I just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow is the big day.
In the morning my mom and I are going into surgery.
It’s finally here and we are both ready.
I can’t wait to be through with dialysis. Actually, if all goes as planned, tonight was my last treatment. Giant Yay! Sprinkled with cartwheels! Yay. Yay. Yay.
I am sorry that these past several weeks have been boring around here. But, I’m excited just thinking about feeling good again, so it won’t be boring for too much longer.
Thank you all for your concern, for your wonderful emails, for your patience, and your prayers. I really appreciate all of it.

UPDATE: The surgery went fantastic. The doctors couldn’t be happier with how we are both doing. My mom’s kidney started working right away which they don’t always do. Sometimes it takes a little while for everything to kick in. It was doing so well that I was also able to have the dialysis catheter removed before I came home. Thank goodness. I couldn’t wait to have that thing taken out. I’m home now recovering and so is my mom. She’s doing great, too. We are just both very sore. You know, when I had my first kidney transplant almost 19 years ago, I stayed in the hospital for almost two weeks. But this time I came home after four days. Just amazing. It’s really good to be home. Anyway, I just wanted to give you a quick update. Thank you all again for leaving such wonderful messages. We’ve both enjoyed reading them and it’s made the last few days even brighter.

Congratulations on your transplant. My brother in law has been through 2, his first one being from my father in law and the second one being from a cadaver. He had that one several years ago (around 15 years ago) and is doing well still. I pray that you will have the same success.

Hope the surgeries went well. I donated a kidney to my brother almost a year ago. It was his second. One of our other brothers donated the first 22 years ago. It’s an amazing process. Happy recovery to you both!

I’m a new fan; I just recently stumbled across your book in Barnes and Noble while my husband was checking out bread making books, and came to check out your website. I actually got chills when I read this post because my husband is currently waiting for his second kidney transplant, and his sister is coming out next week for donor testing. I don’t really know if I believe in fate, or destiny, or anything really, but something made me feel like I was supposed to read your story. I may sound like a crazy loon right now, and if so, I’m sorry, but I just wanted to say that I wish you the best of luck, and I hope both your and your mom’ surgeries went smoothly and that you both have a very quick recovery. I know how hard dialysis and kidney failure is, but I’ve also seen how wonderful life is after transplant. (My husband’s first was 16 years ago, and he’s barely 30) I also wanted to thank you for sharing your story, and for giving me hope and making the light at the end of the tunnel a little brighter.

Awesome news. You two will be rock stars I am certain. I gave one of my kidneys to my brother seven years ago. It was the most rewarding day of my life. To see his color change from a pasty grey, to a pink was such a relief. We are both still doing great. Godspeed on your journey back to normal.
