!

  5. It’s 5 degrees here and all I can think about now is those awesome flavors! ;) I love frozen yogurt and ice cream. Ice cream more during the fall and winter months and frozen yogurt during the spring and summer since it is so readily available then.

  6. I LOVE Jeni’s! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE ice cream. Growing up, we would eat ice cream like every other day (and somehow I’m not overweight! ha!) My husband doesn’t understand my obsession with ice cream. But I can’t help it. I LOVE ice cream.

Jeni’s is (semi) local — we live in Akron, so not too far from Columbus. And we have one about 20 minutes from here.
But we also have a local ice cream place in cleveland called Mitchell’s. They use all locally sourced ingredients and it is amazing! :)

  7. I love ice cream!

  8. I do love ice cream and coffee is my favorite flavor. I try to make it often in the summer months. Would love to try this ice cream!

  9. Sorbet or sherbet in the summer, anything ice cream the rest of the year. I live 2 hours from jeni’s, just might have to take a field trip!

  10. I love them all, but prefer ice cream and usually eat yogurt. these flavors sound amazing!

  11. I’m all about ice cream – I love it!

Jeni’s does make some awesome ice cream. I’ve been in the Columbus area for about four years now and after driving by the Dublin store several times, finally stopped in one day last summer. The salted caramel ice cream is fabulous!!!!!

  12. Yum! I love frozen yogurt but just slightly more than ice cream. :-)

  13. All about the icecream….
although I’ve been known to mostly do frozen yogurt to watch the waistline. My husband and I (and now daughter too) are obsessed.

  14. Ice cream!!
And 17 pints??? Holy moley would I be a happy girl. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  15. When it’s freshly made (as opposed to mass produced/store bought), my tummy knows no bounds :) I love a great sorbet, and they are so hard to come by in Iowa! That being said, ice cream has been my friend through good and bad times. I really just love well-made frozen treats of all kinds :) Those pints would totally fit into the new deep-freeze that we bought!

  16. Always been about the ice cream–when I travel I make it a point to try the ice cream wherever I go. Frozen yogurts been gaining some ground though :)

  17. What a sweet giveaway! I love any kind of ice cream!!!!

  18. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate ice cream. Every night.

  19. Ice cream all the way! My favorite parts are the toppings: cherries, whipped dream, candy, brownies, caramel sauce, oh my! And cookie dough ice cream. Mmmmm.

  20. I am an ice cream junkie! Love a rich dark chocolate scoop but seeing now how that influenza sorbet mentions the elixir of the Gods- bourbon, I could and SHOULD give it a whirl!

  21. Ice cream!! Anything with chocolate in it…. even better if it has peanut butter or caramel as well….!!

  22. All about the ice cream! Chocolate chip mint. Oreo. My favorite flavor from the shop around the corner in college was Turbo Chocolate. Jeni’s look scrumptious! Thanks for the giveaway!

  23. Hmm, seems not too many people like sorbet,as much as I do. Pure clear flavors. However, 17 pints of ice cream don’t sound so bad. Thanks for the chance.

  24. Definitely ice cream! I love mint chocolate chip the best, although when I was pregnant I couldn’t get enough chocolate!

  25. My favorite frozen treat is chocolate frozen yogurt. I’m a huge frozen yogurt fan.

  26. I scream for Ice Cream!

  27. I love real ice cream and I’d love to try every flavor of Jeni’s.

  28. I was just reading about her and the’influzenza” sorbet. It sounds like a frozen hot toddy! I love ice-cream, sorbet etc. I have a ice-cream machine, and a Ben & Jerry’s cookbook. I would say I am a lover of it for sure. I pick peaches in the summer so I can make peach ice-cream year long! Thanks for the chance to win.

  29. I used to work in an ice cream store so I am all about the ice cream! Even being around it every day didn’t stop me from sampling all the time haha

  30. Definitely ice cream! Especially when served with something warm like a brownie or chocolate chip cookie, yum!

  35. I love it all! Congrats to Jeni for making an awesome product!!!

  36. I am all about the ice cream!! And those favors sound soooooo good!!

  37. I’m all about ice cream. Usually I go for the classics such as cookies n creme and mint chocolate chip, but lately banana flavored ice creams have been catching my eye. Especially Cold Stone’s Banana Caramel Crunch and Carl’s Jr’s Banana Chocolate Chip Shake…yum!!

  42. Depending on the day , I’m usually ALL about ICE CREAM , and sometimes full on Frozen Yogurt ( I admit , sometimes I have one of those ” I feel fat ” days , and opt for Frozen Yogurt instead….hehehe) But nothing beats the rich yummy-ness of Ice Cream. ( I was tickled pink to see Pistachio and Honey! YUM! )

My favorite Frozen dessert? Definately Ice Cream , but I love mine on top of a warm out of the oven Brownie ( corner piece of course!! ) Just when you think a brownie can’t be better , you get to the bottom where the brownie has been soaked in rich Vanilla Ice cream…..YUM-O

Thank you for offering such a nice giveaway!

  43. Ice cream! I’m a sucker for a really good vanilla…or strawberry cheesecake.

  44. Matcha green tea soft serve ice cream is my absolute favorite. Next is the coffee flavor at San Francisco’s famed Ice Cream Bar…But if I ever get a chance to taste Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, I may be changing my tune =)

  45. Well. I’m into like ANY kind of icecream, sorbet, frozen yogurt or stuff like thank, love them and could eat them all summer long :-)

  46. Oh my, those flavors look delish! I’d have to go with sorbet being a fave, at least when you can get unusual flavors (Whole Foods has done some lavender and rose water ones which were great). But for my all time favorite frozen treat, I’d have to go with the old school Thrifty’s/Rite Aid mint chip/chocolate malted crunch double of my childhood (although that poached pear & riesling number looks awfully good!).

  47. I am ALL ABOUT ice cream but I love frozen yogurt too, and I’m just starting to dabble in sorbet! Deep dark chocolate is always good, but I love just about anything.

  48. Ice cream!! The best flavor I ever tried was ginger at a little ice cream shop in Portland, Maine. Jeni’s flavors sound ah-ma-zing, I hope I win!!!

  50. Ice cream. It goes with everything…cake, pie, hot fudge, caramel….a spoon!

  52. My sister lives in Cbus so I knew exactly what this post was about by reading the title! I only tried the salted caramel and it was AMAZING!

I’m 100% ice cream girl, though gelato and yoghurt are good sometimes too. My favourite is just a nice creamy ice cream, no toppings or anything. I like frozen desserts over anything – I even put chocolate and marshmallows on the freezer!
I’m not a US resident but my sister is and I’m visiting in a few months so id give it to her if I was lucky enough to win!

  53. Ice cream is my favorite.. Vanilla based is a must.
But you would never see me turn down a frozen treat.
Love me some mint and vanilla right now. Very interesting flavors. Looks like pure fun.

  54. I wish wish wish I’m living there so i can get some. Sob. Oh well. Those amazing flavours are going to make someone so happy.

  77. I don’t have a Jeni’s anywhere near me, and those flavors sound fabulous! I am an ice cream girl, and so far Cold Stone Creamery’s Cake Batter ice cream with crushed Butterfingers is my favorite. Would sure love to try ALL of those 17 Jeni’s flavors, though!

  78. I love it all! Rocky Road ice cream, watermelon sorbetto and Ben and Jerry’s raspberry and chocolate flavored Greek frozen yogurt. It’s all so delicious! I may have a cold treats problem…

  79. I’m a little too much about Ice Cream, which is why I’ve had to give up my skinny jeans, for now…

  80. Oh my !! I debated on even entering this….you see I have been working to get back to my ideal wait BUT I am learning a new life style that allows a treat every now and then and OHHHHHH what a treat this would be. I LOVE ice cream!

  81. Wow! Looks like an awesome place, I wish there was one in Sacramento :)

I’m a fan of all 3 types of frozen treats, but if I had to put them in order of favorites: 1. Sorbet 2. Ice Cream 3. Yogurt.

Chocolate chip and health bar are my go to flavors

  86. I am usually an ice cream fan with one exception: an orange sorbet with dark chocolate shavings and Cointreau.
It’s called Tango and made by Mora Iced Cream in Bainbridge Island, WA. Delish!

  87. This place looks absolutely adorable! Brilliant design, fabulous ice cream, and a fantastic business. Well done all around!

  88. My fave frozen treat is almond joy ice cream. :)

  91. I’m all about ice cream! There’s an insane amount of variety out there and I wish I could try it all! My favorite frozen treat would have to be anything that tastes like cheesecake!

  92. I love ice cream! Mint chocolate ice cream is my weakness and anything dark chocolate. Mmmm. Now I want ice cream!

  102. I love ice cream, but there is 1 thing that I get cravings for and that is “cold fruity stuff”! So I’m a sorbet girl at heart!

  103. Ice cream is my favorite dessert, period. Here in L.A. we have a local chain at the Rite Aid drug stores called “Thrifty’s,” which makes chocolate malted crunch (basically chocolate ice cream with small malted bits mixed in). I could eat that every day. I just found out about a gelato place in Santa Monica that has 100s of flavors. I could live there, if I could. :-)

But I digress. Ice cream sundae with all the trimmings. Winner!

I’ve been lucky enough to be at a jenis and I’m sad to say I could do with some of that influenza sorbet right about now!

I love pairing the salty caramel with either the dark chocolate or the black coffee – or having all three together :D

  118. Oh goodness, all of them are so delicious, but I’d have to go with ice cream! Especially blueberry cheesecake from another local ice creamery in Ohio. Wish I could visit Ohio again soon to explore this delightful looking place!

  119. We all scream for ice cream! :)

  120. I am all about the ice cream. Frozen milk treats full of sugar and delicious flavors, yes give me more! I can’t believe that I didn’t know I could get Jeni’s locally here in Austin,TX. According to the website a store not 5 miles from my home stocks it by the pint. Seeing as how it’s almost 80 here this week I think we’ll just have to go check that out. I could use a tasty frozen treat.

  121. I love ice cream! As long as it has chocolate in it!

  145. I used to love ice cream, but it did not love me back too well due to allergies…lol, but my aunt, who has a seizure disorder and lives with us LOVES ice cream, especially anything with chocolate and peaches. It helps her to relax and have less of an issue with having her seizures. So I would love to create room in our freezer here in Missouri if we could win Jeni’s Ice Cream. Thanks for the contest!!

  146. I’m all about gelato! But a deliciously rich ice cream comes close!

  147. Ice cream of course, although I do love frozen yogurt and sorbet, but nothing is better than a warm brownie, yummy ice cream and hot fudge! And maybe some whipped cream and a cherry ;)

  151. I’ve jumped on the frozen yogurt bandwagon! That tart vanilla flavor gets me every time.

  152. when i think about ice cream, i always think about grasshopper pie: lime sherbet and vanilla ice cream layered over a crust made from nabisco famous chocolate wafer crumbs. tastes like summer when i was 8.

  153. I’m a fan of both ice cream AND frozen yogurt, and I actually don’t think I’ve ever tried sorbet (yipes!). I’m a sucker for the little additions to a cold treat like caramel, cookie dough, or Reese’s Cups!

  190. LOVE ice cream. We ate a lot of it when I was growing up and at 16 I had my own little “ice cream fountain” in the corner of my parents’ business! I think I saw Jeni’s ice cream on the Today show today…the Influenza Sorbet.

  197. Ice creeeeam! Definitely.

And my favorite frozen treat is fruit parfait at a local ice cream shop. Super tall cup, layers of vanilla ice cream with pineapple, strawberries, hot chocolate sauce, peanuts, whipped cream, and a cherry on top!

  198. I’m all about the ice cream. (Unless, of course, there is a soft serve yogurt place nearby that sells tart flavors. Oh my yum!) Our current favorite is chocolate with peanut butter from a more local brand. Delish!

  199. This giveaway sounds magical! For me, it’s a total toss up between froyo and ice cream– love them both! Oh and gelato too. My favorite flavor is probably caramel pecan praline.
